Intraoperative Evaluation of the Reconstruction of the Atrioventricular Valves by Means of Transesophageal Echocardiography

1989

In 44 operations, the mitral valve was reconstructed in 28 patients, the tricuspid valve in 12, and both atrioventricular (AV) valves in four. The results of reconstruction were tested first in the open arrested heart by injection of a crystalloid solution into the left or right ventricle, either through the reconstructed valve or via one of the great arteries. Upon termination of cardiopulmonary bypass the valve function was examined in the beating heart by transesophageal contrast echocardiography (TEE). For purposes of visualization, 0.5–1.0 cc of agitated Gelifundol was injected into the ventricle. In 31 patients, open testing and echocardiographic visualization showed identical, good o…

A Formal Model for Developing of the self-Diagosing and Self-Repairing 8-Bits Microprocessor, and Its Investigation Using Simulation

1986

Abstract The complete model of functional diagnostics is theoretically described. It specifies the conditions, which must be satisfied if the system to be self-diagnosable. The general principles of constructing self-diagnosable systems are enumerated. The model enables the realization of self-renewal, too. The model has been developed on the basis of the works by Preparata, Metze, Chien (1967) and Hakimi, Amin (1974) . The model contains a method of diagnostics completely separeted from the physical structure of the system. Recent results (Gruber, 1978; Swiatek, 1982) indicate that it is only necessary to know the set of transformations realized by the circuit. The model has been applied t…

Biomaterials in periapical regeneration after microsurgical endodontics: A narrative review

2021

Background: The objective of this narrative review was to analyze the available scientific evidence regarding the application of biomaterials in endodontic microsurgery and its influence in post-surgical tissue repair. Material and Methods: The review question was Do biomaterials used in endodontic microsurgery influence post-surgical tissue repair and regeneration? Systematic MEDLINE/PubMed review was used to evaluate and present the results. Results: The search yielded 131 references, 82 of which were selected for full text review after reading the abstracts. After a manual search in the references of the articles selected, 52 references were eliminated. Finally, 30 articles were selected…

Synthesis of 131I-labeled glucose-conjugated inhibitors of O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) and comparison with nonconjugated inhibitors…

2006

O 6 -Substituted guanine derivatives are powerful agents used for tumor cell sensitization by inhibition of the DNA repair enzyme O 6 -methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT). To provide targeted accumulation of MGMT inhibitors in tumor tissue as well as tools for in vivo imaging, we synthesized iodinated C 8 -alkyl-linked glucose conjugates of 2-amino-6-(5-iodothenyl)-9H-purine (O 6 -(5-iodothenyl) guanine, ITG) and 2-amino-6-(3-iodobenzyloxy)-9H-purine (O 6 -(5-iodobenzyl) guanine, IBG). These compounds have MGMT inhibitor constants (IC 5 0 values) of 0.8 and 0.45 μM for ITGG and IBGG, respectively, as determined in HeLa S3 cells after 2-h incubation with inhibitor. To substantiate tha…

Variability of shell repair in the Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum affected by the Brown Ring Disease: A microstructural and biochemical study

2011

11 pages; International audience; For more than two decades, the Manila clam Ruditapes philippinarum has been regularly affected by Brown Ring Disease (BRD), an epizootic event caused by the bacterium Vibrio tapetis and characterized by the development of a brown deposit on the inner face of valves. Although BRD infection is often lethal, some clams recover by mineralizing a new repair shell layer, which covers the brown deposit and fully isolates it from living tissues. In order to understand this specific shell repair process, the microstructures of repaired zones were compared to those of shells unaffected by BRD. In addition, the organic matrix associated with unaffected shells and to r…

Preparation and Application of an Innovative Thrombocyte/Leukocyte-Enriched Plasma to Promote Tissue Repair in Chelonians

2015

Platelet concentrates are widely used in mammalian regenerative medicine to improve tissue healing. Chelonians (Testudines) would benefit from the application of thrombocyte preparations to regenerate damaged tissues, since traumatic injuries are leading causes of morbidity and mortality for both wild-living and domesticated animals. The aim of this study was to establish a protocol that optimized the recovery of the thrombocytes from blood samples and to show the efficacy of thrombocyte-enriched plasma in chelonians. Peripheral blood samples were obtained from Testudo spp. (n = 12) and Trachemys scripta elegans (n = 10). Blood cells were fractionated by sodium diatrizoate-sodium polysucros…

Mortality of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm with selective use of endovascular repair

2009

The aim of this review was to examine the results over a seven-year period of treatment for ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm (RAAA). From 2002 on, our tertiary referral centre offered both open and endovascular (EVAR) treatment modalities for RAAA. All patients with a proven RAAA who were admitted into our hospital were included. Primary outcome measure was surgical mortality. In total 261 patients were admitted with suspicion of acute AAA. Of these, 175 (67%) had a RAAA, confirmed by computed tomography-scanning or at laparotomy. One hundred and fifty-nine patients (90.9%) were treated, 114 by open repair and 45 by EVAR. Overall mortality of patients treated was 25.2%, with an open repai…

Preoperative preparation of «loss of domain» hernia. Progressive pneumoperitoneum and botulinum toxin type A.

2017

Preoperative progressive pneumoperitoneum and botulinum toxin type A are useful tools in the preparation of patients with loss of domain hernias. Both procedures are complementary in the surgical repair, especially with the use of prosthetic techniques without tension, that allow a integral management of these patients. The aim of this paper is to update concepts related to both procedures, emphasizing the advantages that take place in the preoperative management of loss of domain hernias.
