Description of the limit set of Henstock–Kurzweil integral sums of vector-valued functions

2015

Abstract Let f be a function defined on [ 0 , 1 ] and taking values in a Banach space X . We show that the limit set I HK ( f ) of Henstock–Kurzweil integral sums is non-empty and convex when the function f has an integrable majorant and X is separable. In the same setting we give a complete description of the limit set.

Linear invariants of Riemannian almost product manifolds

1982

Using the decomposition of a certain vector space under the action of the structure group of Riemannian almost product manifolds, A. M. Naveira (9) has found thirty-six distinguished classes of these manifolds. In this article, we prove that this decomposition is irreducible by computing a basis of the space of invariant quadratic forms on such a space.

A Constructive Minimal Integral which Includes Lebesgue Integrable Functions and Derivatives

2000

In this paper we provide a minimal constructive integration process of Riemann type which includes the Lebesgue integral and also integrates the derivatives of differentiable functions. We provide a new solution to the classical problem of recovering a function from its derivative by integration, which, unlike the solution provided by Denjoy, Perron and many others, does not possess the generality which is not needed for this purpose. The descriptive version of the problem was treated by A. M. Bruckner, R. J. Fleissner and J. Foran in [2]. Their approach was based on the trivial observation that for the required minimal integral, a function F is the indefinite integral of f if and only if F'…

On the integration of Riemann-measurable vector-valued functions

2016

We confine our attention to convergence theorems and descriptive relationships within some subclasses of Riemann-measurable vector-valued functions that are based on the various generalizations of the Riemann definition of an integral.

Unit Vector Fields that are Critical Points of the Volume and of the Energy: Characterization and Examples

2007

In the last few years, many works have appeared containing examples and general results on harmonicity and minimality of vector fields in different geometrical situations. This survey will be devoted to describe many of the known examples, as well as the general results from where they are obtained.

Assessment of a high-resolution central scheme for the solution of the relativistic hydrodynamics equations

2004

We assess the suitability of a recent high-resolution central scheme developed by Kurganov & Tadmor (2000) for the solution of the relativistic hydrodynamics equations. The novelty of this approach relies on the absence of Riemann solvers in the solution procedure. The computations we present are performed in one and two spatial dimensions in Minkowski spacetime. Standard numerical experiments such as shock tubes and the relativistic flat-faced step test are performed. As an astrophysical application the article includes two-dimensional simulations of the propagation of relativistic jets using both Cartesian and cylindrical coordinates. The simulations reported clearly show the capabili…

Exponential sums related to Maass forms

2019

We estimate short exponential sums weighted by the Fourier coefficients of a Maass form. This requires working out a certain transformation formula for non-linear exponential sums, which is of independent interest. We also discuss how the results depend on the growth of the Fourier coefficients in question. As a byproduct of these considerations, we can slightly extend the range of validity of a short exponential sum estimate for holomorphic cusp forms. The short estimates allow us to reduce smoothing errors. In particular, we prove an analogue of an approximate functional equation previously proven for holomorphic cusp form coefficients. As an application of these, we remove the logarithm …

Anomalous wave structure in magnetized materials described by non-convex equations of state

2014

Agraïments: Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics (UCLA) 2012 program on "Computational Methods in High Energy Density Plasmas. We analyze the anomalous wave structure appearing in flow dynamics under the influence of magnetic field in materials described by non-ideal equations of state. We consider the system of magnetohydrodynamics equations closed by a general equation of state (EOS) and propose a complete spectral decomposition of the fluxes that allows us to derive an expression of the nonlinearity factor as the mathematical tool to determine the nature of the wave phenomena. We prove that the possible formation of non-classical wave structure is determined by both the thermodynam…

Harmonicity and minimality of oriented distributions

2004

We consider an oriented distribution as a section of the corresponding Grassmann bundle and, by computing the tension of this map for conveniently chosen metrics, we obtain the conditions which the distribution must satisfy in order to be critical for the functionals related to the volume or the energy of the map. We show that the three-dimensional distribution ofS4m+3 tangent to the quaternionic Hopf fibration defines a harmonic map and a minimal immersion and we extend these results to more general situations coming from 3-Sasakian and quaternionic geometry.
