Humour as a symptom of research trends in translation studies
2017
This article is an overview of translation studies applied to the case of humour, divided into four parts, plus an extensive bibliography. The first part goes over humour translation as a relevant object of research and why it is worthy of more academic attention. Humour translation should not be dealt with or looked upon as a strange body within translation studies. Part two is an overview of key contributions to the field, from Spain and elsewhere, covering a considerable number of authors and theories. Part three focuses on promising areas of interest for researchers and illustrates how audiovisual translation is a good instance of dynamism within the field, connecting all this to the ri…
Una instantánea movida de la investigación en procesos de traducción
2014
This article offers an overview of some advances in cognitive and psycholinguistic approaches to translation and interpreting process research between 2006 and 2013, in order to provide context to the contributions to this volume. It provides some figures on publications and initiatives and then focuses on competence and expertise; writing; mental load and linguistic complexity; advances in research methods; revision and metacognition; cognition beyond conscious, rational thought; and recontextualized empirical research. The article closes with some notes on the overall tendencies in the area, in the sample of contributions, and in publishing.
The history of translation and of the theory of translation in the context of translation studies
2013
In the present contribution to the History of Translation we consider critically the emergence and integration of Translation Studies as an academic discipline and the role of both Translation History and Translation Historiography. An analysis of what this discipline was before its acceptance into academia and proposals for what its role should be within a humanistic oriented curriculum for future professionals derives from the reception, clearly unsatisfactory, of its status as academic knowledge. Given the specificity of the Latin American situation (in no other region of the world translation has played a greater identitary role), we have added an appendix on the History of Translation …
Hierarchical imaging and computational analysis of three-dimensional vascular network architecture in the entire postnatal and adult mouse brain
2021
The formation of new blood vessels and the establishment of vascular networks are crucial during brain development, in the adult healthy brain, as well as in various diseases of the central nervous system. Here, we describe a step-by-step protocol for our recently developed method that enables hierarchical imaging and computational analysis of vascular networks in postnatal and adult mouse brains. The different stages of the procedure include resin-based vascular corrosion casting, scanning electron microscopy, synchrotron radiation and desktop microcomputed tomography imaging, and computational network analysis. Combining these methods enables detailed visualization and quantification of t…
THE SCUOLA OFFICINA MECCANICA IN VILLAGGIO MONTE DEGLI ULIVI IN RIESI. READING AND ANALYSIS THROUGH SURVEYING.
2017
This research analyses in depth the project of one of the most representative work of the Modern Architectural Movement in Sicily – the Scuola Officina Meccanica, located in Villaggio Monte degli Ulivi, in Riesi (CL), designed by the architect Leonardo Ricci between 1962 and 1968. The main objective is to contribute to the conservation of the architectural work through its analysis and study for a careful and conscious restoration. The research methodology aimed to retrace the compositional and geometric principles that defined the design process and its unique configuration.
Methodological findings in studies on adoptive families
2014
The issue of adoptive families is the object of interest for many researchers, especially outside Polish borders. A critical analysis of previous studies on adoption shows that the scientific value of many of the existing studies raises doubts. The reasons of this are more or less significant methodological weaknesses, which significantly reduce their scientific value. Researchers often focus on the study of individuals in the adoptive family, e.g. mothers only, adopted children only or selected types of relationships within the family e.g. the mother – child relation. There is a little amount of studies on family systems. It seems worthy to note that numerous studies are conducted in the c…
Untargeted metabolomics of rind essential oils allowed to differentiate two closely related clementine varieties
2021
[EN] Chemical characterization of clementine varieties (Citrus clementina Hort. ex Tan.) essential oils (EO) can lead to variety identification and valorization of their potential use in food and aroma industries. The goal of this study was the chemometric discrimination between two very closely related and morphologically identical clementine varieties, Clemenules (NL) and Clemenpons (PO), based on their rind EO, to identify the differential volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and to determine their antioxidant capacity. EO rind volatile profile was determined by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry in Citrus fruit at different ripening stages grown two independent years in two di…

Metodologiâ arheologičeskih issledovanij mogilʹnikov v Polʹše
2021
Archeology, by being a science, has its own research problems. It tries to analyze them using an appropriate methodology. Archeology deals with discovering the human past, likewise the environment, where people live, work and die. We cannot say also, that this is a science, which discovers only objects, that are used by people, while it discovers also an archaeological context, i.e. the place where those objects had been deposited. At each archeological site researcher has to consider an area under the prism of three landscapes: the first one is a natural landscape, the second is settlement one, and the third is ceremonial one. The last landscape is associated mostly with the least studied …
Open science as a better gatekeeper for science and society: a perspective from neurolaw
2018
Results from cognitive neuroscience have been cited as evidence in courtrooms around the world, and their admissibility has been a challenge for the legal system. Unfortunately, the recent reproducibility crisis in cognitive neuroscience, showing that the published studies in cognitive neuroscience may not be as trustworthy as expected, has made the situation worse. Here we analysed how the irreproducible results in cognitive neuroscience literature could compromise the standards for admissibility of scientific evidence, and pointed out how the open science movement may help to alleviate these problems. We conclude that open science not only benefits the scientific community but also the le…
