First-year blood pressure increase steepest in low birthweight newborns.

2006

The present research has been undertaken prospectively to study the impact of birthweight and growth pattern on blood pressure changes from birth through the first year of life.Parents of newborns born at term (gestational age37 weeks) after uncomplicated pregnancies and in the absence of perinatal illness were randomly invited to allow their children to participate in the study. One hundred and forty-nine (84 male and 65 female) newborns were included in the present analysis. The newborns were divided into four groups according to birthweight:2500 g (n = 23); 2500-2999 g (n = 39); 3000-3500 g (n = 48); and3500 g (n = 39).At birth systolic and diastolic blood pressure were significantly low…

Cry characteristics of 172 healthy 1-to 7-day-old infants.

2002

A total of 1,836 cry signals from 172 healthy babies, 1–7 days old, were analysed with sound spectrography. The mean values for the 8–15 cries from each infant were calculated and used for the statistical analyses. The mean duration of the cry signals was 1.4 ± 0.6 s. The mean fundamental frequency was 496 ± 95 cps (Hz). Fifty percent of the mean fundamental frequencies in the 8–15 cries analysed from each baby varied between 450 and 520 Hz. Of the children, 93% had cries with a mean fundamental frequency below 600 Hz. The mean value of the highest point of the fundamental frequency was 583 ± 151 Hz and of the lowest point 398 ± 75 Hz. The melody type had mainly a rising-falling contour, th…

ANALYSIS OF WHOLE BLOOD AND PLACENTA—A CASE STUDY OF MOTHERS AND THEIR BABIES

2002

In a previous report optimisation of ED-XRF and TXRF for whole blood analysis has been reported. In the present work the optimised technique has been applied to investigate possible influence on pregnancy outcome due to an environment characterised by high levels of pollutants. Two groups of maternal and neonate whole blood were analysed with TXRF and GFAAS. The material of the first group was taken from Zabrze (Upper Silesia, Poland), an industrial region with a high degree of pollution. The second group consisted of controls from the Goteborg region in Sweden, where the levels of toxic pollutants in the environment are not as high as those in Zabrze. The results show that as compared with…

D-dímeros en el recién nacido sano

2015

Distribution of lymphocyte surface antigens in healthy neonates.

1994

Using flow cytometric analysis we investigated the distribution of major lymphocyte surface antigens in newborn infants. A total of 221 newborns entered the study, of whom 53 fullfilled our criteria of healthy mature neonates. Percentages of immunofluorescent-positive cells were as follows (median and range from 25th to 75th percentiles given): for CD1 3.8%; 2.3%–5.8%. CD2 60.9%; 52.4%–66.8%. CD3 57.5%; 50.5%–63.3%. TcRas 57.7%; 48.1%–60.0%. CD4 36.3%; 28.0%–42.6%. CD8 23.0%; 20.0%–27.4%. CD11a 56.3%; 46.3%–68.5%. CD19 12.1%; 8.6%–14.8%. CD20 10.9%; 8.4%–12.9%. CD25 2.6%; 2.1%–4.5%. CDw52 61.0%; 51.2%–76.1%. CD71 5.2%; 3.1%–9.3%. While the ranges for the percentage of immunofluorescent-posi…

Sonographische Darstellbarkeit und Größenbestimmung von Abdominalorganen bei gesunden Neugeborenen

1988

The determination of organ size is another important criterium in ultrasound examination. There are only few investigations in the neonatal group. Therefore in a prospective study the abdominal organs of 85 neonates were examined with a 7.5 MHz small part scanner. These organs were measured in standardized sections in order to establish normal values]
