The contribution uses the theoretical model of Nicolas Bourriaud's Relational Aesthetics to understand the dynamics of communication that are used and experienced on social networks.
Conceptualization of relative size by honeybees
2014
The ability to process visual information using relational rules allows for decisions independent of the specific physical attributes of individual stimuli. Until recently, the manipulation of relational concepts was considered as a prerogative of large mammalian brains. Here we show that individual free flying honeybees can learn to use size relationship rules to choose either the larger or smaller stimulus as the correct solution in a given context, and subsequently apply the learnt rule to novel colors and shapes providing that there is sufficient input to the long wavelength (green) photoreceptor channel. Our results add a novel, size-based conceptual rule to the set of relational conce…
Forecast of Study Success in the STEM Disciplines Based Solely on Academic Records
2020
We present an approach to the forecast of the study success in selected STEM disciplines (computer science, mathematics, physics, and meteorology), solely based on the academic record of a student so far, without access to demographic or socioeconomic data. The purpose of the analysis is to improve student counseling, which may be essential for finishing a study program in one of the above mentioned fields. Technically, we show the successful use of propositionalization on relational data from educational data mining, based on standard aggregates and basic LSTM-trained aggregates.

A Joint Reading of Positional and Relational Goods
2012
Both relational and positional goods are based upon an idea of joint consumption – though with opposite signs. Indeed, in both cases, individuals’ consumption choices take into account not only the individuals themselves, but others, as well. Given that relational goods provide a form of identity to their consumers, we show that a certain degree of positionality emerges within the consumption of relational goods. Analogously, except in a two-agent context, each positional good also has a relational component. What emerges is a complex structure of economic outcomes based on both relational and positional motives.
Relational Goods: Costs and Effectiveness
2003
Our society has undergone a great technological evolution but insufficient development about the psychic and relational maturity. In this article we affirm that group analysis and the clinical group can give a great contribution to the development of relational goods. These relational goods can become the great political objective for humanity in the third millennium. Furthermore, we believe that a therapeutic and systematic treatment can be useful in terms of costs and effectiveness.
Generalization of novel names for relations in comparison settings: the role of conceptual distance during learning and at test
2018
International audience; Relational categories are notoriously difficult to learn. We studied the impact of comparison on relational concept learning with a novel word learning task in 3- and 4-year olds. We contrasted a no-comparison (single) condition and two comparison conditions. In the latter case, the set of learning pairs was composed of either close or far pairs (e.g., close pair: knife1- watermelon, knife2-orange; far pair: ax-evergreen tree, saw-log, for the “cutter for” relation). We also manipulated the transfer stimuli semantic distance (near or distant semantic domain, e.g., a scissor for a piece of paper in the close case, and a shaver for a face in the far domain case). The n…
Who is entitled for the recognition of public right in the urban domain? A perspective from the southern Italian context
2015
Who has the right of access to public space of the city and what are the limits to this access varies depending on the circumstances: the shift between the public and private sphere, the economic- institutional system, laws and planning tools. If many scholars focus on relational values of public/political spaces, the sphere of public facilities is a central issue. In Italy this issue is ruled by an ancient national law, aimed at ensuring minimum collective rights, the so-called urban standards as mandatory quantity of areas to locate within the municipal plans. Although many regions of Northern Italy have satisfied and raised this standard, the southern areas remain in a situation of sever…
Diritto d’asilo. Accessibilità e riciclo dell’ex Asilo Biondo a Danisinni, Palermo
2022
There are many virtuous initiatives, national and international, which, starting from school buildings, have aimed at redeveloping some degraded urban spaces through paths aimed at increasing civic sense and social and environmental sensitivity in pupils, parents and citizens. . Reopening schools in neighborhoods characterized by a high school dropout was the goal of the research aimed at making accessible the paths and spaces in school buildings and starting urban and architectural recycling projects in waiting places. The research thus proposed field work in opposition to an ongoing process carried out by the municipal administration of Palermo which identified precisely in obsolete or ab…
