Redox modulation of Rubisco conformation and activity through its cysteine residues

Treatment of purified Rubisco with agents that specifically oxidize cysteine-thiol groups causes catalytic inactivation and increased proteolytic sensitivity of the enzyme. It has been suggested that these redox properties may sustain a mechanism of regulating Rubisco activity and turnover during senescence or stress. Current research efforts are addressing the structural basis of the redox modulation of Rubisco and the identification of critical cysteines. Improvement of catalytic activity over Cu--Fe modified Al-rich Beta catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction of NOx with NH3

Copper and iron bimetal modified Al-rich Beta zeolites from template-free synthesis were prepared for selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of NOx with NH3 in exhaust gas streams. Comparing to the Cu-based and Fe-based mono-component Beta catalysts, Cu(3.0)-Fe(1.3)-Beta bi-component catalyst shows better low-temperature activity and wider reaction-temperature window. Over 80% of NO conversion can be achieved at the temperature region of 125–500 °C. Due to the synergistic effect of copper and iron evidenced by XRD, UV–Vis–NIR, EPR and XPS measurements, the dispersion state of active components as well as the ratio of Cu2+/Cu+ and Fe3+/Fe2+ were improved over Cu(3.0)-Fe(1.3)-Beta. Total oxidation of VOCs on Au nanoparticles anchored on Co doped mesoporous UVM-7 silica

Abstract Gold deposited on a cobalt containing siliceous mesoporous structure, UVM-7, presents a good catalytic performance in the total oxidation of propane and toluene. The presence of both gold and cobalt is necessary as bimetallic Au/Co-UVM-7 catalysts are remarkably more active than monometallic Au/UVM-7 or Co-UVM-7 catalysts. The improved activity of the bimetallic AuCo-samples if compared to gold free cobalt catalysts can be explained on the basis of the enhanced reducibility of some cobalt species in the presence of gold, which facilitates the redox cycle. NOx selective catalytic reduction at high temperatures with mixed oxides derived from layered double hydroxides

[EN] Mixed oxides derived from layered double hydroxides (LDHs) have been investigated as potential catalysts for the NOx removal at high temperatures. The best results were obtained with Co–Al mixed oxides derived from LDHs that are active at 750 ◦C in the presence of oxygen and water. These catalysts could reduce or/and decompose the NOx formed in the dense phase of the FCC regenerator, being deactivated at oxygen concentrations higher than 1.5%. La resistenza di interfaccia calcestruzzo poroso-terreni a grana fina per il consolidamento di pendii mediante trincee drenanti profonde

Le trincee drenanti profonde rappresentano uno dei metodi più efficaci per la mitigazione del rischio da frana, in pendii con falda idrica. Esse sono realizzate mediante pannelli o pali secanti. Il riempimento è costituito di calcestruzzo poroso o materiale granulare. Se le trincee sono adeguatamente “innestate” nel terreno stabile e il materiale di riempimento ha sufficiente resistenza e rigidezza come il calcestruzzo poroso, si ha ulteriore in-cremento di resistenza a taglio per effetto shear keys, oltre a quello derivante dalla riduzione delle pressioni in-terstiziali. Pervious concrete for deep trench drains used to stabilise slopes must simultaneously satisfy many requirements namely adequate hydraulic conductiv-ity adequate shear strength a few days after pour-ing capacity to act as a protective filter for soils in which the drain is installed good resistance to clog-ging and adequate residual hydraulic conductivity. The pervious concrete with appropriated mix-design can effectively satisfy all the abovementioned requirements. If the trenches depth is such that they intersect the sliding surface and if the trenches are adequate-ly "socket" in the layers of stable soil there is a fur-ther increase in shear strength due to the shear keys effect. This latter is in addition to the increase in shear strength resulting from the reduction of inter-stitial pressures that remains the principal scope of the draining trenches. Obviously the increase of shear strength due to the shear keys effect occurs if the trenches are filled with material that have enough strength and stiffness such as the porous concrete. In this case the beneficial effects of the draining trenches on stability are also due to the resistance at the concrete interface of the trench - soils and to the intrinsic resistance of the concrete at the area of the trench intersected by the sliding surface taken into consideration.The increase in resistance due to the shear keys effect can be very significant in relation to the thickness and interspace of the trenches. Results reported in the paper demonstrated that the interface fine grained soil-pervious concrete is higher than the residual shear strength of the soil.

Large-scale nonlinear dimensionality reduction for network intrusion detection

International audience; Network intrusion detection (NID) is a complex classification problem. In this paper, we combine classification with recent and scalable nonlinear dimensionality reduction (NLDR) methods. Classification and DR are not necessarily adversarial, provided adequate cluster magnification occurring in NLDR methods like $t$-SNE: DR mitigates the curse of dimensionality, while cluster magnification can maintain class separability.
