Probing spectral properties of the QGP with real-time lattice simulations
2018
We present a new method to obtain spectral properties of a non-Abelian gauge theory in the region where occupation numbers are high. The method to measure the (single-particle) spectral function is based on linear response theory and classical-statistical lattice simulations. Although we apply it to a system far from equilibrium in a self-similar regime, the extracted spectral function can be understood within the hard thermal loop (HTL) formalism and can thus be connected to thermal equilibrium at high temperatures. This allows us to obtain quantities like the lifetime of quasiparticles that are beyond the leading order and difficult to compute within HTL. The approach has the potential to…
Isovector spin-multipole strength distributions in double- β -decay triplets
2017
In this work the energetics and strength distributions of isovector spin-dipole and spin-quadrupole transitions from the ground states of the pairs ($^{76}\mathrm{Ge}, ^{76}\mathrm{Se}$), ($^{82}\mathrm{Se}, ^{82}\mathrm{Kr}$), ($^{96}\mathrm{Zr}, ^{96}\mathrm{Mo}$), ($^{100}\mathrm{Mo}, ^{100}\mathrm{Ru}$), ($^{116}\mathrm{Cd}, ^{116}\mathrm{Sn}$), ($^{128}\mathrm{Te}, ^{128}\mathrm{Xe}$), ($^{130}\mathrm{Te}, ^{130}\mathrm{Xe}$), and ($^{136}\mathrm{Xe}, ^{136}\mathrm{Ba}$), of double-$\ensuremath{\beta}$-decay initial and final nuclei, to the ${J}^{\ensuremath{\pi}}={0}^{\ensuremath{-}},{1}^{\ensuremath{-}},{2}^{\ensuremath{-}},{1}^{+},{2}^{+}$, and ${3}^{+}$ excited states of the interm…
Confined Pt-1(1+) Water Clusters in a MOF Catalyze the Low-Temperature Water-Gas Shift Reaction with both CO2 Oxygen Atoms Coming from Water
2018
[EN] The synthesis and reactivity of single metal atoms in a low-valence state bound to just water, rather than to organic ligands or surfaces, is a major experimental challenge. Herein, we show a gram-scale wet synthesis of Pt-1(1+) stabilized in a confined space by a crystallographically well-defined first water sphere, and with a second coordination sphere linked to a metal-organic framework (MOF) through electrostatic and H-bonding interactions. The role of the water cluster is not only isolating and stabilizing the Pt atoms, but also regulating the charge of the metal and the adsorption of reactants. This is shown for the low-temperature water-gas shift reaction (WGSR: CO + H2O CO2 + H…
Temperature dependence of dynamic, tunnelling and kinetic isotope effects in formate dehydrogenase
2018
The origin of the catalytic power of enzymes has been a question of debate for a long time. In this regard, the possible contribution of protein dynamics in enzymatic catalysis has become one of the most controversial topics. In the present work, the hydride transfer step in the formate dehydrogenase (FDH EC 1.2.1.2) enzyme is studied by means of molecular dynamic (MD) simulations with quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) potentials in order to explore any correlation between dynamics, tunnelling effects and the rate constant. The temperature dependence of the kinetic isotope effects (KIEs), which is one of the few tests that can be studied by experiments and simulations to shed li…
New Insight into the Cluster Structure of $^9$Be by Reactions with Deuteron Beam
2018
International audience; Angular distributions of protons, deuterons, tritons, and alpha particles emitted in the reaction 2H+9Be at Elab=19.5, 25, and 35 MeV were measured to study the structure of 9Be, especially to shed light on the internal clusters and possible cluster transfer of 5He. The experiments were performed at sufficiently high energies to ensure suppression of compound nucleus contribution. Thus, the direct reaction mechanism should be mainly responsible for the measured five-nucleon transfer cross section. The analysis suggests a significant contribution of simultaneous five-nucleon transfer in the reaction channel 9Be (d,4He) 7Li.
The 2014 KIDA network for interstellar chemistry
2015
Chemical models used to study the chemical composition of the gas and the ices in the interstellar medium are based on a network of chemical reactions and associated rate coefficients. These reactions and rate coefficients are partially compiled from data in the literature, when available. We present in this paper kida.uva.2014, a new updated version of the kida.uva public gas-phase network first released in 2012. In addition to a description of the many specific updates, we illustrate changes in the predicted abundances of molecules for cold dense cloud conditions as compared with the results of the previous version of our network, kida.uva.2011.
Cluster-transfer reactions with radioactive beams: A spectroscopic tool for neutron-rich nuclei
2015
An exploratory experiment performed at REX-ISOLDE to investigate cluster-transfer reactions with radioactive beams in inverse kinematics is presented. The aim of the experiment was to test the potential of cluster-transfer reactions at the Coulomb barrier as a mechanism to explore the structure of exotic neutron-rich nuclei. The reactions Li7(Rb98,αxn) and Li7(Rb98,txn) were studied through particle-γ coincidence measurements, and the results are presented in terms of the observed excitation energies and spins. Moreover, the reaction mechanism is qualitatively discussed as a transfer of a clusterlike particle within a distorted-wave Born approximation framework. The results indicate that cl…
Variation of extent of reaction in closed chemical equilibrium when changing the temperature at constant volume
2011
In this paper it is presented a thermodynamic analysis that aims to find the mathematical expression of the variation of extent of reaction with the infinitesimal variation in the temperature at constant volume of a chemical equilibrium mixture. The goal of this paper is to establish an alternative approach to avoid both the Le Chatelier's principle and the problems that emerge when trying to apply its qualitative statements. This attempt is based on the laws of thermodynamics.
Quasi-elastic reactions: an interplay of reaction dynamics and nuclear structure
2011
Multinucleon transfer reactions have been investigated in 40Ar+208Pb with the Prisma+Clara set-up. The experimental differential cross sections of different neutron transfer channels have been obtained at three different angular settings taking into account the transmission through the spectrometer. The experimental yields of the excited states have been determined via particle-γ coincidences. In odd Ar isotopes, we reported a signif cant population of 11/2− states, reached via neutron transfer. Their structure matches a stretched conf guration of the valence neutron coupled to vibration quanta.
Search for elements 119 and 120
2020
A search for production of the superheavy elements with atomic numbers 119 and 120 was performed in the 50Ti+249Bk and 50Ti+249Cf fusion-evaporation reactions, respectively, at the gas-filled recoil separator TASCA at GSI Darmstadt, Germany. Over four months of irradiation, the 249Bk target partially decayed into 249Cf, which allowed for a simultaneous search for both elements. Neither was detected at cross-section sensitivity levels of 65 and 200 fb for the 50Ti+249Bk and 50Ti+249Cf reactions, respectively, at a midtarget beam energy of Elab=281.5 MeV. The nonobservation of elements 119 and 120 is discussed within the concept of fusion-evaporation reactions including various theoretical pr…
