Harry Francis Mallgrave. L'empatia degli spazi. Architettura e neuroscienze
2015
Information we can acquire on the multiple aspect of reality passes through sensory perception that our body has of the outside. The relationship between body and architecture is the central topic of …
Graphic reflections to safeguard the architecture. In the Thermoelectric Power Plant of Giuseppe Samonà,…
Les non-publics de la culture. Une approche ethnographique de situations de réception demi-contraintes
2013
Photographic exhibitions are organized today "outdoor"; I study the "non-public" (Ancel & Pessin, 2004): the absents. What are the factors hindering the encounter with the works despite their urban exposure? The article attempts to study the performances of culture that are forged by the respondents (migrants from the lower classes) during outings organized by community centers or municipal associations. To understand why photographic exhibitions fail to mobilize some, I observe in fact that the last prefer other cultural events. Using two case studies (a contemporary dance show, a play), I show that the contact of some actors with culture lead to misunderstandings or misconceptions that me…
Intentionality of the Design Through the Redesign: Albanese House by Leone and Culotta
2020
Albanian house was designed in 1982 and takes its name from the one who commissioned the project from the studio of Culotta and Leone. The achievements of the study were studied, focusing in particular on the various projects related to single-family houses. Given the technological characteristics of the project, an analysis of the international context was also necessary, in particular the suggestions of the shingle style cottages were studied. In addition, the construction technology underlying the project, or the balloon frame, typical of the US context, was also studied. The project shows great attention to the exhibition, and to the relationship between inside and outside. The whole pr…
El papel de las mujeres en la historia según las imágenes de los libros de texto. Comparación de manuales editados durante la LOE y la LOMCE
2016
This paper focuses on the study of the role of women and its representation in the images of the textbooks of Environmental Knowledge and Social Sciences subjects, specifically in History topics. Textbooks can give us an overview of how women are presented in the historical discourse carried from Primary Education, and through their analysis we can see if it has or not an androcentric bias. Therefrom it’s developed an analysis and a comparison of the data between volumes of both last education laws implemented in Spain (LOE and LOMCE).
Representations of individuals in discourses of laïcité from Le Monde : confirming or challenging the republican framework of identity?
2017
In recent decades, the notions of laïcité and identity have been subjects of controversy in France. The two concepts have become sufficiently co-associated since the 1990s to ensure each almost systematically entails the other. Findings from previous studies have pointed out harmful implications of this pervasive association for minorities in France, especially Muslims. This study examines further the ways laïcité and identity are interwoven by exploring who is represented (and how) in newspaper articles from Le Monde dealing with laïcité. Informed by critical intercultural communication scholarship, intersectionality, and a Foucaultian approach to discourse, this study pays particular atte…
A cultural analysis of the visual signs in the Zapatistas websites
2012
A political movement initiated in Mexico known as Zapatism is analysed through the visual objects displayed in their websites on the Internet. The objective is to make a cultural analysis and interpretation of the visual representation of Zapatistas websites, to expose their visual identity through the most salient visual signs and their corresponding cultural meanings. The analytical method introduced in this study is divided in three major aims: consolidating a pool of images retrieved from Zapatistas websites, finding patterns of visual elements within these images, and providing an interpretation for the visual signs emerging from such patterns. In the analysis, three images emerged as …

Inkeriläiset ja heidän suomen taitonsa mediassa
2018
This is a study on Ingrians in Finnish media. Ingrians are ethnic Finns who have been living in Russia for many generations. In order to immigrate to Finland on the basis of Finnish origin they had to prove Finnish language skills. The Ingrians’ language exam was designed to test if the residence permit applicant is at A2 level in Finnish. In this article I analyze how Ingrians’ migration to Finland is discussed in newspapers. The focus is in beliefs: I compare the objectives set in 2003 when the exam was launched to the outcomes described in media in 2015–2017 when immigration on the basis of Ingrian background was ending. The data shows that media repeats successful stories of Ingrians’ i…
