We ask two questions: what are the factors that influence researchers’ public engagement activities (PEA)? And what are the impacts of these activities on the researcher? After presenting a historical overview of PEA, we analyze 20 surveys carried out between 1967 and 2014. We identify some global trends: PEA is generally positively perceived, researcher’s engagement is occasional but robust. Besides those trends some differences appear between studies based on theoretical models and empirical studies: the latter report complaints such as lack of time or lack of recognition, whereas theoretical-based ones challenge these statements.To further explore our two questions, we used two approache…

The reflection coefficient of a flared microstrip line radiating in an infinite parallel-plate waveguide

In this article the reflection coefficient of a tapered microstrip line radiating in an infinite parallel-plate conducting waveguide is calculated. The reflection coefficient at the feed line is evaluated by using the aperture admittance of the horn and the scattering matrix of the continuous taper. The theoretical behavior of the aperture admittance is shown and the reflection coefficient of a microstrip horn radiating in the parallel-plate region of a bootlace lens is measured in order to verify the model. © 1993 John Wiley & sons, Inc.

Abstract In this paper we first reflect on the theoretical foundation of ethical entrepreneurship training in the field of economy. In this sense, we try to establish briefly the theoretical and historical assumptions of ethical entrepreneurship, especially from a review of the work of Adam Smith, professor of Moral Philosophy and central figure in the birth of the modern economy. We then present a definition of entrepreneurial activity, which is closely linked to a social and ethical dimension of economy and to the internal goods of economic activity. An optimal dimensioning method of a green wall structure for noise pollution reduction

International audience; This paper concern the optimization of a multilayered green wall structure including substrate and foliage in order to reduce as much as possible backward noise reflection and forward transmission from the wall. Each component involved in the wall structure is fully characterized experimentally to get its transfer matrix. Simulation demonstrated that foliage layer superimposed to substrate layer doesn’t affect the transmission losses but contributes greatly to the increase of return losses of the green wall structure. Robotics applications in urban environments are subject to obstacles that exhibit specular reflections hampering autonomous navigation. On the other hand, these reflections are highly polarized and this extra information can successfully be used to segment the specular areas. In nature, polarized light is obtained by reflection or scattering. Stability of hydrodynamical relativistic planar jets

The effects of relativistic dynamics and thermodynamics in the development of Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities in planar, relativistic jets along the early phases (namely linear and saturation phases) of evolution has been studied by a combination of linear stability analysis and high-resolution numerical simulations for the most unstable first reflection modes in the temporal approach. Three different values of the jet Lorentz factor (5, 10 and 20) and a few different values of specific internal energy of the jet matter (from 0.08 to $60.0 c^2$) have been considered. Figures illustrating the evolution of the perturbations are also shown.

"You helped me out of that darkness" Children as dialogical partners in the collaborative post-family therapy research interview.

Applying Dialogical Methods for Investigations of Happening of Change (DIHC), this study investigated how children who had been diagnosed with an oppositional defiant or conduct disorder participated in a collaborative post‐therapy research interview and talked about their experiences of family therapy. The results showed that the children participated as dialogical partners talking in genuine, emotional, and reflective ways. Encountered as full‐membership partners, the children also co‐constructed meanings for their sensitive experiences.
