Oxidation resistance of LDL is correlated with vitamin E status in beta-thalassemia intermedia.

1998

The alteration of the oxidant/antioxidant balance may affect the susceptibility of low density lipoproteins (LDL) to oxidation in haemolytic disorders such as thalassemia. Thirty patients affected by beta-thalassemia intermedia were examined, and compared with age-matched healthy controls. The mean amount of vitamin E in the thalassemic LDL was lower than control (p0.0001), either when it was calculated on the base of LDL protein (61% decrease) or cholesterol (25% decrease). The LDL resistance to Cu2+-induced oxidation, evaluated as the length of the lag phase before the onset of conjugated diene (CD) lipid hydroperoxide production, was 20% lower than control. Other parameters of LDL suscep…

Timm-staining intensity is correlated with the density of Timm-positive presynaptic structures in the cerebral cortex of lizards

1987

In cortical areas of the lizard, Podarcis hispanica, Timm staining reveals a distinct pattern of lamination. At the electron-microscope level, virtually all of the reaction product is located in the synaptic vesicles of Timm-positive boutons. Using linear-regression analysis, the area density of Timm-positive bouton profiles as well as the numerical and volume density of stained vesicles were found to be closely correlated with the light-microscopic densitometric values obtained for each Timm-positive cortical zone. We discuss the possibility of estimating stereological electron-microscopic data parameters from densitometric measurements at the light-microscope level.

Community Perilaku Masyarakat dalam Mengelola Sampah Rumah Tangga di Distrik Manokwari Timur Kabupaten Manokwari

2020

This study aims to (1) determine the behavior of the community in managing household waste in Manokwari Timur District, Manokwari Regency, (2) to analyze the factors that influence people's behavior in managing household waste. This research was conducted in Manokwari Regency, West Papua Province. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with data analysis using multiple regression analysis. The results showed: (1) The overall behavior of the community in managing household waste in East Manokwari District (65.5%) was in the sufficiently supportive category. Meanwhile, as many as 34.9% are in the unsupported category, (2) The results of multiple linear regression analysis show t…

Consumers’ Perception and Behavior Towards Ecosanogene Products Made by Goat Milk

2014

Abstract This study was conducted in Sibiu, Romania to examine consumers ‘ratings of healthy products made by goat milk and health issues. It has been also examine the sociodemographic factors and the relations between food safety and human welfare. This study is based on a questionnaire, interviewing a target group consists of 105 people. The purpose of this poll was to understand the consumer needs and how the quality of the brand influences purchasing choice. The instrument used for data processing was ANOVA Regression. The results can reveal that the selected model is valid for respondents who ticked test positive, P-value = 1.31E-26 <0.05; for negative response (option “b), P-value …

Developing an erodibility triangle for soil textures in semi-arid regions, NW Iran

2016

Abstract There is a strong need to develop a simple method for rapid estimation of erodibility using readily available data. In this study, soil erodibility was measured using eleven soil textures at the plot scale (60 cm × 80 cm) on a slope of 9% in a semi-arid region. A total of 110 soil erosion experiments were conducted using ten simulated rainfalls (50 mm h− 1 for 30 min). A regression model was developed based on silt and clay content (R2 = 0.82, p

Annual runoff regional frequency analysis in Sicily

2009

Abstract This paper performs annual runoff frequency analysis in Sicily, Italy using the index runoff method. Homogeneous regions, not necessarily defined by geographical boundaries but sharing common features from a morphologic and climatic standpoint, have been identified. For each region a single probability distribution function can be fitted to the available annual runoff data scaled by the index runoff. Starting from an initial dataset of 105 hydrometric stations, 57 stations have been selected using heuristic criteria associated with the Hosking and Wallis’s discordancy measure. The Mantel tests have been then applied to find out the physical and morphological parameters best correla…

Comparison of aggregate stability indices for soil classification and assessment of soil management practices

1989

Summary In view of soil structure analysis and land-use and management history evaluation, several mechanical indices of soil structure were tested on 13 Italian soils. From the wet and dry sieving aggregate distributions, a pseudo-textural aggregation index (Ipta) and a mechanical aggregation index (Ima)) were determined and compared with other soil structure stability indices based on single-sieve analysis. The single-sieve indices S and WSI were good correlated with Ipta and Ima, showing the possibility of substituting the time-consuming aggregate-size distribution determinations. All the soil structure indices were correlated with selected semi-permanent soil characteristics. Soil struc…

Effect of the relative optical air mass and the clearness index on solar erythemal UV irradiance

2014

This paper analyses the effects of the clearness index (Kt) and the relative optical air mass (mr) on erythemal UV irradiance (UVER). The UVER measurements were made in Valencia (Spain) from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm between June 2003 and December 2012 and (140,000 data points). Firstly, two models were used to calculate values for the erythemal ultraviolet irradiance clearness index (KtUVER) as a function of the global irradiance clearness index (Kt). Secondly, a potential regression model to measure the KtUVER as a function of the relative optical air mass was studied. The coefficients of this regression were evaluated for clear and cloudy days, as well as for days with high and low ozone levels…

Sexual satisfaction in male infertility.

1999

Infertility is proposed to be a continuing stressor for couples suffering from involuntary childlessness. A long duration of the desire for a child and, correspondingly, a longer period of diagnostic and treatment procedures could have a negative impact on sexual satisfaction, thus leading to an unfavorable psychological circuit. The present evaluation should clarify the state of sexual satisfaction and relationships, with relevant parameters in 68 men with fertility problems, of couples with involuntary childlessness. Subjects reported relatively high average levels of present sexual satisfaction with only nonsignificant lower scores (p = .08) compared to recalled sexual satisfaction prior…
