Photorefractive and photochromic effects in Sn2P2S6 at various temperatures

2013

Abstract Photochromic effect in nominally pure and doped Sn 2 P 2 S 6 photorefractive crystals is investigated in the temperature range 120–310 K. This effect determines a mechanism of the amplitude hologram formation at low temperatures, and we show that a competition between the photorefractive (phase) and the amplitude gratings occurs at increasing temperature.

Optical tuning of dielectric nanoantennas for thermo-optically reconfigurable nonlinear metasurfaces

2021

We demonstrate optically tunable control of second-harmonic generation in all-dielectric nanoantennas: by using a control beam that is absorbed by the nanoresonator, we thermo-optically change the refractive index of the radiating element to modulate the amplitude of the second-harmonic signal. For a moderate temperature increase of roughly 40 K, modulation of the efficiency up to 60% is demonstrated; this large tunability of the single meta-atom response paves the way to exciting avenues for reconfigurable homogeneous and heterogeneous metasurfaces.

Thermal expansion, normalized thermo-optic coefficients, and condition for second harmonic generation of a Nd:YAG laser with wide temperature bandwid…

2011

Interferometric determination of thermal expansion and of normalized thermo-optic coefficients of RbTiOPO4 at four laser wavelengths are performed as a function of temperature. A suitable vectorial formalism applied to obtained data allows the establishment of the temperature dependence of refractive indices, and subsequent theoretical analysis enables one to predict that an extremum in the evolution of the phase-matching direction in the (X,Y) plane should occur near 100 °C for type II second harmonic generation of Nd:YAG lasers, with a temperature bandwidth that can be as large as 117 °C for a crystal of 10 mm in length. Such unusual behavior is observed experimentally by recording the co…

Raman Studies of Photorefractive Lithium Niobate Single Crystals

2014

A study of Raman spectra of lithium niobate single crystals: stoichiometric, ostensibly pure congruent LiNbO3, and congruent LiNbO3 containing admixture of yttrium is reported. Raman bands observed in spectra excited by visible laser radiation are thoroughly compared to the same bands excited by infrared laser radiation. The broadening of Raman bands excited by radiation of shorter wavelengths is attributed to photo-refraction induced by visible radiation (514 nm) while being absent under infrared radiation (1064 nm). Attributing the effect of photo-refraction to radiation-induced structural changes in the illuminated part of the crystal lattice the authors interpret the observed broadening…

Kinetics of Photorefractive Light Scattering in Stoichiometric LiNbO3Single Crystals Grown from Melt Containing 58.6 Mole% of Li2O

2011

A study of kinetics of photo-refractive light scattering in ostensibly pure stoichiometric LiNbO3 (Li/Nb = 1) single crystal grown from melt containing 58.6 mole% Li2O excited by laser radiation of 0.53 μm is reported. Asymmetry of the distribution of scattered light intensity is revealed and found to be a linear function of the intensity of the exciting radiation in the 35–160 mW range. Due to heating of the crystal, at farther increase of the radiation intensity the distribution of scattered light contracts.

High Quality Factor Silicon Membrane Metasurface for Intensity-Based Refractive Index Sensing

2021

We propose a new sensing device based on all-optical nano-objects placed in a suspended periodic array. We demonstrate that the intensity-based sensing mechanism can measure environment refractive index change of the order of 1.8×10−6, which is close to record efficiencies in plasmonic devices.

Near-infrared spatial solitons in heavy metal oxide A glasses

2007

We demonstrate two-dimensional spatial solitons excited by near-infrared picosecond pulses in Kerr-like heavy metal oxide glasses with a nonlinearity one order of magnitude larger than in fused silica. Solitons were obtained at 820 nm owing to the presence of multiphoton absorption, which prevented catastrophic collapse. © 2007 Optical Society of America.

Phase-matching measurements and Sellmeier equations over the complete transparency range of KTiOAsO_4, RbTiOAsO_4, and CsTiOAsO_4

2000

The sphere method is used for the direct measurement of sum- and difference-frequency generation phase matched in the principal planes of KTiOAsO4, RbTiOAsO4, and CsTiOAsO4, including the tuning curves of 1.064-µm-pumped OPO’s emitting between 3 and 5 µm. The nonlinear least-squares fitting of our experimental data leads to refined dispersion equations of the principal refractive indices; the resulting dual-oscillator form equations are valid over the complete transparency range of the three studied materials.
