Antagonism of corticotropin-releasing factor CRF 1 receptors blocks the enhanced response to cocaine after social stress
2018
Numerous studies have shown that social defeat stress induces an increase in the rewarding effects of cocaine. In this study we have investigated the role played by the main hypothalamic stress hormone, corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF), in the effects that repeated social defeat (RSD) induces in the conditioned rewarding effects and locomotor sensitization induced by cocaine. A total of 220 OF1 mice were divided into experimental groups according to the treatment received before each social defeat: saline, 5 or 10 mg/kg of the nonpeptidic corticotropin-releasing factor CRF1 receptor antagonist CP-154,526, or 15 or 30 µg/kg of the peptidic corticotropin-releasing factor CRF2 receptor ant…
Effects of repeated social defeat on adolescent mice on cocaine-induced CPP and self-administration in adulthood: integrity of the blood-brain barrier
2015
Social stress in adulthood enhances cocaine self-administration, an effect that has been related with an increase in extracellular signal-regulated kinase and p38α mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphorylation. A detrimental effect of cocaine on blood-brain barrier (BBB) integrity has also been reported. This study evaluates the effects of repeated social defeat (RSD) during adolescence on the reinforcing and motivational effects of cocaine in adult mice and the changes induced by RSD on BBB permeability. Cocaine self-administration, conditioned place preference and quantitative analysis of claudin-5, laminin, collagen-IV and IgG immunoreactivity took place 3 weeks after RSD. Mice social…
New Hypolipaemic Agents Designed by Molecular Topology: Pharmacological Studies of 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-methylpyridine and 2,6-Di-tert-butylpyridine
1999
New compounds showing hypolipaemic activity have been designed using a computer-aided method based on molecular topology and QSAR analysis. Linear discriminant analysis and connectivity functions were used to design three potentially suitable drugs which were tested for hypolipaemic properties by the Triton WR-1339 test in rats. The pharmacological tests carried out on the newly designed compounds demonstrated the existence of notable activity in phase I for two of them. namely 2,6-Di-tert-butyl-4-methylpyridine (C.A.S. 38222-83-2) and 2,6-Di-tert-butylpyridine (C.A.S. 585-48-8), with respect to the level of total cholesterol. Both substances decrease the lipaemia to lower levels than clofi…
Material y metodos El intercambio terapeutico normalizad…
Search for New Antihistaminic Compounds by Molecular Connectivity
1999
In this paper it is demonstrated that by adequate selection of topological descriptors we can make possible the prediction of different pharmacological properties, such as plasmatic concentration or sedative effect, within a group of antihistaminic drugs. Moreover, also demonstrated is the usefulness of molecular connectivity in the search of new active compounds. Examples of such compounds are 4-(l-buthylpenthyl)pyridine, N-(3-bromopropyl)-phtalimide and N-(3-chlorpropyl)-piperidin hydrochloride. All of them show antihistaminic activity values more than 30% higher than that of terfenadine, which is used as the reference drug.
Rewarding Properties of Testosterone in Intact Male Mice
2000
The present study examined the rewarding properties of 4-androsten-17β-ol-3-one testosterone in intact male mice using the conditioned place preference (CPP) technique. In Experiment 1, the pharmacokinetics of 0.8 and 1.2 mg/kg of testosterone were studied to determine the most appropriate temporal interval to test behavior. Additionally, the locomotor activity was recorded to control a possible interfering effect on CPP. The maximum testosterone concentration was registered at 45 min of administration, and no effects on activity were found. In Experiment 2, three groups of male OF-1 mice received four pairings of the least-preferred compartment with testosterone (0.8, 1, or 1.2 mg/kg, SC) …
Spin transport across antiferromagnets induced by the spin Seebeck effect
2018
For prospective spintronics devices based on the propagation of pure spin currents, antiferromagnets are an interesting class of materials that potentially entail a number of advantages as compared to ferromagnets. Here, we present a detailed theoretical study of magnonic spin current transport in ferromagnetic-antiferromagnetic multilayers by using atomistic spin dynamics simulations. The relevant length scales of magnonic spin transport in antiferromagnets are determined. We demonstrate the transfer of angular momentum from a ferromagnet into an antiferromagnet due to the excitation of only one magnon branch in the antiferromagnet. As an experimental system, we ascertain the transport acr…
Temperature dependence of the toxic effects of phenytoin on peripheral neuromuscular function of the rat tail.
1990
We studied the acute effects of a single dose of phenytoin (250 mg/kg) on peripheral neuromuscular function. The evoked muscle action potentials of the dorsal segmental muscles in the rat tail, and the conduction velocity of the dorsal nerve trunk which innervates them, were measured before and after the intraperitoneal injection of phenytoin. The experiments were performed at different temperatures, 27 (physiological tail temperature), 36 and 37 degrees C (physiological central temperature) in different groups of animals. The amplitudes of the evoked muscle action potentials in the treated groups showed no significant modifications at 27 degrees C, at 36 degrees C a small nonsignificant de…
La vida cotidiana de los vecinos de Manila a través de sus testamentos e inventarios de bienes
2019
With the general objective indicated in its title, this work tries to highlight relevant aspects in the continuity of the Spanish domain in the Philippines, dependent on the maintenance of the Spanish capital. The inevitable selection of topics has lead the preferences of this work towards the residents collaboration to defend the city, the conversion of many of them into traders of exotic products and singular slaves owners, and their collaboration to an incredible miscegenation due to the ethnic variety. On the other hand, to follow the footsteps of the first generation of residents in Manila, at the end of the 16th century and during the 17th century, this work gives us some information …
Eliminating self-reference from Grelling's and Zwicker's paradoxes
2014
The goal of this paper is to present Yabloesque versions of Grelling¿s and Zwicker¿s paradoxes concerning the notions of ¿heterological¿ and ¿hypergame¿ respectively. We will offer counterparts of these paradoxes that do not seem to involve self-reference or vicious circularity.
