We investigated the diagnostic value of prenatal MR imaging for brain malformations within 25 weeks of gestational age. Goitrous congenital hypothyroidism in a twin pregnancy causing respiratory obstruction at birth: Implications for management

We report a twin pregnancy complicated by fetal goitrous hypothyroidism secondary to dyshormonogenesis caused by thyroglobulin deficiency. Antenatal treatment with intra-amniotic thyroxine was considered but not performed, given the late gestational age at diagnosis and the multiple nature of the pregnancy. Both twins developed airway obstruction at delivery, requiring intubation and ventilation. We review the literature and describe the practical issues relating to the antenatal assessment and perinatal management of fetal goitre.

Background: We conducted the present study to evaluate the impact of stressful events on the onset of depressive disorders in a Spanish clinical sample, compared to a control group matched for age, sex, civil status and social class. We compared our results with those of other studies carried out with samples that were both clinically and culturally similar to ours. Herpes Zoster (HZ) is a viral disease with painful neuro-dermatologic manifestations. Incidence increases with age. In Italy, the estimated incidence is 6.3 cases/1000 person/year; hospital admissions are less than 2%, 69% in patients aged over 65 years. The most frequent complication of HZ is Post-Herpetic Neuralgia (PHN) characterized by metameric pain, allodynia, and hyperalgesia. In Italy 20.6% and 9.2% of HZ patients experience PHN after 3 and 6 months, respectively. Available antiviral and analgesic treatments are relatively unsatisfactory in reducing pain and length of the disease. Nonketotic hyperglycinemia (NKH) is an autosomal recessive inborn error in the glycine degradation pathway resulting in severe neurological impairment with intractable seizures and brain damage in the majority of the affected patients.
