European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Questionnaire-Head and Neck Module, updated version: Preliminary psychomet…
2015
Background We provided preliminary psychometric data for the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Quality of Life Questionnaire–Head and Neck Module, updated version (QLQ-H&N43) from a group of Serbian laryngectomized patients. Methods The study included 170 subjects. The QLQ-H&N43 is a 43-item questionnaire, with 12 multi-item scales and 7 single-item symptom scales. All subjects also completed the Quality of Life Questionnaire-Core 30-questions (QLQ-C30). Results Good internal consistency (Cronbach's α of above 0.7) was found for 5 of the 7 scales. All QLQ-H&N43 scales correlated negatively as predicted with all QLQ-C30 functioning scales. The correlations wi…
Preliminary study of the Craniofacial Pain and Disability Inventory-11:validation for patients with head and neck cancer
2021
Background Cancer involves numerous physical, psychological and emotional changes and has a negative impact on patients. Although there are a wide variety of questionnaires for general use in patients with cancer, very few are available that assess the pain, disability and craniomandibular functionality of patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) in a more specific manner. The purpose of this study is to present the preliminary behavior of the CF-PDI in its reduced version adapted for patients with HNC. Material and Methods A total of 61 patients with HNC were included in a study to preliminarily analyze the internal consistency of the instrument, the convergent validity and the floor and c…
Psychometric Evaluation of the Eating Disorder Examination Adapted for Children
2013
The Eating Disorder Examination adapted for children (ChEDE) is the child version of the semi-structured gold standard eating disorder interview for adults. This study was a comprehensive test statistic evaluation of the German ChEDE in a large sample of children and adolescents with anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, loss of control eating, overweight and obesity, as well as non-eating-disordered and chronically ill control probands (n = 352). Excellent inter-rater reliability, adequate internal consistency and satisfactory stability of ChEDE indicators were demonstrated. ChEDE indicators discriminated between diverse forms of eating and weight disturbances and normative eating and w…
P-869 - „Two great masqueraders” in a psychiatry clinic - case series of neurosyphilis and neuroborreliosis
2012
Background Neurosyphilis can develop at any stage of syphilis despite of previously recieved treatment, and it can mimic any neuropschychiatric disorder. The psychopathology of neuroborreliosis is less described. Objectives To describe the cases of schizophrenia - like psychosis in patients with these hronic neuroinfections. Methods and materials Retrospective chart review study of five inmates (four with neurosyphilis and one with neuroborreliosis) was performed. Results Psychiatric histories of two females (45 and 49 y.o.) and three males (31, 40, 45 y.o.) are achieved. In four cases they were initially misdiagnosed as paranoid schizophrenia and in one case - as a persistent alcoholic hal…
Medications between psychiatric and addictive disorders
2016
International audience; Introduction : Many epidemiological studies have revealed a frequent co-occurrence of psychiatric and substance use disorders. The term used in the literature to refer to this co-occurrence is dual diagnosis. The high prevalence of dual diagnosis has led physicians to observe the effects of medication prescribed to treat psychiatric disorders on the co-occurring substance use disorder and vice versa. The concept of medications between psychiatric and addictive disorders stems from these clinical observations, alongside which, however, it has developed from the observation that both psychiatric and substance use disorders share common neurobiological pathways and trig…

Bibliometric analysis of leishmaniasis research in Medline (1945-2010)
2012
Background Publications are often used as a measure of success of research work. Leishmaniasis is considered endemic in 98 countries, most of which are developing. This article describes a bibliometric review of the literature on leishmaniasis research indexed in PubMed during a 66-year period. Methods Medline was used via the PubMed online service of the US National Library of Medicine. The search strategy was Leishmania [MeSH] or leishmaniasis [MeSH] from 1 January 1945 until 31 December 2010. Neither language nor document type restrictions were employed. Results A total of 20,780 references were retrieved. The number of publications increased steadily over time, with 3,380 publications f…
SEXUALHORMONE-BINDING GLOBULINE (SHBG) AND FREE TESTOSTERONE (FTE) IN PATIENTS WITH ULLRICH TURNLR SYNDROME(UTS) RECEIVING OXANDROLONE
1993
Our investigation showed that the concentration of SHBG decreased in healthy girls and boys at increased FIE concentrations. It was therefore the aim of the present study to examine the effects of anabolic steroid oxandrolone in SHBG and FTE concentrations in patients with Turner's syndrome. The normal dose to promote growth in patients wilh UTS is 0,1 mg/kg/BW. Our patients received a very low dose of 1,25 mg oxandrolone/doy. We analysed 21 sera of UTS patients. The determination of SHBG concentrations was performed with the IRMA (Famos diagnostics, Oulunsala, Finnland), the concentration of FTE was determined with the RIA (Immunchem.Corporation, Carson, USA). In 7 untreated UIS patients w…

There are few breast-conserving therapies (BCT) for centrally located breast cancer. The present paper describes a BCT for breast cancers in such a location, which permits conservation of the nipple-areola complex (NAC), provided this has not been infiltrated. After histological detection of the breast cancer by punch biopsy, a central segmental mastectomy and an axillary dissection are performed. An immediate reconstruction of the subareolar defect is carried out by means of a local flap technique, thus conserving the NAC.
Pharmacogenetics in Neuroblastoma: What Can Already Be Clinically Implemented and What Is Coming Next?
2021
Pharmacogenetics is one of the cornerstones of Personalized Precision Medicine that needs to be implemented in the routine of our patients’ clinical management in order to tailor their therapies as much as possible, with the aim of maximizing efficacy and minimizing toxicity. This is of great importance, especially in pediatric cancer and even more in complex malignancies such as neuroblastoma, where the rates of therapeutic success are still below those of many other types of tumors. The studies are mainly focused on germline genetic variants and in the present review, state of the art is presented: which are the variants that have a level of evidence high enough to be implemented in the c…
