Stochastic Analysis of a Nonlocal Fractional Viscoelastic Bar Forced by Gaussian White Noise
2017
Recently, a displacement-based nonlocal bar model has been developed. The model is based on the assumption that nonlocal forces can be modeled as viscoelastic (VE) long-range interactions mutually exerted by nonadjacent bar segments due to their relative motion; the classical local stress resultants are also present in the model. A finite element (FE) formulation with closed-form expressions of the elastic and viscoelastic matrices has also been obtained. Specifically, Caputo's fractional derivative has been used in order to model viscoelastic long-range interaction. The static and quasi-static response has been already investigated. This work investigates the stochastic response of the non…
Status of delayed-neutron precursor data: half-lives and neutron emission probabilities
2002
Abstract We present in this paper a compilation of the present status of experimental delayed-neutron precursor data; i.e. β-decay half-lives ( T 1/2 ) and neutron emission probabilities ( P n ) in the fission-product region (27 ≤ Z ≤ 57). These data are compared to two model predictions of substantially different sophistication: (i) an update of the empirical Kratz-Herrmann formula (KHF), and (ii) a unified macroscopic-microscopic model within the quasi-particle random-phase approximation (QRPA). Both models are also used to calculate so far unknown T 1/2 and P n values up to Z = 63. A number of possible refinements in the microscopic calculations are suggested to further improve the nucle…
Radiation quality discrimination by continuous and pulse ESR techniques
2008
The biological damages produced by ionizing radiations in tissues and cells depend on the radiation quality, besides on the dose. The discrimination of the radiation quality, which is related to the linear energy transfer (LET), interests various fields such as radiobiology, astronautic space research, radiotherapy research and accidental dosimetry. In this work we have applied continuous wave ESR (cw-ESR) and pulse ESR techniques to ammonium tartrate samples with the aim of developing procedures able to discriminate radiation quality whose knowledge is fundamental for rabiobiological considerations. We have chosen the ammonium tartrate because it is a promising compound for the measurement…
Chile helps Chile: exploring the effects of earthquake Chile 2010
2014
Purpose– The purpose of the present paper is to explore the political discourse present in the show Chile Ayuda a Chile [Chile helps Chile] to support the survivors and victims of the last earthquake hit Chile in 2010. Based on the belief that nationalism plays a vital role in cementing the process of recovery by making survivors believe that they, after all, have a new opportunity to be on feet again.Design/methodology/approach– The visual methodology (enrooted in the analysis of content) is the chosen technique to develop five indicators which replicates the nationalist sentiment of Chileans post-disaster context. The archetype of nationalism is activated whenever the community is in dang…
The Olt River pollution monitoring, using spatial analysis, analityc hierarchy process and technique for order preference by similarity methods
2016
Abstract Environmental pollution is one of the most serious problems of the contemporary world. Chemical industry is one of the major sources of environmental pollutants. Human knowledge and experience is currently focused on the use of assessment methods and techniques before and during the onset of such activities. For instance, it is common to consider the integration of multiple constraining factors and also, taking into account their high complexity and the application of one of the various techniques of Multi-Criteria Decision Making. The purpose of this study is to determine the location of the least and most polluted areas from several sampling points on the Olt River, in Romania. I…
Can crumb rubber modifier effectively replace the use of polymer- modified bitumen in asphalt mixture?
2021
Laboratory scale mechanical performances on six plant produced mixtures; three semi-dense surface courses and three dense binder courses modified with engineered crumb rubber (ECR) using the dry process are presented. The two types of mixtures produced and investigated fulfilled for the most part, the requirements of the Swiss and/or US standards regarding volumetric properties, water sensitivity and rutting. In advanced testing where no requirements exist, the dense ECR mixtures performed similar to the reference polymer modified mixtures and slightly worse for semi-dense mixtures in high temperature tests, where the binder becomes viscous in the rubber-binder composite and its ability to …
Novel Computational Method for Harmonic Mitigation for Three-phase Five-level Cascaded H-Bridge Inverter
2018
The efficiency of the system is a very important parameter for high power electrical drives applications,. Moreover, in the system the efficiency of the power converter play a fundamental role and for this reason, the soft switching modulation techniques represent the best choice. This paper presents a novel computational method for harmonic mitigation on the output voltage of a five-level, three-phase Cascaded H-Bridge Inverter without solving non-linear equations. Through this simple approach the Working Areas have been identified in which the harmonics reference have minimum amplitude possible. Moreover, polynomial equations to evaluate the control angels have been found. In this way, th…
Treatment of high strength industrial wastewater with membrane bioreactors for water reuse: Effect of pre-treatment with aerobic granular sludge on s…
2019
Abstract In this study, the treatment of citrus wastewater with membrane bioreactors (MBRs) under different configurations was investigated for water reuse. In particular, one MBR and one aerobic granular sludge MBR (AGS + MBR) bench scale plants were operated for 60 days. The experimental campaign was divided into two periods. In Phase I, a conventional hollow fiber MBR was employed for the treatment of the raw high strength wastewater, whereas in Phase II a combination of in-series reactors (AGS + MBR) was adopted for the treatment of the high strength citrus wastewater The results demonstrated that both plant configurations enabled very high COD removal, with average values close to 99%.…
A questionnaire to assess parental perception of barriers towards active commuting to school (PABACS): Reliability and validity
2019
Abstract Introduction Parental barriers are a key factor to determine physical activity behaviors, such as active commuting to school in young people. The purpose of this study was to test the reliability and validity of a questionnaire which addresses parental barriers towards active commuting to school. Methods This paper describes the development, following the Delphi method, and the validation of a Likert-scale questionnaire of 23 items (Parental Perception of Barriers towards Active Commuting to School (PABACS)) designed to determine the main parental barriers. These barriers are categorized into 3 scales (general, walking, and cycling barriers) and the overall questionnaire. A total o…
Comparison between Different Dynamic Reconfigurations of Electrical Connections for partially shaded PV Modules
2018
This paper presents an economical investigation on the benefits related to the employment of reconfiguration systems for photovoltaic plants. More in detail, different structures of reconfigurators are proposed and, in order to evaluate the economical convenience on their installation, the Net Present Value is used as a validation element. Significant results are carried out from the proposed analysis.
