Development and validation of the Brief Parental Burnout Scale (BPBS).

Since parental burnout can have detrimental consequences for parents, couples, and children, easy-to-use, reliable, and valid practical tools for the early detection of parental burnout are required. We developed and validated a brief scale to identify burned-out parents and parents at burnout risk. In Study 1, we developed the 5-item Brief Parental Burnout scale (BPBs) based on the gold standard measure of parental burnout, the Parental Burnout Assessment (PBA). Quantification of vesicles in differentiating human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells by automated image analysis

A new automated image analysis method for quantification of fluorescent dots is presented. This method facilitates counting the number of fluorescent puncta in specific locations of individual cells and also enables estimation of the number of cells by detecting the labeled nuclei. The method is here used for counting the AM1-43 labeled fluorescent puncta in human SH-SY5Y neuroblastoma cells induced to differentiate with all-trans retinoic acid (RA), and further stimulated with high potassium (K+) containing solution. For the human brain, in vitro models that accurately represent what occurs in vivo are lacking. Organotypic models may be the closest parallel to human brain tissue outside of a live patient. However, this model has been limited primarily to rodent-derived tissue. Remote estimation of blood pulse pressure via temporal tracking of reflected secondary speckles pattern

2011

We present a novel technique for remote noncontact blood pulse pressure measurement. It is based on tracking both temporal and amplitude changes of reflected secondary speckle produced in human skin when illuminated by a laser beam. The implemented technique extracts the difference between the systolic and the diastolic blood pressure. Experimental results are presented showing good agreement when compared with conventional measurement methods.

Abstract The fundamental flexural guided wave (FFGW), as modeled, for example, by the A0 Lamb mode, is a clinically useful indicator of cortical bone thickness.
