ReSTOR® Diffractive versus Array®2 Zonal-progressive Multifocal Intraocular Lens: a Contralateral Comparison

PURPOSE. To evaluate near and distance visual performance after implantation of a diffractive multifocal intraocular lens (MIOL) (AcrySof ReSTOR ® ) or a refractive MIOL (Array ® 2) in bilateral cataract surgery. METHODS. In this prospective, comparative trial, 18 patients with bilateral cataract were selected to have lens surgery with asymmetric MIOL implantation. Eighteen eyes received ReSTOR MIOL and the 18 fellow eyes were implanted with Array 2. Abstract Objective In this study, we investigated the roles of presepsin (PSP) and midregional proadrenomedullin (mr-proADM) in children with febrile neutropenia (FN) due to chemotherapy. Methods We assessed 36 FN episodes in 26 children. Patients were classified into bacteremia (B) and fever of unknown origin (FUO) groups. We evaluated PSP and mr-proADM at admission (T0), after 24/48 h (T1), and after 5 days (T2). Results PSP and mr-proADM levels were elevated at T0 and significantly decreased at T2. mr-proADM levels did not significantly differ between the B and FUO groups. Haemodynamic predictors of a penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer rupture using fluid-structure interaction analysis

We present preliminary data on the flow-induced haemodynamic and structural loads exerted on a penetrating atherosclerotic aortic ulcer (PAU). Specifically, one-way fluid-structure interaction analysis was performed on the aortic model reconstructed from a 66-year-old male patient with a PAU that evolved into an intramural haematoma and rupture of the thoracic aorta. The results show that elevated blood pressure (117 mmHg) and low flow velocity at the aortic wall (0.15 m/s(2)) occurred in the region of the PAU. Objective: To examine health service (HS) utilization profiles among a non-depressive population and patients with depressive symptoms (DS) with and without clinical depression. Design, subjects and setting: The study population was based on primary care patients with DS scoring ≥10 in the 21-item Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and who were at least 35 years old and had been referred to depression nurse case managers (n = 705). Their psychiatric diagnosis was confirmed with the Mini-International Neuropsychiatric Interview (M.I.N.I.). Of these patients, 447 had clinical depression. Another Look at Industry Momentum and the Cross Section of Expected Returns

This paper investigates whether industry affiliation matters to implementing industry momentum strategies. After discriminating between relevant and redundant industries it shows that only a subset corresponding to less than 50% of the overall market capitalization generates significant momentum payoffs. Industry momentum is only priced in the cross section of expected returns when relevant industries are used as test assets. An out-of-sample experiment utilizing a new double-sorting approach is proposed. It incorporates a learning period to condition momentum strategies on relevant industries and offers evidence that the conditional momentum strategy generates up to 30% higher payoffs than…
