A randomized trial of quilizumab in adults with refractory chronic spontaneous urticaria
2016
Responsiveness and minimal important difference of the urticaria control test
2017
This study demonstrates the responsiveness of the Urticaria Control Test (UCT). Changes of its score by 3 points or more reflect a clinically relevant change of disease control (minimal important difference).
S2k Guidelines for Cutaneous Basal Cell Carcinoma - Part 2: Treatment, Prevention and Follow-up
2019
Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common malignant tumor among fair-skinned individuals, and its incidence had been steadily rising in the past decades. In order to maintain the highest quality of patient care possible, the German S2k guidelines were updated following a systematic literature search and with the participation of all professional societies and associations involved in the management of the disease. Part 2 addresses issues such as proper risk stratification, the various therapeutic approaches, and prevention as well as follow-up of patients with basal cell carcinoma.
A Case of Moderate Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Psoriasis Treated with Secukinumab
2018
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a disorder of the apocrine gland causing a chronic, recurrent and painful inflammation. It is a disabilitating condition and, though many therapeutic options are available, the response is often ineffective in most cases and patients can present many recurrences with physical and psychological sequelae. Recent data had shown increased interleukin (IL)-17 serum levels in patients with HS. Psoriasis is a chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disorder and new evidences have shown the role of Th17 cells in its pathogenesis and the therapeutic efficacy of anti-IL-17 antibodies. We present a case of a patient suffering from psoriasis and HS successfully treated wit…
Hyperspectral imaging in detecting dermal invasion in lentigo maligna melanoma
2017
2020
Background Psoriasis is a frequent chronic inflammatory cytokine‐mediated skin disease and was identified to be an independent risk factor for the occurrence of myocardial infarction (MI). However, data about the impact of psoriasis on mortality and other in‐hospital adverse events in the setting of MI are sparse and inconsistent. Methods and Results The nationwide German inpatient sample of the years 2005 to 2016 was used for statistical analysis. Hospitalized patients with MI were stratified for the presence of psoriasis and the impact of psoriasis on in‐hospital events was investigated. Overall, 3 307 703 patients with MI (37.6% females, 56.8% aged ≥70 years) were treated in Germany (20…

Detection of laryngeal squamous cell carcinoma in a context of acrokeratosis paraneoplastica: Case report
2018
Background: Acrokeratosis paraneoplastica is an infrequent paraneoplastic disease in which cutaneous lesions appear and develop in a context of an underlying malignancy. Upper aerodigestive tract carcinomas are the most common neoplasias associated with this syndrome. The aim of this report is to raise awareness of this syndrome, since the recognition of the skin lesions could allow suspicion and diagnosis of the underlying neck malignancy at an early curable stage. Methods: We report a case of a 62-year-old life-long smoking male who presented a several months evolution of multiple skin lesions, affecting both ear lobes, hands and feet. He was referred for appropriate diagnosis and treatme…
Pruritic and antipruritic colors: An exploratory pilot study.
2020
Itch is the commonest skin-related symptom and can be influenced by visual cues as exemplified by the phenomenon of "contagious itch." Colors are visual cues able to modify somatosensory inputs. We explored the relationship of colors and itch and the impact of color viewing on itch intensity. In this cross-sectional study, patients suffering from itch with a mean intensity of ≥2 on a Numerical Rating Scale during the last 7 days were evaluated. The study consisted of a questionnaire-based part using The Manchester Color Wheel and the ItchyQoL, followed by an interventional part. All 72 itch patients were able to match their itchy sensation with a color: In 68 patients (94.4%) this "pruritic…
Bedeutung der Kalkdepot-elimination bei Tendinosis calcarea der Schulter
2000
Aim: To evaluate the effect of complete elimination of the calcific deposit on the clinical outcome in patients with a recalcitrant calcifying tendinitis of the shoulder. Patients and methods: 50 patients with a chronic calcifying tendinitis of the shoulder (Type Gartner I or II) underwent a single application of extracorporeal shock waves (3000 impulses, energy flux density 0.60mj/ mm 2 ). After one year 45 patients were evaluated radiologically and clinically. Results: Radiologically a complete absorption of the calcific deposit was observed in 21 patients (47%). In 9 patients there was no radiological change. The radiological success was closely related to the radiomorphology of the depo…
