Influence of Content Knowledge on Pedagogical Content Knowledge: The case of teaching photosynthesis and plant growth

2009

International audience; Abstract The aim of the research was to investigate the effect of the amount and quality of content knowledge on pedagogical content knowledge (PCK). The biological content photosynthesis and plant growth was used as an example. The research sample consisted of 10 primary and 10 secondary (biology) teacher students. Questionnaires, lesson preparation task and an interview were used to collect data. Primary student teachers' were not aware of students' conceptual difficulties and had problems in choosing the most important content. Neither of the groups had knowledge on suitable experiments and demonstrations, which indicates that PCK should be explicitly taught. The …

Morfologia, cariologia e anatomia fogliare nel genere Dittrichia Greuter (Asteraceae)

2004

All five species of the genus Dittrichia were examined as regards their morphology, karyology and anatomy particularly referred to the leaf istology and micromorphology. Two different analytical keys were elaborated basing on morphological features and leaf anatomy and micromorphology characters.

Isolation and purification of plasmids from Bacteroides fragilis using rubidium trichloroacetate density gradient centrifugation.

1983

A rapid and easy final purification method is described for the isolation of plasmids from B. fragilis. Using RbTCA density gradient centrifugation in an airfuge ultracentrifuge ccc plasmid DNA can be separated from RNA, residual chromosomal DNA, linear and oc plasmid DNA. Pure ccc plasmid DNA is obtained from cultures of between 1 ml and 2 l in less than one day.

Identification of a plasminogen-binding motif in PAM, a bacterial surface protein.

1995

Surface-associated plasmin(ogen) may contribute to the invasive properties of various cells. Analysis of plasmin(ogen)-binding surface proteins is therefore of interest. The N-terminal variable regions of M-like (ML) proteins from five different group A streptococcal serotypes (33, 41, 52, 53 and 56) exhibiting the plasminogen-binding phenotype were cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. The recombinant proteins all bound plasminogen with high affinity. The binding involved the kringle domains of plasminogen and was blocked by a lysine analogue, 6-aminohexanoic acid, indicating that lysine residues in the M-like proteins participate in the interaction. Sequence analysis revealed that the…

Regularity properties for quasiminimizers of a $(p,q)$-Dirichlet integral

2021

Using a variational approach we study interior regularity for quasiminimizers of a $(p,q)$-Dirichlet integral, as well as regularity results up to the boundary, in the setting of a metric space equipped with a doubling measure and supporting a Poincar\'{e} inequality. For the interior regularity, we use De Giorgi type conditions to show that quasiminimizers are locally H\"{o}lder continuous and they satisfy Harnack inequality, the strong maximum principle, and Liouville's Theorem. Furthermore, we give a pointwise estimate near a boundary point, as well as a sufficient condition for H\"older continuity and a Wiener type regularity condition for continuity up to the boundary. Finally, we cons…

Bioavailability and assessment of heavy metal pollution in sediment cores off the Mejerda River Delta (Gulf of Tunis): How useful is a multiproxy app…

2016

International audience; Three core samples were taken from zones offshore from the Mejerda River Delta (Tunisia) and analyzed formajor and trace elements to assess their relationships with organic matter, monosulfides and carbonates, aswell as for pollution and bioavailability. Chemical speciation,ΣSEM/AVS, the enrichment factor (EF) and thegeo-accumulation index (I-geo) were used. Iron, cadmium, lead and zinc – the most frequently mined metalsin the Mejerda catchment – were found as contaminants in the offshore areas. Estimations of trace elementaccumulation using the EF and the I-geo index show that lead, and to a lesser extent zinc, are the most pollutingmetals off the Mejerda outlet. Ac…
