Isotopic, carbon and minor element composition of the Sancerre sediments (Jurassic, Paris Basin)

2017

One of the most elusive aspects of the Toarcian oceanic anoxic event (T-OAE) is the paradox between carbon isotopes that indicate intense global primary productivity and organic carbon burial at a global scale, and the delayed expression of anoxia in Europe. During the earliest Toarcian, no black shales were deposited in the European epicontinental seaways, and most organic carbon enrichment of the sediments postdated the end of the overarching positive trend in the carbon isotopes that characterises the T-OAE. In the present study, we have attempted to establish a sequence stratigraphic framework for Early Toarcian deposits recovered from a core drilled in the Paris Basin using a combinati…

Record of pollen, silt and greyscale stack from the Eifel Laminated Sediment Archive (ELSA)

2005

Investigating the processes that led to the end of the last interglacial period is relevant for understanding how our ongoing interglacial will end, which has been a matter of much debate. A recent ice core from Greenland demonstrates climate cooling from 122,000 years ago driven by orbitally controlled insolation, with glacial inception at 118,000 years ago. Here we present an annually resolved, layer-counted record of varve thickness, quartz grain size and pollen assemblages from a maar lake in the Eifel (Germany), which documents a late Eemian aridity pulse lasting 468 years with dust storms, aridity, bushfire and a decline of thermophilous trees at the time of glacial inception. We inte…

Modified Montmorillonite as Drug Delivery Agent for Enhancing Antibiotic Therapy

2021

The appealing properties of surfactant-intercalated Montmorillonites (Organo-montmorillonite, OMt) were successfully investigated to propose an effective drug delivery system for metronidazole (MNE) antibiotic therapy. This represents a serious pharmaceutical concern due to the adverse drug reactions and the low targeting ability of MNE. The non-ionic surfactant Tween 20 was used to functionalize montmorillonite, thus accomplishing the two-fold objective of enhancing the stability of clay dispersion and better controlling drug uptake and release. The adsorption process was performed under different experimental conditions and investigated by constructing the adsorption isotherms through hig…

Montmorillonite nanodevices for the colon metronidazole delivery.

2013

The adsorption profiles of the antibiotic metronidazole (MNE) into the K10-montmorillonite (MMT-K10) clay and the subsequent release have been investigated as a function of pH and MNE/MMT-K10 ratio, in order to evaluate the potential of the MNE/MMT-K10 hybrids as controlled drug delivery system. The adsorption mechanism has been first elucidated by performing complementary equilibrium and kinetic studies and through the X-ray diffractometry (XRD) characterization of the obtained composite materials. The gathered results allowed us to propose a mechanism consisting of a multi-step pathway involving the neutral and the cationic form of the drug, which interact with different sites of the clay…

Simultaneous Removal and Recovery of Metal Ions and Dyes from Wastewater through Montmorillonite Clay Mineral

2019

The main objective of this work was to evaluate the potential of Montmorillonite nanoclay (Mt), readily and inexpensively available, for the simultaneous adsorption (and removal) of two classes of pollutants: metal ions and dyes. The attention was focused on two &ldquo

Temperature and doping dependence of normal state spectral properties in a two-orbital model for ferropnictides

2016

Using a second-order perturbative Green's functions approach we determined the normal state single-particle spectral function $A(\vec{k},\omega)$ employing a minimal effective model for iron-based superconductors. The microscopic model, used before to study magnetic fluctuations and superconducting properties, includes the two effective tight-binding bands proposed by S.Raghu et al. [Phys. Rev. B 77, 220503 (R) (2008)], and intra- and inter-orbital local electronic correlations, related to the Fe-3d orbitals. Here, we focus on the study of normal state electronic properties, in particular the temperature and doping dependence of the total density of states, $A(\omega)$, and of $A(\vec{k},\o…

Electrospinning of α,β-poly(N-2-hydroxyethyl)-dl-aspartamide-graft-polylactic acid to produce a fibrillar scaffold

2010

Abstract α,β-Poly( N -2-hydroxyethyl)- dl -aspartamide grafted with polylactic acid (PHEA- g -PLA) is a biocompatible and biodegradable amphiphilic copolymer that has been already employed to prepare a drug delivery system. In this study we have prepared for the first time a fibrillar scaffold from PHEA- g -PLA by the electrospinning of a solution of this copolymer in a mixture of N , N -dimethyl formamide (DMF) and acetone (80:20 vol/vol). The average diameter and the morphology of electrospun fibers were detected by scanning electron microscopy. Chemical degradation studies in phosphate buffer solution pH 7.4 have been performed until 15 days in order to obtain a preliminary information a…

The role of prognostic stratification on prescription of anticoagulants in older patients with atrial fibrillation : a multicenter, observational, pr…

2022

Background: Literature suggests that different risks of mortality could influence physicians in prescribing or not anticoagulants in older patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). The Multidimensional Prognostic Index (MPI) can be considered a tool for the detection of multidimensional frailty. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to evaluate whether prescription patterns of oral anticoagulants exist, based on MPI values. Methods: Older hospitalised patients (age >= 65 years) with non-valvular AF were included across 24 European centres. MPI was calculated using validated and standardised tools derived from a comprehensive geriatric assessment. Other functional and clinical information …

Dire le mal, dire du mal

2011

Predictive value of heart failure with reduced versus preserved ejection fraction for outcome in pulmonary embolism

2020

Abstract Aims This study aimed to investigate whether the risk of short‐term mortality is different in pulmonary embolism (PE) patients who have heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) as compared with those with heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF). Methods and results Predictive value of HFrEF or HFpEF for 7‐day (intrahospital) and 30‐day all‐cause mortality was determined in the cohort of 1055 out of 1201 consecutive acute PE patients from the Serbian multicentre PE registry. Patients were classified into either HFrEF or HFpEF group, according to guideline‐proposed criteria. A 7‐day (intrahospital) and 30‐day all‐cause mortality was 18.5% vs. 7.3% vs. 4.5% …
