A submonoid M generated by k elements of A∗ is k-maximal if there does not exist another submonoid generated by at most k words containing M. We call a set X⊆ A∗ primitive if it is the basis of a |X|-maximal submonoid. This extends the notion of primitive word: indeed, w is a primitive set if and only if w is a primitive word. How long does it take to earn a higher education degree in Spain ?

International audience; The purpose of this paper is to identify the main determinants of time-to-degree in higher education. Our results use retrospective data on the full cohort of first-time entering students who embarked on short and long programs from one university in Spain and who were observed over an 8-year period ending in 2004. The descriptive analyses show that less than 40 percent of degree recipients are able to graduate within the minimum period of time. Duration models are estimated for different types of programs. Las personas homosexuales y bisexuales constituyen un colectivo sobre el que se ejerce violencia. Este estudio analiza la prevalencia e influencia que ejerce la violencia homofóbica sufrida a lo largo de la vida sobre la sintomatología depresiva y el nivel de autoestima. La muestra está compuesta por 730 personas homosexuales o bisexuales con edades comprendidas entre los 18 y los 60 años (M = 28.47; DT = 8.81). Los resultados indican que entre el 29.6% y 76.7% ha recibido violencia psicológica o verbal y entre el 4.2% y el 19.6% ha sufrido violencia física a lo largo de su vida. Determining the factors that modulate the early access of abstract lexical representations is imperative for the formulation of a comprehensive neural account of visual-word identification. There is a current debate on whether the effects of case alternation (e.g., tRaIn vs. train) have an early or late locus in the word-processing stream. Here we report a lexical decision experiment using a technique that taps the early stages of visual-word recognition (i.e., masked priming). In this chapter I argue for a refinement of the classic SFL approach to lexical cohesion. First, a literature overview is provided in which key principles and related categories are examined. In addition, the connection of cohesion and discourse co-herence is addressed and an overview is provided of the wide range of applications that the former has in such fields as genre studies, language teaching and learning, psycholinguistics and computational linguistics, among others. Abstract Readers of the Roman script must “unlearn” some forms of mirror generalization when processing printed stimuli (i.e., herb and herd are different words). Here we examine whether the suppression of mirror generalization is a process that affects all letters or whether it mostly affects reversible letters (i.e., b / d ). Three masked priming lexical decision experiments were conducted to examine how the cognitive system processes mirror images of reversible vs. non-reversible letters embedded in Spanish words.
