Using altered states of consciousness in improvisational music therapy : the potential of resonance frequency breathing

Improvisational music therapy is a type of creative arts therapy in which clients are encouraged to express themselves through the symbolic and non-verbal medium of music, by creating free music improvisations together with the therapist. The present research aims at investigating whether the efficacy of this method can be further enhanced by purposefully accessing the ego-quieting properties of altered states of consciousness. Purpose This study examined the physiological, perceptual, and performance responses to a 2-week block of increased training load and compared whether responses differ between high-intensity interval (HIIT) and low-intensity (LIT) endurance training. Methods Thirty recreationally trained males and females performed a two-week block of 10 HIIT-sessions (INT, n = 15) or 70 % increased volume of LIT (VOL, n = 15). The purpose of this study was to investigate how physical activity (PA), cardio- respiratory fitness, and body composition are associated with objective heart rate variability (HRV)-based indicators of stress and recovery on workdays. Additionally, the association of subjective self-reported stress with HRV-based stress was investigated. The effects of collisional relaxation processes on the Q-branch profile of major species present in combustions have been studied by high resolution stimulated Raman spectroscopy. Particular interest has focused on the following collisional systems: N2-N2, O2-O2, CO2-CO2, O2-N2, N2-CO2 and N2-H2O. Beyond the spin model: exchange coupling in molecular magnets with unquenched orbital angular momenta.

In this critical review we review the problem of exchange interactions in polynuclear metal complexes involving orbitally degenerate metal ions. The key feature of these systems is that, in general, they carry an unquenched orbital angular momentum that manifests itself in all their magnetic properties. Thus, interest in degenerate systems involves fundamental problems related to basic models in magnetism. In particular, the conventional Heisenberg-Dirac-Van Vleck model becomes inapplicable even as an approximation. <title>Electrochromism of W-oxide-based films: some theoretical and experimental results</title>

We survey some recent work related to electrochromic W-oxide-based thin films. The electronic structure of cubic (perovskite) WO3 and HWO3 was calculated from first principles. It was found, among other things, that hydroxide formation was energetically favored. Experimental studies were made on films prepared by reactive magnetron sputtering in Ar + O2 with and without CF4 addition and substrate bias. Second harmonic ac polarography of strongly adsorbed electroactive species

Abstract The second harmonic ac current is calculated for the case of a quasi-reversible surface redox system: both species are strongly adsorbed according to a Langmuir isotherm and the kinetics of the process are controlled by the electron transfer. The current is measured with a phase-sensitive detector and the variation of the in-phase and quadrature components vs. the frequency leads to the surface rate constant ks. The experimental results obtained for benzo-(c)cinnoline are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions and with the results of impedance measurements. The advantages of the two methods are compared.
