Biomolecules and nanostructured systems : characterization by Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS)
2014
This work addressed the study of several kinds of nanostructured systems, biomolecules and inorganic thin films, mainly by Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS). The aim was to investigate the structure and the chemical bonds. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was also used to complete the structural characterization of the different samples.Firstly, the study was conducted on molecules of biological interest. The aim was to study the interaction between silver nanoparticles and proteins. With this aim, silver nanoparticles bioconjugated with different proteins (hemoglobin, cytochrome C, BSA and lysozim) were synthesized. SERS results allowed concluding that proteins are chemisorb…
Dissipation of post-pulse laser-induced alignment of CO2through collisions with Ar
2015
In this paper, laser-induced field-free alignment of CO2 in mixtures with Ar is investigated under dissipative conditions (up to 15 bars) at room temperature. The degree of alignment is temporally monitored by a polarization spectroscopy technique, where a weak probe pulse measures the transient birefringence resulting from the alignment. The data are analyzed with a quantum mechanical density matrix formalism using properly J-dependent and M-dependent state-to-state transfer rates, which was previously successfully tested on pure CO2 and CO2–He mixtures. The same consistency is obtained between experiments and calculations, in particular the decay times of both the transient revivals and t…
High-resolution Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and analysis of the ν3 fundamental band of P4
1999
Abstract We present the first high-resolution infrared absorption study of the ν 3 fundamental of white phosphorus, P 4 . This spectrum has been analyzed using the STDS (Spherical Top Data System) software. The band center lies at 466.286 cm −1 . With the approximation ( Bζ ) 3 =− B 0 /2, we found that the ground-state bond length is r 0 =219.58 pm. This value is consistent with that of ab initio studies reported previously but significantly different from a value obtained from a Raman study.
Lattice dynamics of wurtzite and rocksalt AlN under high pressure: Effect of compression on the crystal anisotropy of wurtzite-type semiconductors
2008
Raman spectra of aluminum nitride (AlN) under pressure have been measured up to $25\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GPa}$, i.e., beyond the onset of the wurtzite-to-rocksalt phase transition around $20\phantom{\rule{0.3em}{0ex}}\mathrm{GPa}$. The experimental pressure coefficients for all the Raman-active modes of the wurtzite phase are reported and compared to those obtained from ab initio lattice dynamical calculations, as well as to previous experimental and theoretical results. The pressure coefficients of all the Raman-active modes in wurtzite-type semiconductors (AlN, GaN, InN, ZnO, and BeO), as well as the relatively low bulk modulus and phase transition pressure in wurtzite AlN, a…
CARS spectroscopy of CH4 for implication of temperature measurements in supercritical LOX/CH4 combustion
2007
International audience; Experimental and theoretical investigations of coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy of CH4 have been carried out. Experimental spectra were measured in a heated high-pressure test cell and compared with numerical simulations. Good agreement was obtained for the temperature and the pressure dependence of CARS spectra in the ranges 300-1100 K and 0.1-5.0 MPa. The observed dependencies provide useful guidance for CARS thermometry, allowing quantitative measurements of temperature in high-pressure combustors. Application of multiplex CH4 CARS thermometry for single-shot measurements in a LOX/CH4 combustion at high pressure was demonstrated at supercritical conditions …
Shrinkage Bubbles: The C–O–H–S Magmatic Fluid System at San Cristóbal Volcano
2018
New analytical results for the composition of shrinkage bubbles (09-70 vol. %) in olivine-hosted (Fo <80%) primary melt inclusions (MIs) have been incorporated into a novel geochemical model for San Cristó bal volcano, Nicaragua. The vapour, liquid, and mineral components found inside shrinkage bubbles may represent relics of early C-O-H-S fluids exsolved from a magmatichydrothermal system. This conclusion is supported by high-resolution Raman microspectroscopy revealing: (1) gaseous CO2 (d=0·17-0·31 g/cm3 in 31 samples) coexisting with liquid H2O (in seven samples) at ambient temperature (<22°C) inside the shrinkage bubbles of naturally quenched inclusions; (2) several mineral phases (i.e.…
Controlling molecular alignment rephasing through interference of Raman-induced rotational coherence
2000
0021-9606; Quantum control over molecular alignment rephasing is experimentally investigated in gaseous CO2. The control process is achieved by illuminating the medium with a pair of pump-pulses separated in time by approximately an integer value of T0=1/8B(0), where B(0) is the rotational constant. Through a Raman-type process, each pulse alone produces rotational coherence leading to a periodic orientational anisotropy. It is the combination of the two pulses that yields to quantum interference, resulting in a modification of this anisotropy probed by a third delayed pulse. The effect is accurately analyzed for different time delays between the two pulses. A theoretical analysis supplies …
Influence of metal ions on thermal aggregation of bovine serum albumin: aggregation kinetics and structural changes
2009
Metal ions are implicated in protein aggregation processes of several neurodegenerative pathologies. In this work the effects of Cu(II) and Zn(II) ions on heat-induced structural modifications of bovine serum albumin (BSA) were studied, with the aim of delineating the role of these ions in the early stages of proteins aggregation kinetics. A joint application of different techniques was used. The aggregate growth was followed by dynamic light scattering measurements, whereas the conformational changes occurring in the protein structure were monitored by Raman and IR spectroscopy. Both in absence and in presence of metal ions, heating treatment gave rise to b-structures to the detriment of a…
Electrochemical deposition of CZTS thin films on flexible substrate
2014
Abstract In this work, we report some preliminary results concerning the fabrication of quaternary semiconductor Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) thin films on a flexible substrate through the simultaneous electrodeposition of elements having different standard electrochemical potentials. CZTS thin films were obtained by potentiostatic deposition from aqueous baths at room temperature and under N2 atmosphere, varying bath composition. Chemical composition and structure of the electrodeposited films were evaluated by EDS, SEM, RAMAN and XRD. Preliminary results on the photoelectrochemical behaviour of the films will be also presented.
Quantitative Raman spectroscopy as a tool to study the kinetics and formation mechanism of carbonates
2013
We have carried out a systematic study of abiotic precipitation at different temperatures of several Mg and Ca carbonates (calcite, nesquehonite, hydrocalcite) present in carbonaceous chondrites. This study highlights the capability of Raman spectroscopy as a primary tool for performing full mineralogical analysis. The precipitation reaction and the structure of the resulting carbonates were monitored and identified with Raman spectroscopy. Raman spectroscopy enabled us to confirm that the precipitation reaction is very fast (minutes) when Ca(II) is present in the solution, whereas for Mg(II) such reactions developed at rather slow rates (weeks). We also observed that both the composition a…
