Binding of RNA Aptamers to Membrane Lipid Rafts: Implications for Exosomal miRNAs Transfer from Cancer to Immune Cells

2020

Intraluminal vesicles (ILVs) are released into the extracellular space as exosomes after the fusion of multivesicular bodies (MVBs) with the plasma membrane. miRNAs are delivered to the raft-like region of MVB by RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). RNA loading into exosomes can be either through direct interaction between RNA and the raft-like region of the MVB membrane, or through interaction between an RBP&ndash

Selection of Membrane RNA Aptamers to Amyloid Beta Peptide: Implications for Exosome-Based Antioxidant Strategies

2019

The distribution of amyloid beta peptide 42 (Aβ42) between model exosomal membranes and a buffer solution was measured. The model membranes contained liquid-ordered regions or phosphatidylserine. Results demonstrated that up to ca. 20% of amyloid peptide, generated in the plasma (or intracellular) membrane as a result of proteolytic cleavage of amyloid precursor proteins by β- and γ-secretases, can stay within the membrane milieu. The selection of RNA aptamers that bind to Aβ42 incorporated into phosphatidylserine-containing liposomal membranes was performed using the selection-amplification (SELEX) method. After eight selection cycles, the pool of RNA aptamers was isol…

Liquid membranes as a sample preparation method in environmental analysis

2014

Because of the complexity of environmental matrices, there is a great need of application efficient sample preparation procedures for environmental analysis. One of such possibilities is using, during sample-pretreatment step, the membrane extraction (ME) methods. They include, for instance, a three-phase extraction system named supported liquid membranes that has been used in recent years many times for isolation and preconcentration of various analytes from complex sample matrices. The examples of application the commonly used types of SLMs, hollow fiber supported liquid membrane and flat sheet supported liquid membrane, are listed and described. Additionally, the area of membrane extract…

Effects of Lithium Source and Content on the Properties of Li-Rich Layered Oxide Cathode Materials

2023

Lithium-rich layered oxide (LLO) are considered high-capacity cathode materials for next-generation lithium-ion batteries. In this study, LLO cathode materials were synthesized via the hydroxide coprecipitation method followed by a two-step lithiation process using different lithium contents and lithium sources. The effects of lithium content and lithium source on structure and electrochemical performance were investigated. This study demonstrated the clear impact of Li/TM ratio on electrochemical performance. Lower Li/TM ratio reduced the irreversible capacity loss in the first cycle and provided better cycling stability among all samples. The best results exhibited an initial discharge ca…

Data from: Platyzoan paraphyly based on phylogenomic data supports a non-coelomate ancestry of Spiralia

2015

Based on molecular data three major clades have been recognized within Bilateria: Deuterostomia, Ecdysozoa and Spiralia. Within Spiralia, small-sized and simply organized animals such as flatworms, gastrotrichs and gnathostomulids have recently been grouped together as Platyzoa. However, the representation of putative platyzoans was low in the respective molecular phylogenetic studies, in terms of both, taxon number and sequence data. Furthermore, increased substitution rates in platyzoan taxa raised the possibility that monophyletic Platyzoa represents an artefact due to long-branch attraction. In order to overcome such problems, we employed a phylogenomic approach, thereby substantially i…

Uncertainty management in the measurements of low frequency magnetic fields

2014

The paper deals with low-frequency magnetic field measurements carried out by using a broadband and isotropic instrument. These measurements are characterized by very high uncertainty values, which imply a high risk of wrong decisions when there is the need to establish if a site complies or does not comply with specified emission limits. To reduce this risk, we decided to perform the so called “uncertainty management” that is the discipline of optimizing the cost of a measurement versus the uncertainty target. The task is achieved by using the PUMA method that is an iterative technique originally conceived for geometrical and mechanical measurements. The approach is completely based on the…

UNCERTAINTY EVALUATION IN THE LOW-FREQUENCY MAGNETIC FIELD MEASUREMENTS WITH REGARD TO EXPOSURE OF HUMAN BEINGS

2010

The paper deals with low-frequency magnetic field measurements, with regard to exposure of human beings, carried out by using a broadband and isotropic instrument. These measurements are characterized by a very high uncertainty values if compared with the ones usually related to other electrical measurements. These large uncertainty values imply a high risk of wrong decision when there is the need to establish if a site complies or does not comply with a specified emission limits. A reduction of the uncertainty values implies a reduction of the risk. With this aim, in the paper we propose an approach which, in case of fields generated by electric power systems (50 or 60 Hz), allows an effec…

Solvability of a first order system in three-dimensional non-smooth domains

1985

summary:A system of first order partial differential equations is studied which is defined by the divergence and rotation operators in a bounded nonsmooth domain $\Omega\subset \bold R^3$. On the boundary $\delta\Omega$, the vanishing normal component is prescribed. A variational formulation is given and its solvability is investigated.
