PEST-domain-enriched tyrosine phosphatase and glucocorticoids as regulators of anaphylaxis in mice. Allergy 2012; 67: 175–182. Abstract Background:  PEST-domain-enriched tyrosine phosphatase (PEP) is a protein tyrosine phosphatase exclusively expressed in hematopoietic cells. It is a potent negative regulator of T-cell receptor signalling that acts on receptor-coupled protein tyrosine kinases. PEST-domain-enriched tyrosine phosphatase is also expressed in mast cell and is positively regulated by glucocorticoids, but its function is unknown. In…

Variation of platelet function in clinical phenotypes of acute venous thromboembolism – Results from the GMP‐VTE project

2022

Background The role of platelets in the pathogenesis of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is receiving increasing attention; however, limited information is available on platelet function in the acute phase of the disease. Objective To characterize platelet function according to VTE phenotypes. Patients/Methods In total, 154 subjects (isolated pulmonary embolism [iPE], n = 28; isolated deep vein thrombosis [iDVT], n = 35; DVT+PE, n = 91) were included. In this study platelet function analyzer (PFA)-200, light transmission aggregometry (LTA), thrombin generation (TG) in presence (PRP) and absence (PFP) of platelets and platelet flow cytometry were investigated. LASSO regression was used to select…

Myeloperoxidase mediates neutrophil activation by association with CD11b/CD18 integrins.

2004

Recruitment and activation of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) reflects a primary immunological response to invading pathogens and has also emerged as a hallmark of vascular inflammation. One of the principal enzymes released upon PMN activation is myeloperoxidase (MPO), a heme protein that not only generates cytotoxic oxidants but also impacts deleteriously on nitric oxide-dependent signaling cascades within the vasculature. Because MPO also associates with the membrane of PMN, we evaluated whether MPO could also function as an autocrine modulator of PMN activation. The extent of PMN membrane-associated MPO was elevated in patients with acute inflammatory vascular disease compared with…

Sulphate removal over barium-modified blast-furnace-slag geopolymer

2016

Blast-furnace slag and metakaolin were geopolymerised, modified with barium or treated with a combination of these methods in order to obtain an efficient SO4(2-) sorbent for mine water treatment. Of prepared materials, barium-modified blast-furnace slag geopolymer (Ba-BFS-GP) exhibited the highest SO4(2-) maximum sorption capacity (up to 119mgg(-1)) and it compared also favourably to materials reported in the literature. Therefore, Ba-BFS-GP was selected for further studies and the factors affecting to the sorption efficiency were assessed. Several isotherms were applied to describe the experimental results of Ba-BFS-GP and the Sips model showed the best fit. Kinetic studies showed that th…

Microwave response of bulk MgB2 samples of different granularity

2006

The microwave response of three high-density bulk MgB2 samples has been investigated in the linear and nonlinear regimes. The three samples, characterized by different mean size of grains, have been obtained by reactive infiltration of liquid Mg in powdered B preforms. The linear response has been studied by measuring the microwave surface impedance; the nonlinear response by detecting the power radiated by the sample at the second-harmonic frequency of the driving field. Our results suggest that bulk MgB2 prepared by the liquid Mg infiltration technique is particularly promising for manufacturing resonant cavities operating at microwave frequencies.

Unusual manifestation of an osteoid osteoma of the capitate.

1999

A case of osteoid osteoma of the capitate in a 29-year-old male is reported. The patient suffered from unspecific clinical findings and a 3-year history of uncharacteristic wrist pain. Conventional radiographs of the wrist revealed a circumscribed sclerosis in the proximal part of the capitate bone beside a diffuse demineralisation of the carpal bones. Magnetic resonance imaging demonstrated a circumscribed, tumorous lesion with marked enhancement after IV administration of contrast agent and a highly calcified nidus, which was sharply demarcated by a small rim of granulation tissue from the surrounding spongious bone. Based on MRI findings, the diagnosis of an osteoid osteoma was establish…

Biomasas pelnu ietekme uz augu augšanu

2018

Vieglo pelnu/sapropeļa granulām pievienojot slāpekli un fosforu, to efektivitāte ievē…

Mast cells as protectors of health.

2019

Mast cells (MCs), which are well known for their effector functions in T(H)2-skewed allergic and also autoimmune inflammation, have become increasingly acknowledged for their role in protection of health. It is now clear that they are also key modulators of immune responses at interface organs, such as the skin or gut. MCs can prime tissues for adequate inflammatory responses and cooperate with dendritic cells in T-cell activation. They also regulate harmful immune responses in trauma and help to successfully orchestrate pregnancy. This review focuses on the beneficial effects of MCs on tissue homeostasis and elimination of toxins or venoms. MCs can enhance pathogen clearance in many bacter…

Biopolymer Recovery from Aerobic Granular Sludge and Conventional Flocculent Sludge in Treating Industrial Wastewater: Preliminary Analysis of Differ…

2022

The recovery of biopolymers from sewage sludge could be a crucial step in implementing circular economy principles in wastewater treatment plants (WWTP). In this frame, the present study was aimed at evaluating the simultaneous production of polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) obtainable from the treatment of agro-industrial wastewater. Two biological enrichment systems, aerobic granular sludge (AGS) and a conventional activated sludge operating as a sequencing batch reactor (SBR), were monitored for 204 and 186 days, respectively. The maximum biopolymers accumulation capacity was close to 0.60 mgPHA-EPS gVSS−1 in the AGS when operating at 3 kgCODm…

Contribution to the modeling of microstructural corrosion on aluminium alloys : definition of a methodology to study the bimetallic corrosion phenome…

2008

The initiation and the propagation of aluminum alloys microstructural corrosion is mainly based on the bimetallic corrosion phenomenon. This type of corrosion is caused by galvanic coupling at a local scale between the different phases contained in the alloy. The description of the localized corrosion phenomenon has been largely studied. Their complexity can explain why they are so difficult to predict by the way of numerical tools and why the works that have been done on this subject are so scarce. The present thesis brings a new contribution to this field by suggesting a methodology based on the complementary use of local electrochemical techniques and the finite element simulation of bim…
