Risaie e Malaria

2008

Explicit and implicit tasks for assessing hedonic-versus nutrition-based attitudes towards food in French children

2015

Attitudes are important precursors of behaviours. This study aims to compare the food attitudes (i.e., hedonic- and nutrition-based) of children using both an implicit pairing task and an explicit forced-choice categorization task suitable for the cognitive abilities of 5- to 11-year-olds. A dominance of hedonically driven attitudes was expected for all ages in the pairing task, designed to elicit affective and spontaneous answers, whereas a progressive emergence of nutrition-based attitudes was expected in the categorization task, designed to involve deliberate analyses of the costs/benefits of foods. An additional exploratory goal was to evaluate differences in the attitudes of normal and…

Early-blind individuals show impaired performance in wine odor categorization

2018

International audience; Blind individuals display superior sensory abilities in other modalities, yet results remain contradictory regarding their performance on olfactory tasks. Using complex ecological olfactory tasks, we evaluated the impact of blindness on olfactory performance. We tested 12 early-blind individuals (M = 49, SD = 13.09) and 12 sighted controls (M = 49, SD = 14.31) who were all blindfolded. Based solely on the wine odors, participants evaluated 24 pairs of wine and determined if both samples belonged to the same category (red wine, white wine, or rosé wine) or not (odor categorization), and if so, whether they were identical or not (odor differentiation). Then, they had t…

Economic evaluation of a guided and unguided internet-based CBT intervention for major depression: Results from a multicenter, three-armed randomized…

2017

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders and will become one of the leading causes of disability in the world. Internet-based CBT programs for depression have been classified as well established following the American Psychological Association criteria for empirically supported treatments. The aim of this study is to analyze the cost effectiveness at 12-month follow-up of the Internet-based CBT program Smiling is fun with (LITG) and without psychotherapist support (TSG) compared to usual care. The perspective used in our analysis is societal. A sample of 296 depressed patients (mean age of 43.04 years; 76% female; BDI-II mean score = 22.37) from primary care services in four Sp…

Is Ranibizumab effective in stopping the loss of vision for Choroidal Neovascularization in Pathologic Myopia? A Long Term Follow-up Study

2010

Aim To assess the efficacy and safety of ranibizumab in the treatment of choroidal neovascularisation (CNV) caused by pathologic myopia (PM). Design Prospective, multicentre, interventional case series. Methods 40 eyes of 39 consecutive patients with PM and CNV were treated with ‘on demand’ intravitreal injection of ranibizumab 0.5 mg. Final best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) and its change from baseline were the main outcome measures. Changes in optical coherence tomography (OCT) central retinal thickness (CRT) were a secondary outcome. Results Mean age was 53±13 years and mean refractive error –13.5±6.5 D. Median follow-up was 13.3±2 (range 12–18) months. Fifteen eyes (37.5%) had previou…

"In vivo" evaluation of the vascular pattern in oral peri-implant tissues.

2011

Abstract Introduction The vascularisation of the peri-implant tissue represents the key factor in obtaining a successful result in implantology, since an adequate vascular supply allows wound healing and the presence of numerous growth factors that promote osteogenesis. The aim of this study was to analyse “in vivo” the vascular pattern of the peri-implant mucosa in subjects that received implant treatment. Materials and methods In the study 22 subjects were examined, 11 of whom (test group) received dental implants (Straumann Dental Implant System ® ) while 11 were in the control group; the analysis was performed in the peri-implant masticatory mucosa. The evaluation of the microcirculatio…

Education in Sub-Saharan Africa: a comparative analysis

2012

As in most countries worldwide, Sub-Saharan African countries are striving to build their human capital so they can compete for jobs and investments in an increasingly globalized world. In this region, which includes the largest number of countries that have not yet attained universal primary schooling, the ambitions and aspirations of Sub-Saharan African countries and their youth far exceed this basic goal. Over the past 20 years, educational levels have risen sharply across Sub-Saharan Africa. Already hard at work to provide places in primary schools for all children, most countries of the region are also rapidly expanding access to secondary and tertiary levels of education. Alongside th…

Implementation and optimization of the properties of a sandwich structure in biobased materials (fibres and Hemp wood) with an expanded polystyrene m…

2017

Due to the rapidly improving functionality of building materials, and increasingly complicated human resource management issues, the traditional cement-based building materials of the past are becoming less and less desirable. These outdated materials are being replaced by new structures of wall that better optimize choices of materials and their layouts. In this study, we propose a multi-function structure to be the unit of a typical wall (individual house), which can be produced via the use of inexpensive materials and classic manufacturing processes. To achieve this, we chose the renewable agricultural source of the hemp plant (hemp yarns and hemp shive particles), along with recycled exp…

Materials, Techniques, and Conservation of Historic Stained Glass “Grisailles”

2015

A grisaille is a brown-blackish paint applied onto the inner surface of stained glass to draw the contours and details of the figures and to produce the effect of shades and volumes. Grisailles were traditionally made of finely ground oxides of iron but also of copper, zinc, lead, or manganese mixed with a flux such as lead ground glass and a binder and fixed onto the flat glass by firing. The grisailles have typical layer thickness varying between 10 and 100 µm and are formed by a complex mixture of pigment particles, crystalline, and amorphous reaction compounds, aging, and weathering compounds. The high brilliance, collimation, energy selection, and monochromacity of the SR beam are idea…
