Fabrication of CZTSe/CIGS Nanowire Arrays by One-Step Electrodeposition for Solar-Cell Application

2021

The paper reports some preliminary results concerning the manufacturing process of CuZnSnSe (CZTSe) and CuInGaSe (CIGS) nanowire arrays obtained by one-step electrodeposition for p-n junction fabrication. CZTSe nanowires were obtained through electrodeposition in a polycarbonate membrane by applying a rectangular pulsed current, while their morphology was optimized by appropriately setting the potential and the electrolyte composition. The electrochemical parameters, including pH and composition of the solution, were optimized to obtain a mechanically stable array of nanowires. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and energy-dispersion spectros…

Synthesis of Nonplanar Graphene Nanoribbon with Fjord Edges

2021

As a new family of semiconductors, graphene nanoribbons (GNRs), nanometer-wide strips of graphene, have appeared as promising candidates for next-generation nanoelectronics. Out-of-plane deformation of π-frames in GNRs brings further opportunities for optical and electronic property tuning. Here we demonstrate a novel fjord-edged GNR (FGNR) with a nonplanar geometry obtained by regioselective cyclodehydrogenation. Triphenanthro-fused teropyrene 1 and pentaphenanthro-fused quateropyrene 2 were synthesized as model compounds, and single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed their helically twisted conformations arising from the [5]helicene substructures. The structures and photophysical properties …

Phonon properties and photo-thermal oxidation of micromechanically exfoliated antimonene nanosheets

2020

Abstract Two-dimensional (2D) sheets of antimonene have attracted increasing attention due to their unique physical and chemical properties prompting potential for diverse applications. We present a facile method to prepare high-quality antimonene nanosheets (ANSs) by micromechanical exfoliation on SiO2/Si substrate. The temperature- and laser power-dependent Raman studies of exfoliated ANSs are reported and analyzed. It was found that both the out-of-plane A1g and the in-plane Eg modes red-shift linearly with increase in temperature, pointing towards anharmonic vibrations of the lattice. The thermal response of the ANSs on a SiO2/Si surface is also described using numerical simulation of t…

The effect of feedstock origin and temperature on the structure and reactivity of char from pyrolysis at 1300–2800 °C

2018

This study reports the effect of feedstock origin, residence time, and heat treatment temperature on CO2 and O2 reactivities, nanostructure and carbon chemistry of chars prepared at 1300, 1600, 2400, and 2800 °C in a slow pyrolysis reactor. The structure of char was characterized by transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy. The CO2 and O2 reactivity of char was investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. Results showed that the ash composition and residence time influence the char reactivity less than the heat treatment temperature. The heat treatment temperature and co-pyrolysis of pinewood char with biooil decreased the CO2 reactivity, approaching that of metallurgical coke…

One step grafting of monomethoxy poly(ethylenglycol) during synthesis of maghemite nanoparticles in aqueous medium

2008

Abstract Grafting of silanated monomethoxy poly(ethylene glycol) (m-PEG) onto maghemite nanoparticles surface in aqueous medium through one step procedure was investigated. The major characteristic of this work is that the grafting of m-PEG was produced during the synthesis of maghemite nanoparticles. The maghemite nanoparticles were characterized by photon correlation spectroscopy (PCS), zeta potential measurement, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The spinel structure of maghemite nanoparticles was verified and successful grafting of m-PEG was evid…

Benzyl Alcohol Assisted Synthesis and Characterization of Highly Reduced Graphene Oxide (HRG)@ZrO2 Nanocomposites

2017

We demonstrate a one-step solvothermal synthesis of HRG@ZrO2 nanocomposites using benzyl alcohol as solvent and stabilizing ligand. The as-synthesized HRG@ZrO2 hybrid nanocomposites showed a homogeneous distribution of the ZrO2 NPs (≈ 5 nm) onto HRG nanosheets. High resolution (HR)TEM, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy confirmed the presence of cubic ZrO2. The presence of benzyl alcohol as stabilizing ligand was demonstrated by ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis), Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The reduction of graphene oxide to HRG was also realized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). A study of the HRG@ZrO2 formation mec…

Precursor Polymers for the Carbon Coating of Au@ZnO Multipods for Application as Active Material in Lithium-Ion Batteries

2014

The synthesis of statistical and block copolymers based on polyacrylonitrile, as a source for carbonaceous materials, and thiol-containing repeating units as inorganic nanoparticle anchoring groups is reported. These polymers are used to coat Au@ZnO multipod heteroparticles with polymer brushes. IR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy prove the successful binding of the polymer onto the inorganic nanostructures. Thermogravimetric analysis is applied to compare the binding ability of the block and statistical copolymers. Subsequently, the polymer coating is transformed into a carbonaceous (partially graphitic) coating by pyrolysis. The obtained carbon coating is characterized by…

Interface Amorphization of Two‐Dimensional Black Phosphorus upon Treatment with Diazonium Salts

2021

Abstract Two‐dimensional (2D) black phosphorus (BP) represents one of the most appealing 2D materials due to its electronic, optical, and chemical properties. Many strategies have been pursued to face its environmental instability, covalent functionalization being one of the most promising. However, the extremely low functionalization degrees and the limitations in proving the nature of the covalent functionalization still represent challenges in many of these sheet architectures reported to date. Here we shine light on the structural evolution of 2D‐BP upon the addition of electrophilic diazonium salts. We demonstrated the absence of covalent functionalization in both the neutral and the r…
