Dialogue sur le handicap : réciprocité et altérité
2017
This dialogue is not one between a lecturer in philosophy (Pierre Ancet) questioning a person in a situation of physical dependency (Marcel Nuss), but a dialogue between two full-fledged authors. In this exchange the organic deficiency constitutes only the specific character of an individual’s experience, which is to be described without making it a pathology. Disability is considered in its organic, psychological and social dimension, as an incapacitating constraint, but also as a potential vector to discover nonstandard capacities. Among these capacities, the authors stress the consciousness of time and of the body, particularly unexpected as this consciousness is examined by an entirely …
Oficery pol’skoj i litovskoj armii v 1717-1733 gg
2017
One of the elements of the process of modernization of the two armies of the Poland in the second and third decade of the eighteenth century was an attempt to improve the quality of the officers' staff. However, it took place only in the foreign part of the crown. In the years 1717-1724, its corps of officers was filled by a large group, over 100 officers, who possessed some professional experience of military service in the armies of Western Europe, primarily in Saxony. This undoubtedly contributed to the loyalty of this officer corps to the king, but did not lead to the strengthening of the military capabilities of the Polish army.
Cytoprotective effect of NMDA receptor antagonists on prion protein (PrionSc)-induced toxicity in rat cortical cell cultures
1993
Rat cortical cells were incubated with the Scrapie prion protein, PrionSc. At concentrations of 3 ng/ml of PrionSc and higher, the viability of the cells decreased significantly after a 12-h incubation period. Simultaneously, the degree of DNA fragmentation increased. In control experiments with antibodies against PrionSc, PrionSc lost its deleterious effect on neurons. PrionSc did not affect the viability of astrocytes. Drugs known to block NMDA receptor channels, such as memantine (1-amino-3,5-dimethyl-adamantane) (Mem), its analogue 1-N-methylamino-3,5-dimethyl-adamantane as well as (+)-5-methyl-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5,10-imine maleate (MK-801) prevented the effect of …
Facebook’s Emotional Contagion Experiment as a Challenge to Research Ethics
2016
This article analyzes the ethical discussion focusing on the Facebook emotional contagion experiment published by the <em>Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences</em> in 2014. The massive-scale experiment manipulated the News Feeds of a large amount of Facebook users and was successful in proving that emotional contagion happens also in online environments. However, the experiment caused ethical concerns within and outside academia mainly for two intertwined reasons, the first revolving around the idea of research as manipulation, and the second focusing on the problematic definition of informed consent. The article concurs with recent research that the era of social med…
Interactions entre la beta-lactoglobuline et les arômes : impact au niveau moléculaire
2008
Interactions between β-lactoglobulin (BLG) and aroma compounds were investigated by complementary techniques for a better knowledge of binding mechanisms between proteins and aroma compounds at a molecular scale. Two binding sites have been defined for the monomeric BLG, one internal site within the central calyx, and one external site between the calyx and the α helix. In a first step, a relation between the ligand structure and its binding behaviour was established from the study of impact of a wide range of aroma compounds on the structure of native BLG. We evidenced at least two binding behaviours as a function of the chemical class, the hydrophobicity, or the structure of the ligands. …
Materiały sejmikowe w spuściźnie po Ludwiku Gruno, księciu Hessen-Homburg w archiwum Muzeum Artylerii, Wojsk Inżynieryjnych i Łączności w Sankt Peter…

The article discusses source materials for history o f Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Dietines, found in archival legacy o f Ludwig Gruno, Prince o f Hesse-Homburg. The documents are part o f field chancellery o f the prince, currently preserved in the Military-Historical Museum of Engineer and Signal Corps in St. Petersburg among over a thousand of letters, documents and files illustrating his achievements as commander o f Russian armies in the Caucasus and Poland in 1732-1736. The documents pertain mostly to tsarist army exacting war tribute in form o f food and feed in South- Eastern voivodeships from autumn 1734 to 1736. It was a significant burden to noblemen in Ukrainę, Podolia, Volhy…
Evaluation of the genotoxic and cytochrome P450 monooxygenase‐inhibitory potential of dicuran on procaryotic and eucaryotic test systems
2000
The effect of the herbicide Dicuran 500 FL (formulated product) on the phenotypical and genotypical changes in procaryotic and eucaryotic organisms was investigated using short-term tests for detecting genotoxins. Since pesticides discharged in the water environment can modulate the mixed-function monooxygenases (MFO) detoxification system of water organisms, the in vivo and in vitro effects of Dicuran on hepatic cytochrome P450 (cyt P450) monooxygenase activities were also examined in juvenile carp (Cyprinus carpio L.). By measuring the activities of MFO in experimental carp exposed to Dicuran an attempt was made to establish whether Dicuran could be bioactivated by MFO into ultimate mutag…

A study of the pattern of digestive enzimes in Diplodus puntazzo (Cetti, 1777) (Osteychthyes, Sparidae): evidence for the definition of nutritional p…
2005
The digestive enzymes (proteases, carbohydrases and lipases) present along the alimentary tract of juveniles and adults of Diplodus puntazzo were studied. The data obtained showed a different distribution of the enzymatic activities in the different parts of the alimentary tract. Levels of enzymatic activity in the adults were higher than those measured in juveniles, suggesting that adults have a greater ability to digest larger pieces of food. The enzymatic pattern of D. puntazzo justifies its omnivorous habit and suggests an high potential for digesting vegetable polysaccharides. The results of this study suggest the need to adapt the diet to the digestive potential of this new farming sp…
Mixed Function Oxidase Activity and Organochlorine Levels in Farmed Sharpsnout Seabream (Diplodus puntazzo) from Two Intensive Aquaculture Facilities
2004
Mixed function oxidase (MFO) activities and organochlorine levels were investigated in liver of farmed sharpsnout seabream bred in two intensive facilities, a sea farm and a land-based farm. The aim of this study is to investigate how different facility locations and breeding conditions might affect fish metabolic capabilities and accumulation of toxic chemicals in farmed sharpsnout seabream. The differences between breeding two or more fish species in the same cage or tank known as polyculture, and monoculture (1 species) were also investigated. The results showed that both facility location (sea and land) as well as breeding systems (polyculture and monoculture) might be responsible for t…
