Tectogonotoechia rivasi n. sp. A new lower Pragian Celtiberian (Spain) Ancystrorhynchoidea rhynchonellid brachiopod

A new lower Pragian Ancystrorhynchoidea rhynchonellid, Tectogonotoechia rivasi n. sp. of the Celtiberian region (Eastern Iberian Chain, EIC, and Eastern Guadarrama, EG) is described and figured. The growth of the new species, from the last neanic stage to the senescent one is specially underlined. T. rivasi n. sp. is characterized as the other species of the genus by the occurrence of a pseudoseptum and a pseudoseptalium in the dorsal interior, with a fine connectivum forming a roofed over structure covering most part of the latter. Mucocele of the dorsal surface of the tongue : a case report

Mucoceles represent one of the most common lesions of the oral cavity, developing as a result of saliva accumulation. The most frequent affected area is the lower lip, followed by floor of mouth, ventral tongue and buccal mucosa. Despite numerous reports of mucoceles originating on the ventral surface of the tongue, only scarce cases of such a lesion identified on the dorsal tongue surface have been described. Abstract The genus Xenocylapidius Gorczyca, 1997 is revised. Five new species: Xenocylapidius acutipennis sp. n., Xenocylapidius ater sp. n., Xenocylapidius bimaculatus sp. n., Xenocylapidius gemellus sp. n., and Xenocylapidius rolandi sp. n. are described from Australia and New Caledonia. Illustrations of the male genitalia, color photographs of dorsal and lateral views of the adults of all species, and key to species of the genus Xenocylapidius are provided.

Ultraviolet reflection and female mate choice in the pied flycatcher, Ficedula hypoleuca

In pied flycatchers females seem to prefer male territory quality rather than male characteristics, and the results of female mate choice experiments are divergent. In this outdoor aviary study, we examined how altering the ultraviolet reflection of males affects female mate choice behaviour. We chose pairs of males with similar human-visible dorsal colour and morphological traits. We then reduced the proportional ultraviolet reflectance in one male with sunscreen chemicals. The other male was treated with a chemical that slightly increased the ultraviolet reflectance of the plumage. Osteocondroma solitario de la escápula: localización poco habitual para un tumor frecuente

Osteochondroma is a benign bone tumor that usually affects children and young adults. It is typically located in the metaphysis of long bones around the knee, although it could also affect flat bones like scapula. We report the case of a 11-year-old child with one year of evolution painful tumor at the dorsal surface of the scapula. He was diagnosed with osteochondroma of the scapula, uncommon location for this tumor. Due to the persistence of the symptomatology surgical excision was performed.

Knowledge of conodont element function is based largely on analysis of morphologically similar P-1 elements of few comparatively closely related species known from abundant articulated remains. Diversity of large ornithopod dinosaurs in the upper Hauterivian-lower Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) of Teruel (Spain): a morphometric approach

We report some large ornithopod vertebrae from two upper Hauterivian-lower Barremian (Lower Cretaceous) localities in El Castellar (Maestrazgo Basin, Teruel,Spain).These fossils have been studied systematically as well as morphometrically using a multivariate analysis in order to analyse the diversity of the sample. In fact, principal component analysis has been demonstrated as a useful tool for establishing affinities in isolated iguanodontian vertebrae, at least when size effect is not removed from the analysed dataset. Abstract Neurofibromas are considered one of the hallmark signs of neurofibromatosis type 1(NF1). Diffuse plexiform neurofibroma is a congenital NF1-associated tumor, characterized by overgrowth and interference with function of the affected area. To study both short- and long-term adaptation mechanisms activated by rabbits which were separated from their mothers (DLS) for 48 h between postnatal days 9 and 11, we examined plasma corticosterone concentrations before, during, and after DLS as well as the expression of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) in the hippocampus and the adrenal axis responses to a mild stress stimuli or exogenous ACTH injection.
