The Early Stages: Pre-1910
2017
The chapter gives an account of the roots of the modern ecumenical movement, of the latter’s social and ecclesial context, and of its first organizational manifestations leading up to the World Missionary Conference in Edinburgh 1910. This predominantly Protestant movement developed in a setting marked by the climax of modernity and increasing secularization in northern societies, colonization and missionary enterprises in the south, polarization in theology, and denominationalism in church life. It drew from diverse sources, such as the YMCA/YWCA, the WSCF, the Evangelical Alliance and the missionary movement, and from the commitment of individuals such as John R. Mott. Its key aim was to …
Satyra na Augusta Zaleskiego czyli o sporze Wojciecha Wasiutyńskiego z „Syreną” paryską
2017
A SATIRE ON AUGUST ZALESKI, I.E. ON THE CONFLICT BETWEEN WOJCIECH WASIUTYŃŚKI AND THE PARISIAN SYRENA In 1949 the Parisian weekly Syrena published an anonymous satire on President August Zaleski. As it later turned out, it was written by Wojciech Wasiutynski, a well-known journalist and activist of the Stronnictwo Narodowe (National Party). Wasiutynski was not informed about the decision to publish his text and was outraged, demanding compensation. The editorial team explained that the anonymous copies of the satire had circulated among Polish immigrants. The issue echoed a far more significant debate concerning the office of the President of Poland in exile.
The Claretian Community: The Exit Profile of Students at the Claret School of Barcelona
2022
This paper provides an analysis of the exit profile of a student who completes their studies at the Claret School of Barcelona, a primary and secondary educational institution belonging to the Claretian Community in Spain. The Claret School of Barcelona is a center that is partially funded by the government, however, all students must pay tuition. The final two grades at the school, that is the baccalaureate years, are private and receive no public funding. During a five-year period (2014-2019), a group of teachers from both the primary and secondary schools, along with the management team and external psycho-pedagogical advisors with expertise in educational innovation, undertook a project…
Religious literacy or spiritual awareness? Comparative critique of Andrew Wright’s and David Hay’s approaches to spiritual education
2009
On the basis of a comparison of the educational approaches of Andrew Wright and David Hay this paper illustrates the persisting problem of dichotomising cognitive and trans‐cognitive aspects of spiritual development and education. Even though both Wright and Hay speak of the same topic – spirituality and spiritual education – they define these terms very differently, and as a consequence, they draw altogether different practical implications, set different priorities, and warn of different dangers in spiritual education. The main question set in this paper is whether it is possible to make room in spiritual education for both of these perspectives and how to combine them in a more holistic …

Fabriquer un culte ethnique. Écriture rituelle et généalogies mythiques dans le sanctuaire des Paliques en Sicile.
2013
The sanctuary of the gods Palikoi in Sicily offers a rich dossier addressing the role of writing in the definition of ethnicity. Although literary evidence attest to the ”native“ nature of the gods, the presence of writing, inbedded in local culture through the Greek colonization, plays a curious role. It invites us to reflect upon contact processes and identity changes due to its appearance. The analysis focuses here on the ordeal oath (ritual writing) and on the mythical genealogies (discursive strategies): this set seems to be a "device" in many ways informed by the model of the "Middle Ground."
2014
My Docthoral Thesis carried out with religious subjects from different creeds and with non religious individuals found that participation in collective funerary rites and in private rituals –religious or secular - allow the mourners to say good bye and accept the death of their deceased loved ones (Paez et al., 2007)..Funerals and bereavement rituals allow the symbolic expression of feelings and thoughts, assist the mourners to cope with loss, and promote their recovery from bereavement (Pargament, 1997; Yoffe, 2012c.).
