Many cancer patients use integrative therapies with a combination of natural products and diets. In the Western world, integrative medicine is often not shared with oncologists even during antineoplastic treatments. This behavior stems from the unmet needs of cancer patients who may feel oncologists’ underestimation of their symptoms and spiritual aspects. The Role of Medicinal Mushrooms in Brain Cancer Therapies: Review.

Medicinal mushrooms are considered an unlimited source of polysaccharides (mainly β-glucans) and polysaccharide-protein complexes and possess various immunological and anticancer properties. In addition, their use in integrative medicine leads to a clear reduction of side effects in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The literature reports a number of beneficial effects of using mushrooms as health supplements in patients affected by high-grade glioma. The effects of medicinal mushrooms on side effects in patients with brain cancer and a case study report are also described in this review.

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) is the most common entity of mature T-cell neoplasms. PTCL-NOS generally has an aggressive behavior and is often refractory to standard therapy. Only a few cases of PTCL with aberrant expression of B-cell antigens have been reported so far. This phenotypic aberrancy may lead to misdiagnosis as B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphomas and eventual inappropriate patient management, whereas in an accurately diagnosed PTCL, the presence of CD20 may appear as an appealing therapeutic target. The BABAR detector operated successfully at the PEP-Il asymmetric e(+) e(-) collider at the SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory from 1999 to 2008. This report covers upgrades, operation, and performance of the collider and the detector systems, as well as the trigger, online and offline computing, and aspects of event reconstruction since the beginning of data taking.

Rakstā aplūkota Open Access kustība kā iespēja publicēties bez finansiāliem, tiesiskiem vai tehniskiem ierobežojumiem. Autori raksturo Open Access kustības attīstību Latvijā no 2009. līdz 2013. gadam. Šajā laika posmā Latvijas Universitātes Bibliotēka devusi lielu ieguldījumu zinātnieku informēšanā par Open Access iniciatīvām, organizējot lekcijas, diskusijas, sniedzot konsultācijas un sagatavojot informatīvos materiālus. Pēc LU Bibliotēkas iniciatīvas tika izveidots institucionālais LU e-resursu repozitārijs kas ir kā pilotprojekts turpmākajai repozitāriju izveidei un attīstībai Latvijā.
