Nanotechnology produces basic structures that show a significant variability in their individual physical properties. This experimental fact may constitute a serious limitation for most applications requiring nominally identical building blocks. Interface engineering for improved light transmittance through photonic crystal flat lenses

In this paper, we present photonic crystal flat lenses with interfaces engineered to improve the light transmittance thanks to a broad angles impedance matching. The interface engineering consists in the realization of antireflection gratings on the edges of the lenses which are designed to reduce the propagative waves reflectivity over a wide range of incident angles. The fabricated structures were measured in optical near-field and a four times enhancement of the light transmission efficiency is reported.

A complete innovative and portable, for on-field operation, Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) biosensing system for wine quality monitoring was designed, realized and tested; the system takes advantage of the innovative module Spreeta™, an integrated transducer designed by Texas Instruments able to recognize the Surface Resonance Phenomena and to represent it through electrical signals. In this paper we propose a clustering technique set up to separate and find out the two main components of seismicity: the background seismicity and the triggered one. We suppose that a seismic catalogue is the realization of a non homogeneous space-time Poisson clustered process, with a different parametrization for the intensity function of the Poisson-type component and of the clustered (triggered) component. Acylsemicarbazide Moieties with Dynamic Reversibility and Multiple Hydrogen Bonding for Transparent, High Modulus, and Malleable Polymers

The realization of covalent adaptable networks with excellent mechanical and dynamic properties remains a major challenge. Herein, the acylsemicarbazide (ASC) moieties with dynamic reversibility and multiple hydrogen bonding were disclosed and used to prepare transparent, high modulus, and malleable polymer networks. It was found that the ASC moiety can reversibly generate isocyanate and hydrazide at elevated temperatures, that is, exhibiting dynamic reversibility. ASC can also produce the disordered multiple hydrogen bonds that contribute to superior mechanical strength for dynamic polymers.
