Die Wirkung von Theophyllin, Coffein und Theobromin auf Kontraktionskraft, Erregbarkeit, Refraktrzeit und Spontanfrequenz des isolierten Herzmuskels…

1956

In the electrically driven papillary muscle of the cat's right ventricle theophylline, caffeine and theobromine exerted a positive inotropic action. Log. dose-effect regression lines for the three drugs were parallel; the effect of theophylline was significantly greater than those of caffeine and theobromine. The range of concentrations used was 1/32–1/2 mM/1.

Comparison of roxatidine and ranitidine in the treatment of refractory duodenal ulcer

1994

Abstract Fourteen patients with duodenal ulcer not healed after treatment with ranitidine at the standard dosage of 300 mg/day for 12 weeks were enrolled in the study. Eight patients were treated with roxatidine acetate, 150 mg/day, for 8 weeks (group A); six patients received treatment with ranitidine, 600 mg/day, for 8 weeks (group B). Efficacy of treatment was evaluated on the basis of reduction of ulcer pain, lowering of maximal acid output (MAO) levels, and cicatrization of ulcer lesion. The patients treated with roxatidine showed a significant reduction in MAO levels after 4 weeks, whereas the patients treated with ranitidine showed a significant reduction in MAO levels after 8 weeks.…

Small-volume hypertonic saline solution and high-dosage furosemide in the treatment of refractory congestive heart failure. A pilot study

2000

Objective: To evaluate a new therapeutic approach to hospitalised patients with refractory congestive heart failure (CHF) based on published data on the efficacy of furosemide (frusemide) intravenous infusion in refractory CHF and of small volumes of hypertonic saline solution in the low-flow state. Design and Setting: Prospective, uncontrolled study of hospital inpatients. Study Participants and Interventions: Thirty patients (20 males and 10 females) aged 65 to 85 years with refractory New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class IV CHF were given a twice-daily intravenous infusion of a small volume of hypertonic saline solution (150 ml of 1.4 to 4.6 NaCl) containing high-dosage fur…

Successful “Salvage” Therapy of Intravenous Cyclophosphamide for Refractory Polymyositis in an Elderly Patient: Case Report

2006

Dermatomyositis and polymyositis may affect children and adults and are now widely recognized as major causes of disability which, thanks to the introduction of immunosuppressive drugs, is often treatable, at least to some extent. Few data exist regarding polymyositis in elderly patients. We describe a case of refractory life-threatening polymyositis in an elderly patient, successfully treated with intravenous cyclophosphamide.

Near-coincidence lattice method for the determination of epitaxy strains during oxidation of metals

2000

Abstract A theoretical method is proposed to evaluate the strains due to epitaxy between a metal and its oxide. Based on Bollmann’s approach of two adjoining grains, it uses the quantitative texture analysis of the two materials separated by the phase boundary. Our study of the Zr/ZrO 2 and Mo/MoO 3 systems reveals strong correlations between the criterion of best fit proposed by Bollmann and the orientation distribution function obtained by a quantitative texture analysis. The results of this study are used in a thermo-mechano-chemical simulation of the oxidation process of zirconium, which leads to this observation: two different zirconia orientations induce two different oxidation kineti…

Laser Resonance Chromatography of Superheavy Elements.

2020

Optical spectroscopy constitutes the historical path to accumulate basic knowledge on the atom and its structure. Former work based on fluorescence and resonance ionization spectroscopy enabled identifying optical spectral lines up to element 102, nobelium. The new challenges faced in this research field are the refractory nature of the heavier elements and the decreasing production yields. A new concept of ion-mobility-assisted laser spectroscopy is proposed to overcome the sensitivity limits of atomic structure investigations persisting in the region of the superheavy elements. The concept offers capabilities of both broadband-level searches and high-resolution hyperfine spectroscopy of s…

CONDENSATION OF REFRACTORY METALS IN ASYMPTOTIC GIANT BRANCH AND OTHER STELLAR ENVIRONMENTS

2014

The condensation of material from a gas of solar composition has been extensively studied, but less so condensation in the environment of evolved stars, which has been mainly restricted to major compounds and some specific element groups such as the Rare Earth elements. Also of interest, however, are refractory metals like Mo, Ru, Os, W, Ir, and Pt, which may condense to form refractory metal nuggets (RMNs) like the ones that have been found in association with presolar graphite. We have performed calculations describing the condensation of these elements in the outflows of s-process enriched AGB stars as well as from gas enriched in r-process products. While in carbon-rich environments (C …

First measurement of radioisotopes by collinear laser spectroscopy at an ion-guide separator

1997

The first successful application of an ion-guide separator (IGISOL) for collinear laser spectroscopy of radioisotopes has achieved an efficiency comparable with the best obtained with catcher-ionizer facilities. The ion beam energy spread was determined to be less than 6 eV, allowing laser fluorescence resonance signals for the Ba-140,Ba-142,Ba-144 radioisotopes to be detected with high resolution and sensitivity. Applications of this technique to measuring nuclear properties of refractory elements and short lived isomers promises to be particularly advantageous.
