NIR tracking assists sports medicine in junior basketball training

2011

We recorded eye movements of eight elite junior basketball players. We hypothesized that a more stable gaze is correlated to a better shot rate. Upon preliminary testing we invited male juniors whose eyes could be reliably tracked in a game situation. To these ends, we used a head-mounted video-based eye tracker. The participants had no record of ocular or other health issues. No significant differences were found between shots made with and without the tracker cap, Paired samples t-test yielded p= .130 for the far and p=.900 > .050 for the middle range shots. The players made 40 shots from common far and middle range locations, 5 and 4 meters respectively for aged 14 years As expected, a st…

Measuring physical activity with activity monitors in patients with heart failure: from literature to practice. A position paper from the Committee o…

2020

The aims of this paper were to provide an overview of available activity monitors used in research in patients with heart failure and to identify the key criteria in the selection of the most appropriate activity monitor for collecting, reporting, and analysing physical activity in heart failure research. This study was conducted in three parts. First, the literature was systematically reviewed to identify physical activity concepts and activity monitors used in heart failure research. Second, an additional scoping literature search for validation of these activity monitors was conducted. Third, the most appropriate criteria in the selection of activity monitors were identified. Nine activi…

Diagnostic potential of the diffusion tensor tractography with fractional anisotropy in the diagnosis and treatment of cervical spondylotic and postt…

2016

Background: Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based methodology widely used for the evaluation of microstructural integrity of the central nervous system (CNS), particularly of brain white matter fibers and bundles. Methods: The most common parameters evaluated in a DTI study are the fractional anisotropy (FA) and mean diffusivity (MD). Combining FA and MD analyses is commonly used in the evaluation of various types of brain pathologies, such as brain tumors, where a combined analysis allows an accurate tumor characterization. Results: Recent studies have shown that FA and MD could be of value in non-oncologic spinal pathology. In this regard, it has been …

Primary ciliary dyskinesia assessment by means of optical flow analysis of phase-contrast microscopy images

2014

Primary ciliary dyskinesia implies cilia with defective or total absence of motility, which may result in sinusitis, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis and male infertility. Diagnosis can be difficult and is based on an abnormal ciliary beat frequency (CBF) and beat pattern. In this paper, we present a method to determine CBF of isolated cells through the analysis of phase-contrast microscopy images, estimating cilia motion by means of an optical flow algorithm. After having analyzed 28 image sequences (14 with a normal beat pattern and 14 with a dyskinetic pattern), the normal group presented a CBF of 5.2 +/- 1.6 Hz, while the dyskinetic patients presented a 1.9 +/- 0.9 Hz CBF. The cutoff …

Match analysis of wheelchair padel players of different functional level

2018

The aim of this study was to quantify the kinematic demands of wheelchair padel and to examine the activity profiles in professional players according to their functional level. Twenty-two elite players classified in functional level groups (from 1 to 4) were video-analysed with a two-dimensional DLT corrected video system across seven matches of a professional tournament. The results showed players covered 729.6 ± 369.9 meters and 238.45 ± 129.45 turns per match during 1128.9 ± 583.04 second of effective playing time at a mean speed of 0.53 ± 0.49 m/s per rally. The WCP players’ functional classification had heavy influence on their activity profiles during matches, with a large associatio…

P776 Stress ecocardiography and speckle tracking analysis in patients with heart failure and preserved ejection fraction

2020

Abstract BACKGROUND Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is characterized by heart failure symptoms despite preserved LV systolic function together with at least one among left ventricle hypertrophy/left atrial enlargement plus diastolic dysfunction (DD) and increased brain natriuretic peptide levels. Rest echocardiography could still be normal despite patients experience HF symptoms. Speckle tracking analysis (STE) analyzes myocardial deformation and is able to identify subtle left ventricular dysfunction. PURPOSE to analyze the added value of stress echocardiography to improve diagnostic accuracy in patients with normal ejection fraction and unexplained dyspnoea by evalu…

Association of Dunbar, May-Thurner and Nutcracker Compression Syndromes in One Patient

2020

Abstract We report a case of Dunbar syndrome, May–Thurner syndrome and Nutcracker syndrome diagnosed in one patient with clinical presentation and imaging findings on Doppler ultrasonography. Dunbar syndrome or truncus coeliacus compression syndrome is an under-diagnosed vascular compression syndrome with a lot of controversy around it because of insufficient differentiation from celiac artery stenosis. May–Thurner syndrome or iliac vein compression syndrome is an anatomically variable condition of venous outflow obstruction caused by extrinsic compression by the right common iliac artery as it crosses the iliac vein anteriorly. In Nutcracker syndrome due to compression the outflow from the…

Orthodontic Treatment and Healthcare Goals: Evaluation of Multibrackets Treatment Results Using PAR Index (Peer Assessment Rating)

2020

Background: The evaluation of orthodontic treatment outcomes using an objective method is important in order to maintain high treatment quality and final healthcare of patients. It allows professionals and university students to raise the level of the therapy. The aim of this study was to assess the orthodontic treatment outcomes in an Italian postgraduate School of Orthodontics using Peer Assessment Rating (PAR) Index. Methods: A sample of 50 patients treated in a postgraduate program was randomly selected. PAR index was used to assess pre-treatment and post-treatment study casts by two different examiners. The influence of different variables such as gender, treatment method, and need for…

1232 Acute myocarditis: prognostic role of speckle tracking echocardiography and cardiac magnetic resonance

2020

Abstract Background Myocarditis is an inflammatory disease of the myocardium predominantly caused by infection with subsequent immunological response. Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) is the currently best imaging modality to confirm a suspected diagnosis of myocarditis. Conventional echocardiography can detect regional or global wall motion abnormalities but it could also be negative. Speckle tracking echocardiography can help to identify subtle systolic dysfunction, in patients with myocardits and apparently negative echocardiogram. Purpose the aim of this study was to identify cardiac imaging parameters predictive of cardiovascular events in patients with acute myocarditis. Methods a pro…
