In the early 2000’s, a new component of the cost of reproduction was proposed: oxidative stress. Since then the oxidative cost of reproduction hypothesis has, however, received mixed support. Different arguments have been provided to explain this. Among them, the lack of a life history perspective on most experimental tests was suggested. We manipulated the levels of a key intracellular antioxidant (glutathione) in captive zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata) during a short period of early life and subsequently tested the oxidative cost of reproduction. Endometrial decidualization is critical for pregnancy establishment and maintenance. This process promotes endometrial remodeling allowing placental cytotrophoblasts (CTBs) invasion up to an appropriate depth to form the maternal-fetal interface. A shallow CTBs invasion compromises healthy pregnancy and it is associated with the development of severe preeclampsia (sPE). Our working hypothesis is that defective decidualization impairs the adaptation of the maternal “soil” ─the decidua─ to be invaded by CTBs and plays a pivotal role in the etiology of sPE. W artykule podjęto rozważania teoretyczne, ale także analizy empiryczne – na podstawie badań przeprowadzonych wśród dzieci 5–6-letnich i uczniów edukacji wczesno-szkolnej – nad zagadnieniem trudnej sztuki obrazowania ruchu w rysunku. Analiza 1471 dziecięcych rysunków dowiodła, że badane dzieci na ogół tworzą rysunki, które charakteryzuje brak dynamiki (51,3%), czasem jednak podejmują próby zobrazowania ruchu – mniej lub bardziej udane. Mathematics Competence Level: The Contribution of Non-symbolic and Spatial Magnitude Comparison Skills.

Magnitude comparison skills have been related to mathematics competence, although results in this area vary. The current study aimed to describe the performance of 75 children (aged 4-5 years) in two comparison tasks; and examine the strength of the relationship between each of the two tasks and mathematics competence level (MCL). Participants were assessed with the Early Numeracy Test which provides a global MCL score. Magnitude comparison skills were assessed with two tasks: a non-symbolic number comparison task and a spatial comparison task. The present paper deals with the decision of the Italian Constitutional Court to refer a preliminary ruling to the European Court of Justice on the well-known case "Taricco". The latter, in 2015, stated that the Italian law on statute of limitations was inconsistent with the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, having regard to the obligation upon Member States, stemming from art. 325 TFUE. We estimated worldwide trends in mean systolic and mean diastolic blood pressure, and the prevalence of, and number of people with, raised blood pressure, defined as systolic blood pressure of 140 mm Hg or higher or diastolic blood pressure of 90 mm Hg or higher.
