Efficient Consecutive Synthesis of Ethyl-2-(4-Aminophenoxy) Acetate, a Precursor for Dual GK and PPARγ Activators, X-ray Structure, Hirshfeld Analysi…

2022

Herein, we report a facile synthesis of ethyl-2-(4-aminophenoxy)acetate 4 as a building synthon for novel dual hypoglycemic agents. This building template was synthesized by alkylation of 4-nitrophenol with ethyl bromo-acetate followed by selective reduction of the nitro group. This reduction methoddoes not require nascent hydrogen or any reaction complexity; it goes easily via consecutive reaction in NH4Cl/Fe to yield our target synthon as very pure crystals. This product was characterized by 1HNMR, 13CNMR, COSY, NOESY NMR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Additionally, its structure was studied and approved by X-ray single crystal structure determination. The unit cell parameters are …

Aesthetic Appeal and Visual Usability in Four Icon Design Eras

2016

Technological artefacts express time periods in their visual design. Due time, visual culture changes and thus affects the design of pictorial representations in technological products, such as icons in user interfaces. Previous research of temporal aspects in human-computer interaction has been focusing on particular interaction situations, but not on the effects of design eras on user experience. The influence of icon design styles of different eras on aesthetic and usability experiences was studied with the method of primed product comparisons. Affective preferences and their processing times were analysed in order to examine visual usability in terms of semantic distance and aesthetic a…

Fatigue while driving in a car simulator : effects on vigilance performance and autonomic skin conductance

2010

In this vigilance research the effect of fatigue on driver’s voluntary reaction times (RT) and autonomic skin conductance (SC) was studied. Participants (n=17) drove approximately 3 hours in a simulator responding simultaneously on a peripheral visual vigilance task (PVVT). RTs were classified into 5 quintiles according to their latency. Also misses and misclassifications were explored. Results indicated that RTs increased linearly over time. SC amplitudes differed significantly between RT quintiles. Vigilance performance was the best when arousals were frequent but their magnitude remained relatively low. Frequent and high amplitude arousals in turn were associated with the worst performan…

[3+2] Cycloaddition Reaction for the Stereoselective Synthesis of a New Spirooxindole Compound Grafted Imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole Scaffold : Crystal Stru…

2022

A new spirooxindole hybrid engrafted imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole core structure was designed and achieved via [3+2] cycloaddition reaction approach. One multi-component reaction between the ethylene derivative based imidazo[2,1-b]thiazole scaffold with 6-Cl-isatin and the secondary amine under heat conditions afforded the desired compound in a stereoselective manner. The relative absolute configuration was assigned based on single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Hirshfeld calculations for 4 revealed the importance of the H . . . H (36.8%), H . . . C (22.9%), Cl . . . H (10.4%) and S . . . H (6.6%), as well as the O . . . H (4.7%), N . . . H (5.3%), Cl . . . C (1.6%), Cl . . . O (1.0%) and N …

Immunology of human rickettsial diseases.

2008

Among human rickettsial diseases caused by micro-organisms of the genus Rickettsia (Order Rickettsiales; Family Rickettsiaceae), transmitted to human hosts through arthropod vectors, Mediterranean Spotted Fever, or Boutonneuse Fever, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever are considered to be important infectious diseases due to continued prevalence in the developed world, and potentially fatal outcome in severe cases. Proliferation of rickettsiae, at the site of the tick bite, results in focal epidermal and dermal necrosis (tache noire). Rickettsiae then spread via lymphatic vessels to the regional lymph nodes, and, via the bloodstream, to skin, brain, lungs, heart, liver, spleen and kidneys. Th…

“The Best Laid Plans” : Do Individual Differences in Planfulness Moderate Effects of Implementation Intention Interventions?

2022

While there is good evidence supporting the positive effect of planning strategies like implementation intentions on the relationship between intention and behavior, there is less evidence on the moderating role of individual differences in planning capacity on this effect. This study aimed to examine the role of individual differences in planfulness on the effect of planning strategies on the intention–behavior gap. Specifically, this study investigated the influence of planfulness on the effectiveness of implementation intentions on goal-directed behavior using an experimental design. Undergraduate university students (N = 142) with high and low levels of planfulness based on a priori sco…

Theoretical study of neutrino scattering off the stable even Mo isotopes at low and intermediate energies

2011

A systematic study of the cross sections of neutral-current neutrino scattering off the stable even Mo isotopes (mass number A = 92, 94, 96, 98, 100), at low and intermediate neutrino energies (E(nu) <= 130 MeV), is presented and discussed. The required wave functions for the initial (ground state) and all accessible final nuclear states are constructed in the context of the quasi-particle random-phase approximation (QRPA) and tested against data on the low-lying energy spectra of the isotopes in question. The individual contributions coming from the polar-vector and axial-vector components of the hadronic current for the coherent and incoherent channels of each isotope are investigated. Th…

Droplet digital PCR as a tool for investigating dynamics of cryptic symbionts

2021

Abstract Interactions among symbiotic organisms and their hosts are major drivers of ecological and evolutionary processes. Monitoring the infection patterns among natural populations and identifying factors affecting these interactions are critical for understanding symbiont–host relationships. However, many of these interactions remain understudied since the knowledge about the symbiont species is lacking, which hinders the development of appropriate tools. In this study, we developed a digital droplet PCR (ddPCR) assay based on apicomplexan COX1 gene to detect an undescribed agamococcidian symbiont. We show that the method gives precise and reproducible results and enables detecting cryp…

Acidic Co-Catalysts in Cationic Gold Catalysis.

2016

A systematic study on the effects of Lewis or Bronsted acid co-catalysts in gold-catalyzed reactions was undertaken using representative reactions (O-, N-, and C-nucleophilic additions to alkynes). Through these reactions, it was demonstrated that an acidic co-catalyst can increase the catalyst turnover significantly, enabling practical reaction rates at competitive catalyst loadings (<1 mol %). Further investigation is currently underway to improve the understanding of the subtle principles underlying these experimental observations.

Cross-Linked Imidazolium Salts as Scavengers for Palladium.

2014

Five imidazolium-based materials have been synthesised and used for the first time as palladium scavengers. Radical reactions of suitable bis-vinylimidazolium salts led to a series of insoluble materials through homo-polymerisation, immobilisation with a 3-mercaptopropyl-modified silica gel or co-polymerisation with ethylene glycol dimethylacrylate. These materials were screened as palladium scavengers with a set of palladium(0) and palladium(II) compounds in different solvents and at different starting amounts of palladium. In many cases, residual amounts of palladium were lower than 5 ppm, as requested for the manufacture of active pharmaceutical ingredients and fine chemicals. The applic…
