Dual-polarization-pump CW laser operation in Nd3+:LiNbO3 channel waveguides fabricated by reverse proton exchange
2008
Abstract In this work, continuous-wave laser action at 1084.5 nm at room temperature in LiNbO 3 :Nd 3+ channel waveguides, fabricated by reverse proton exchange (RPE), is reported. The sample was pumped at λ = 808 nm in either σ or π-polarized configurations, TE- and TM-pumping schemes, being the laser emission π-polarized at all power levels. The laser characteristics, as function of the pumping scheme (TE or TM), have been obtained. In both cases, the laser emission was stable, without any reduction in the output power even under continuous pump operation at maximum power at room temperature, indicating high resistance to photorefractive damage.
2D+1 spatial solitons in heavy metal oxide glass
2007
Two-dimensional self-confinement of near-infrared picosecond pulsed beams is demonstrated in a novel heavy metal-oxide glass, three-photon absorption being the stabilization mechanism to prevent catastrophic collapse.

A Model to Characterize the D-T Layer of ICF Targets by Backlit Optical Shadowgraphy
2005
A numerical model is presented in order to modelize the bright ring that appears in backlit optical shadowgraphy on a transparent hollow sphere with a solid deuterium-tritium layer inside. This novel model is based on computational calculations applied to the problem of the targets used in inertial confinement fusion. The model takes into account the influences of the optical imaging system (numerical aperture, source divergence, camera resolution, etc.) and the effect of the capsule itself, diameter, thickness, and refractive index, and allows one to analyze the inner surface of a capsule in terms of thickness and roughness.
Ion implantation effects in BaTiO3 single crystals
1991
Abstract Thermally controlled helium implantation has been used to produce planar waveguides in BaTiO3 without noticeable depoling effects in the samples. Profiles for the ordinary and extraordinary refractive index are deduced from optical mode measurements. No annealing procedure is required. We report the effects of different ion fluences and energies in the MeV range on the waveguide properties.
FILTER RESPONSE OF RESONANT WAVEGUIDE DIELECTRIC GRATINGS AT PLANE-WAVE CONICAL INCIDENCE
2009
An accurate and efficient formulation is presented for the electromagnetic analysis of dielectric waveguide gratings under plane-wave conical incidence. An arbitrary number of dielectric bars can be placed inside each one-dimension periodic cell, including the effect of dielectric losses. The reflectance of a dielectric waveguide grating under conical incidence is compared with theoretical results presented by other authors, finding a very good agreement. A single-layer reflection filter has been designed centered at λ0=1.5 μm whose spectral and angular responses are shown. For this structure, the effect of the asymmetry of the distribution of the refraction index in the reflectance has bee…
MWP phase shifters integrated in PbS-SU8 waveguides
2015
[EN] We present new kind of microwave phase shifters (MPS) based on dispersion of PbS colloidal quantum dots (QDs) in commercially available photoresist SU8 after a ligand exchange process. Ridge PbS-SU8 waveguides are implemented by integration of the nanocomposite in a silicon platform. When these waveguides are pumped at wavelengths below the band-gap of the PbS QDs, a phase shift in an optically conveyed (at 1550 nm) microwave signal is produced. The strong light confinement produced in the ridge waveguides allows an improvement of the phase shift as compared to the case of planar structures. Moreover, a novel ridge bilayer waveguide composed by a PbS-SU8 nanocomposite and a SU8 passive…
Differential toolbox to shape dispersion behavior in photonic crystal fibers.
2006
We present an analytical procedure to compute the first derivatives of the propagation constants with respect to several structural parameters in photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). From them we can easily evaluate the same derivatives of other directly related magnitudes. The above derivatives provide the trend of the magnitude at issue, which allows us to take advantage of a gradient-based algorithm to shape the properties of the guiding structure. In this way we implement an optimization process to carry out real inverse design in PCFs. We focus our attention on designing PCFs with a specific chromatic dispersion behavior. Likewise, the same approach makes it possible to analyze their fabric…
Modulational instability in optical fibers with arbitrary higher-order dispersion and delayed Raman response
2006
International audience; We analyse modulational instability (MI) of electromagnetic waves in a large variety of optical fibers having different refractive-index profiles. For the normal-, anomalous-, and zero-dispersion regimes of the wave propagation, we show that whenever the second-order dispersion competes with higher-order dispersion (HOD), propagation of plane waves leads to a rich variety of dynamical behaviors. Most of the richness comes from the existence of critical behaviors, which include situations in which the HOD suppresses MI in the anomalous dispersion regime, and other situations in which the HOD acts in the opposite way by inducing non-conventional MI processes in the nor…
Oligonucleotide-Hybridization Fiber-Optic Biosensor using a Narrow Bandwidth Long Period Grating
2017
Nanometric narrowband Long Period Gratings (LPG) are investigated for the implementation of improved fiber optic biosensors. The reduction of more than one order of magnitude in the linewidth of the LPG with respect standard LPG at 1500 nm, leads to the improvement of the resolution of the sensor. By selecting the proper fabrication parameters (high numerical aperture, relatively high order mode and large length), LPGs with a 3-dB bandwidth of 1.5 nm were fabricated. The sensitivity of the LPG as a refractometer was calculated, and experimentally characterized in detail. In particular, the LP0,17 and LP0,18 resonances were investigated, in order to select the most suitable one for the bioex…
