Although a benign simple cyst is usually easy to recognize, the same is not true for complex and multifocal cystic renal lesions, whose differential diagnosis includes both neoplastic and non-neoplastic conditions. In this review, we will show a series of cases in order to provide tips to identify benign cysts and differentiate them from malignant ones.

We reported the case of a 35-y-old man with renal cell carcinoma and cold lesions detected by bone scintigraphy, related to metastatic involvement. Conventional X-Ray did not show any pathological findings, being confirmed by axial computed tomography (CT) the scintigraphic bone lesions. We have accomplished a discussion of the role of bone scintigraphy and complementary techniques (radiography, alkaline phosphatase levels) in the diagnosis of bone metastases in renal cell carcinoma.

The prognostic potential of the parameters TNM staging, Robson staging, grading, cell type, growth pattern, and patient age was investigated for 431 patients with operated renal cell carcinoma (RCC). In the individual analyses, staging and grading attained the best results, whereby Robson staging proved to be superior to TNM staging by comparison. Morphological parameters had a more modest effect on the prognosis, but this should not be underestimated. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a cytokine with pleiotropic biologic activities on B cells, T cells, and hematopoietic progenitors. The present study was undertaken to assess pharmacodynamic effects of subcutaneous administration of IL-6 on blood counts, immunologic parameters, and acute-phase reactants.
