The 1946 production of The Fairy Queen in Covent Garden: 'A Triumph of British music and Stagecraft'?

The 1946 production of Henry Purcell's Fairy Queen in Covent Garden was staged to mark the beginning of a new musical era. It was based on the unity of music, ballet and design, the symbol of an ideal social cohesion notably fostered by state patronage, and the partnership between Constant Lambert, Michael Ayrton and Frédérick Ashton was informed by the aesthetic agenda of the Romantic Moderns. However the failure to convey a successful sense of harmony reflects the tensions inherent to this transitional period.

Maģistra darba mērķis bija izpētīt sirds asinsvadu slimību ārstēšanai biežāk pielietotos beta – adrenoblokatorus, izpētīt to vispārējo patēriņu Latvijā un veikt salīdzinājumu ar Lietuvu un Igauniju. Maģistra darba uzdevums bija izanalizēt zāļu patēriņa statistiku, un salīdzināt iegūto informāciju ar aptiekas un ārstu aptaujas rezultātiem. Maģistra darba pētījuma rezultāti liecina, ka beta – adrenoblokarotu lietošana 2010.- 2014.gadā ir pieaugusi ne tikai Latvijā, bet arī Lietuvā un Igaunijā, ar stabilu tendenci turpināt pieaugt. Latvijā visbiežākais patēriņš ir kardioselektīvajam beta – adrenoblokatoram - bisoprololam, kam ir augsta selektivitāte, maz blakusparādību, gandrīz pilnībā uzsūcas…

Poliprenoli (PP) ir vitāli svarīgi komponenti dzīvo organismu šūnās, tiem piemīt hepatoprotektīva, pretvīrusa, imūnmodulējoša un holesterīna pazeminoša iedarbība (Vais et al., 2012; Safatov et al., 2000; Pronin et al., 2013;). Ir maz pētīts par to ietekmi uz CNS funkcijām, atsevišķi dati liecina ka PP uzlabo kognitīvās funkcijas Alcheimera slimības (AD) žurku modelī (Fedotova et al., 2010; Wang et al., 2014). PP piemīt arī antioksidatīvā iedarbība (Bizzarri et al., 2003) , tāpēc tas liek domāt, ka PP var pasargāt no stresa negatīvās ietekmes uz kognitīvām funkcijām. Heat production of frogs under normoxic and hypoxic conditions: A microcalorimetric study using a gas flow system

Abstract Heat production of male frogs, Rana temporaria , was measured in a microcalorimeter through which a continuous flow of gas was passed in order to generate constant normoxic, hypoxic or anoxic conditions. The normoxic heat flow was 163 ± 37 μ W g body weight in frogs that had not been treated with curare and 149 ± 69 μ W g in animals immobilized with curare. During anoxia, frogs, whether curarized or not, decreased their heat production to about 25% of the respective normoxic control. In graded hypoxia (10% to 3% O 2 ), curarized frogs decreased their heat rate according to the grade of hypoxia they were subjected to.

The chloroplast ultrastructure ofMonoraphidium griffithii (Berkel.) Komar.-Legner. has been studied in axenic cultures of various ages. The algae have grown in a complete nutrient solution (illumination about 3,000 lx) and on its agar medium (illumination about 600 lx). The large parietal cup-shaped chloroplast of the cells includes a multiformed compound internal pyrenoid that is situated, especially in older cells, in the central part of the chloroplast opposite to the dictyosome and the nucleus. A-ring annulated heterocycles, the isoxazole 6, the pyrazoles 8 and the pyrimidines 9 are prepared starting from 2-hydroxymethylene canrenone 1. Binding studies were carried out with the compounds 1 and 6-8 using estrogen, progesterone, androgen, gluco- and mineralocorticoid receptors as well as the serum proteins SHBG and CBG: the substances were inactive on the receptor level. 1, 7 and 8a show weak binding affinity to CBG.

Abstract In reversed-phase liquid chromatography, the performance for basic compounds is affected by the interaction of the protonated (cationic) species with the anionic free silanols on the alkyl-bonded stationary phases. Using aqueous-organic mobile phases in the absence of additives, the retention may be too high, and the peaks be broad and asymmetric. The performance is improved by addition to the mobile phase of ionic liquids, from which 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([C6MIm][Cl]) has especially good characteristics.
