Cold vapour atomic fluorescence determination of mercury in milk by slurry sampling using multicommutation

2004

Abstract A highly sensitive mechanized method has been developed for the determination of mercury in milk by atomic fluorescence spectrometry (AFS). Samples were sonicated for 10 min in an ultrasound water bath in the presence of 8% (v/v) aqua regia, 2% (v/v) antifoam A and 1% (m/v) hydroxilamine hydrochloride, and after that, they were treated with 8 mmol l −1 KBr and 1.6 mmol l −1 KBrO 3 in an hydrochloric medium. Atomic fluorescence measurements were made by multicommutation, which provides a fast alternative in quality control analysis, due to the easy treatment of a large number of samples (approximately 70 h −1 ), and is an environmentally friendly procedure, which involves a waste ge…

Classification trees for preference data: a distance-based approach

2014

In the framework of preference rankings, when the interest lies in explaining which predictors and which interactions among predictors are able to explain the observed preference structures, the possibility to derive consensus measures using a classi cation tree represents a novelty and an important tool given its easy interpretability. In this work we propose the use of a multivariate decision tree where a weighted Kemeny distance is used both to evaluate the distances between rankings and to de ne an impurity measure to be used in the recursive partitioning. The proposed approach allows also to weight di erently high distances in rankings in the top and in the bottom alternatives.

References medikamentu biežā m…

Using the modern CNC controllers capabilities for estimating the machining forces during the milling process

2017

Machining forces can nowadays be measured by using 3D dynamometers, which are usually very expensive devices and hardly available for most of the CNC machine-tools users. On the other hand, modern CNC controllers have nowadays the ability to display and save many outputs within the machining process, such as the currents or even the torques at the shaft's level for the feed motors on each axis. These outputs can be used for estimating the machining forces, but it is to be noticed that the above-mentioned currents and torques are proportional with the overall resistant forces, which includes not only technological forces, but also friction, inertial and pre-tensioning forces. This paper pres…

A simple model of income, aggregate demand and the process of credit creation by private banks

2013

This paper presents a small macroeconomic model describing the main mechanisms of the process of creation by the private banking system. The model is composed of a core unit-where the dynamics of income, credit and aggregate demand are determined-and a set of sectoral accounts that ensure its stock-flow consistency. In order to grasp the role of credit and banks on the functioning of the economic system we make an explicit distinction between planned and realized variables, thanks to which, while maintaining the ex-post accounting consistency, we are able to introduce an ex-ante wedge between current aggregate income and planned expenditure. Private banks are the only economic agents capabl…

The Impact of Credit on Economic Growth in the Global Crisis Context

2013

Abstract Is there a connection between credit and economic growth in the present economic context? Credit was one of the factors which triggered the global crisis, thus, in the present paper we attempt to show whether there is a connection between credit and economic growth, the economy being unable to develop in the absence of credit. With the aid of a statistic software we have tried to determine the supposed existence of a connection between the GDP, credits offered to public administration and credits offered to households. The results of the analysis show that credits offered to households contribute to a greater extent to the formation of the GDP than credits offered to public adminis…

Reference standard space hippocampus labels according to the European Alzheimer's Disease Consortium–Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative harm…

2017

Abstract Introduction A harmonized protocol (HarP) for manual hippocampal segmentation on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has recently been developed by an international European Alzheimer's Disease Consortium–Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative project. We aimed at providing consensual certified HarP hippocampal labels in Montreal Neurological Institute (MNI) standard space to serve as reference in automated image analyses. Methods Manual HarP tracings on the high-resolution MNI152 standard space template of four expert certified HarP tracers were combined to obtain consensual bilateral hippocampus labels. Utility and validity of these reference labels is demonstrated in a simple …
