Improving Classification of Tweets Using Linguistic Information from a Large External Corpus
2016
The bag of words representation of documents is often unsatisfactory as it ignores relationships between important terms that do not co-occur literally. Improvements might be achieved by expanding the vocabulary with other relevant word, like synonyms.
Living on the Edge: Settlement Patterns by the Symbiotic Barnacle Xenobalanus globicipitis on Small Cetaceans
2015
The highly specialized coronulid barnacle Xenobalanus globicipitis attaches exclusively on cetaceans worldwide, but little is known about the factors that drive the microhabitat patterns on its hosts. We investigate this issue based on data on occurrence, abundance, distribution, orientation, and size of X. globicipitis collected from 242 striped dolphins (Stenella coeruleoalba) that were stranded along the Mediterranean coast of Spain. Barnacles exclusively infested the fins, particularly along the trailing edge. Occurrence, abundance, and density of X. globicipitis were significantly higher, and barnacles were significantly larger, on the caudal fin than on the flippers and dorsal fin. Ba…
Context DataModel Framework: semantic facilities management
2008
Facility management is the practice of coordinating the physical workplace with the people and work of the organisation. It integrates the principles of business administration, architecture and the behavioural and engineering sciences. Software dedicated to facility management are usually limited to spreadsheet software. With the development of the Industry Foundation Class (IFC; a new object-oriented standard to model buildings) and web-based networks, a new generation of methods and tools dedicated to facility management are required. To deal with these requirements, we have developed a framework based on Semantic Web technologies: RDF, Ontology Web Language (OWL), Semantic Web Rule Lang…
Using association rules to assess purchase probability in online stores
2016
The paper addresses the problem of e-customer behavior characterization based on Web server log data. We describe user sessions with the number of session features and aim to identify the features indicating a high probability of making a purchase for two customer groups: traditional customers and innovative customers. We discuss our approach aimed at assessing a purchase probability in a user session depending on categories of viewed products and session features. We apply association rule mining to real online bookstore data. The results show differences in factors indicating a high purchase probability in session for both customer types. The discovered association rules allow us to formu…
CN2-R: Faster CN2 with randomly generated complexes
2011
Among the rule induction algorithms, the classic CN2 is still one of the most popular ones; a great amount of enhancements and improvements to it is to witness this. Despite the growing computing capacities since the algorithm was proposed, one of the main issues is resource demand. The proposed modification, CN2-R, substitutes the star concept of the original algorithm with a technique of randomly generated complexes in order to substantially improve on running times without significant loss in accuracy.
Complete Genome Sequence of the Enterobacter cancerogenus Bacteriophage Enc34
2012
ABSTRACT Enterobacter cancerogenus is widely distributed in nature and is generally recovered from environmental or vegetal sources. In some cases, it has also been associated with human infections. In this study, the complete genomic sequence of virulent E. cancerogenus bacteriophage Enc34 was determined. The Enc34 genome is 60,364 bp in length and contains 80 open reading frames. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a bacteriophage infecting E. cancerogenus .
ACELLULAR PERTUSSIS VACCINE COMPOSED OF GENETICALLY INACTIVATED PERTUSSIS TOXIN: SAFETY AND IMMUNOGENICITY IN 12- TO 24- AND 2-TO 4-MONTH-OLD CHILDREN
1992
To determine whether a nontoxic derivative of pertussis toxin obtained by recombinant DNA technology, PT-9K/129G, is a good candidate for a new pertussis vaccine, we examined the safety and the immunogenicity in children of a vaccine containing 15 micrograms of PT-9K/129G protein and 0.5 mg of aluminum hydroxide per dose. Fifty-three children 12 to 24 months of age and 21 infants aged 2 to 4 months were injected with two and three doses, respectively. The vaccine did not induce significant local or systemic reactions and elicited an increase of antibody titer in more than 98% of the children. The geometric mean of the toxin-neutralizing titers increased after each dose and was 85 units in c…
An Ontology-Based Monitoring System in Vineyards of the Burgundy Region
2019
Given the France's rich wine heritage as well as its pioneering position as the world's second wine producer, the production of high quality wines plays a role of primary importance. The recent development of IOT and efficient big data processing has been shown to provide purposeful issue to permanent monitoring during the entire wine making process. Standing within this trend, we introduce in this paper an intelligent system for vineyards monitoring in the Burgundy region. The main trust of the proposed system relies on the use of the Swrl rules in WineCloud ontology. The design of the ontology is mainly based on information gathered from interviews with wine growers. In addition, sensor d…
Data from: Inter-annual variation and long-term trends in proportions of resident individuals in partially migratory birds
2016
Partial migration – a part of a population migrates and another part stays resident year-round on the breeding site – is probably the most common type of migration in the animal kingdom, yet it has only lately garnered more attention. Theoretical studies indicate that in partially migratory populations, the proportion of resident individuals (PoR) should increase in high latitudes in response to the warming climate, but empirical evidence exists for few species. We provide the first comprehensive overview of the environmental factors affecting PoR and the long-term trends in PoR by studying 27 common partially migratory bird species in Finland. The annual PoR values were calculated by divid…
