Theory for the control of dark rays by means of discrete symmetry diffractive elements

2013

We present an analytical theory that describes the disintegration of a highly charged phase singularity by the presence of a thin discrete symmetry diffractive element, i.e., an optical diffractive element possessing rotational symmetry of finite order. The process is described in terms of dark rays, defined as the trajectories where there is no light, i.e., those for which the complex optical field vanishes. We provide explicit analytical expressions for the equations that describe the dark ray trajectories. We show that dark rays follow straight line trajectories asymptotically, like ordinary rays, but with properties which differ in essential features with respect to their bright counter…

Coherent population oscillations with nitrogen-vacancy color centers in diamond

2015

We present results of our research on two-field (two-frequency) microwave spectroscopy in nitrogen-vacancy (NV-) color centers in a diamond. Both fields are tuned to transitions between the spin sublevels of the NV- ensemble in the 3A2 ground state (one field has a fixed frequency while the second one is scanned). Particular attention is focused on the case where two microwaves fields drive the same transition between two NV- ground state sublevels (ms=0 -> ms=+1). In this case, the observed spectra exhibit a complex narrow structure composed of three Lorentzian resonances positioned at the pump-field frequency. The resonance widths and amplitudes depend on the lifetimes of the levels in…

Observation of an Intense Quasicontinuum of Superdeformed Rotational Transitions inEu143

1996

Quasicontinuum spectra in coincidence with transitions belonging to the different potential wells of {sup 143}Eu are studied with an increasing number of coincidence folds. An intense bump of rotationally correlated transitions is observed to develop in the high spin region. Fold distributions, angular anisotropies, moment of inertia determinations, and lower limits of lifetimes as a function of the rotational frequency show that the bump originates from highly collective rotationally damped {ital E}2 transitions generated by superdeformed states. {copyright} {ital 1996 The American Physical Society.}

Rare isotopic species of hydrogen sulfide: the rotational spectrum of H236S

2014

The rotational spectrum of the 36 S-bearing isotopologue of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) has been investigated for the first time in the 167 GHz−1.6 THz frequency range, thus providing an accurate and reliable set of spectroscopic parameters. The experimental investigation was backed up by state-of-the-art quantum-chemical calculations, which also allowed us to demonstrate the incorrectness of the previously reported spectroscopic constants. The present results are of suitable accuracy to attempt the astrophysical detection of the isotopic species under consideration. Finally, reliable predictions for the spectroscopic constants of other rare isotopologues of H2S, namely the mono- and bi-deuterat…

Organization of Quantum Bifurcations: Crossover of Rovibrational Bands in Spherical Top Molecules

1989

Qualitative changes in the rotational structure of a finite particle quantum system are studied. The crossover phenomenon is explained from the point of view of consecutive quantum bifurcations. The generic organization of bifurcations is related to the stratification of the space of dynamical variables imposed by the invariance group of the Hamiltonian.

The ground state rotational spectrum of SO2F2

2003

Abstract The analysis of the ground state rotational spectrum of SO 2 F 2 [K. Sarka, J. Demaison, L. Margules, I. Merke, N. Heineking, H. Burger, H. Ruland, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 200 (2000) 55] has been performed with the Watson’s Hamiltonian up to sextic terms but shows some limits due to the A and S reductions. Since SO 2 F 2 is a quasi-spherical top, it can also be regarded as derived from an hypothetical XY 4 molecule. Thus we have developed a new tensorial formalism in the O (3)⊃ T d ⊃ C 2 v group chain (M. Rotger, V. Boudon, M. Loete, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 216 (2002) 297]. We test it on the ground state of this molecule using the same experimental data (10 GHz–1 THz region, J up to 99). Bot…

Rotational Three-Body Resonances: A New Adiabatic Approach

2001

In the standard adiabatic approach the motion of the fast, light particle (electron) is treated so as to produce an effective potential that governs the motion of the heavy particles (nuclei). The rotational degrees of freedom are then taken into account by adding the centrifugal J(J + 1)-term to the channel potentials and introducing rotational (Coriolis) couplings into conventional close-coupling calculations. Of course, a perturbative treatment of the rotational motion is justified only provided the rotational energy is sufficiently small. If, however, the rotation is as energetic as the motion of the fast particle, both motions should be treated on the same footing in order to produce s…

Cluster rotational bands in 11B

2016

Differential cross-sections of 11B+α inelastic scattering at E(α) = 65 MeV leading to most of the known 11B states at excitation energies up to 14 MeV were measured [1]. The data analysis was done using Modified diffraction model (MDM) [2] allowing determining radii of excited states. Radii of the states with excitation energies less than ∼ 7 MeV coincide with the radius of the ground state with an accuracy not less than 0.1 - 0.15 fm. This result is consistent with traditional view on shell structure of low-lying states in 11B. Most of the observed high-energy excited states are distributed among four rotational bands. Moments of inertia of band states are close to the moment of inertia of…

Relaxation of self-entangled many-arm star polymers

1989

We present a description of the relaxation of star polymers based on the conformational scaling properties predicted by Daoud and Cotton and confirmed in our recent simulations. We identify three typical relaxation mechanisms. The first describes elastic deformation of the overall shape. Its relaxation time is nearly independent off. A second type of relaxation occurs via rotational diffusion. We predict that the relaxation time should scale with Nwlfz-v where Y is the correlation length exponent. A third relaxation process is the disentanglement of two or more arms. Here the longest relaxation time should increase exponentially with f llz. We measure various relaxation processes by molecul…

Vibrational and rotational collisional relaxation in CO2–Ar and CO2–He mixtures studied by stimulated Raman-infrared double resonance

1999

0021-9606; The collisional relaxation among vibrational levels of the Fermi dyad of CO2 mixed with Ar and He (10% CO2, 90% rare gas) has been studied at room temperature with a double resonance experiment. Stimulated Raman effect from the ground state achieved the pumping process with a Nd:YAG laser and a pulse amplified dye laser. After pumping the v(1) or 2v(2)(Sigma(+)g) level, a cw CO2 laser was used to probe either the depopulation rates of the pumped levels (vibrationally or rotationally resolved) or the energy transfer rates to neighboring states. The vibrational energy relaxation has been studied from experimental depopulation of v(1) and population of 2v(2) levels through a five-le…
