A marching-on in time meshless kernel based solver for full-wave electromagnetic simulation

2012

A meshless particle method based on an unconditionally stable time domain numerical scheme, oriented to electromagnetic transient simulations, is presented. The proposed scheme improves the smoothed particle electromagnetics method, already developed by the authors. The time stepping is approached by using the alternating directions implicit finite difference scheme, in a leapfrog way. The proposed formulation is used in order to efficiently overcome the stability relation constraint of explicit schemes. In fact, due to this constraint, large time steps cannot be used with small space steps and vice-versa. The same stability relation holds when the meshless formulation is applied together w…

Disentangling Sources of Gene Tree Discordance in Phylogenomic Data Sets: Testing Ancient Hybridizations in Amaranthaceae s.l.

2019

AbstractGene tree discordance in large genomic data sets can be caused by evolutionary processes such as incomplete lineage sorting and hybridization, as well as model violation, and errors in data processing, orthology inference, and gene tree estimation. Species tree methods that identify and accommodate all sources of conflict are not available, but a combination of multiple approaches can help tease apart alternative sources of conflict. Here, using a phylotranscriptomic analysis in combination with reference genomes, we test a hypothesis of ancient hybridization events within the plant family Amaranthaceae s.l. that was previously supported by morphological, ecological, and Sanger-base…

Mast Cells and Th17 Cells Contribute to the Lymphoma-Associated Pro-Inflammatory Microenvironment of Angioimmunoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma

2010

Reports focusing on the immunological microenvironment of peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCL) are rare. Here we studied the reciprocal contribution of regulatory (Treg) and interleukin-17-producing (Th17) T-cells to the composition of the lymphoma-associated microenvironment of angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) and PTCL not otherwise specified on tissue microarrays from 30 PTCLs not otherwise specified and 37 AITLs. We found that Th17 but not Treg cells were differently represented in the two lymphomas and correlated with the amount of mast cells (MCs) and granulocytes, which preferentially occurred in the cellular milieu of AITL cases. We observed that MCs directly synthesized inter…

Comparison and multiresolution analysis of irregular meshes with appearance attributes

2004

We present in this dissertation a method to compare and to analyse irregular meshes with appearance attributes. First, we propose a mesh comparison method using a new attribute deviation metric. Considered meshes contain geometric and appearance attributes (e.g. color, texture, temperature). The proposed deviation assessment allows the computation of local attribute differences between two meshes. We present an application of this method to mesh simplification algorithm quality assessment. Then we propose two multiresolution analysis schemes for irregular meshes with appearance attributes. First, a mesh is decomposed in a discret number of levels of detail. We introduce a surface geometry rel…

Energy dissipative solutions to the Kobayashi-Warren-Carter system

2017

In this paper we study a variational system of two parabolic PDEs, called the Kobayashi-Warren-Carter system, which models the grain boundary motion in a polycrystal. The focus of the study is the existence of solutions to this system which dissipate the associated energy functional. We obtain existence of this type of solutions via a suitable approximation of the energy functional with Laplacians and an extra regularization of the weighted total variation term of the energy. As a byproduct of this result, we also prove some $\Gamma$-convergence results concerning weighted total variations and the corresponding time-dependent cases. Finally, the regularity obtained for the solutions togethe…

Hölder stability for Serrin’s overdetermined problem

2015

In a bounded domain \(\varOmega \), we consider a positive solution of the problem \(\Delta u+f(u)=0\) in \(\varOmega \), \(u=0\) on \(\partial \varOmega \), where \(f:\mathbb {R}\rightarrow \mathbb {R}\) is a locally Lipschitz continuous function. Under sufficient conditions on \(\varOmega \) (for instance, if \(\varOmega \) is convex), we show that \(\partial \varOmega \) is contained in a spherical annulus of radii \(r_i 0\) and \(\tau \in (0,1]\). Here, \([u_\nu ]_{\partial \varOmega }\) is the Lipschitz seminorm on \(\partial \varOmega \) of the normal derivative of u. This result improves to Holder stability the logarithmic estimate obtained in Aftalion et al. (Adv Differ Equ 4:907–93…

Refitting Solutions Promoted by $$\ell _{12}$$ Sparse Analysis Regularizations with Block Penalties

2019

International audience; In inverse problems, the use of an l(12) analysis regularizer induces a bias in the estimated solution. We propose a general refitting framework for removing this artifact while keeping information of interest contained in the biased solution. This is done through the use of refitting block penalties that only act on the co-support of the estimation. Based on an analysis of related works in the literature, we propose a new penalty that is well suited for refitting purposes. We also present an efficient algorithmic method to obtain the refitted solution along with the original (biased) solution for any convex refitting block penalty. Experiments illustrate the good be…

Search for patterns by combining cosmic-ray energy and arrival directions at the Pierre Auger Observatory

2015

Energy-dependent patterns in the arrival directions of cosmic rays are searched for using data of the Pierre Auger Observatory. We investigate local regions around the highest-energy cosmic rays with E ≥ 6×1019 eV by analyzing cosmic rays with energies above E ≥ 5×1018 eV arriving within an angular separation of approximately 15∘. We characterize the energy distributions inside these regions by two independent methods, one searching for angular dependence of energy-energy correlations and one searching for collimation of energy along the local system of principal axes of the energy distribution. No significant patterns are found with this analysis. The comparison of these measurements with …

Regularization of spherical and axisymmetric evolution codes in numerical relativity

2007

Several interesting astrophysical phenomena are symmetric with respect to the rotation axis, like the head-on collision of compact bodies, the collapse and/or accretion of fields with a large variety of geometries, or some forms of gravitational waves. Most current numerical relativity codes, however, can not take advantage of these symmetries due to the fact that singularities in the adapted coordinates, either at the origin or at the axis of symmetry, rapidly cause the simulation to crash. Because of this regularity problem it has become common practice to use full-blown Cartesian three-dimensional codes to simulate axi-symmetric systems. In this work we follow a recent idea idea of Rinne…
