Resilience and Stress Level Differences Across Different Age Groups During the Covid-19 Pandemic
2022
Investigating the Structural Properties of an IT-Enabled Resource
2019
The synergistic combination and integration of information technology (IT) and other complementary organizational resources to form IT-enabled resources, has long been identified as one means through which organizations can derive benefits from IT. However, research shows that the integration required to form IT-enabled resources from which organizations derive benefits, also constrains the renewal and redeployment of the IT-enabled resources to address new strategic imperatives. Thus, there are several calls for further research on how organizations can sustain the derivation of benefits from IT especially in dynamic environments. This study responds to such calls. Specifically, it draws o…
Engineering students' engagement with resources in an online learning environment
2018
International audience; This study explores engineering students' interactions with different resources in an online learning environment. The constituent resources of this environment involve MyMathLab which is an online interactive system for practicing mathematics, the tutorial videos, and the textbook. We conducted a qualitative case study to observe a small group of undergraduate engineering students interacting with the resources in a Calculus course. Employing the documentational approach to didactics, we identified several techniques while participants used resources to practice mathematics in MyMathLab environment. We discuss the pragmatic and epistemic value of the identified tech…
STUDENTS’ PERSPECTIVES ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF MUSICAL ACTIVITIES IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION
2018
Aim. The aim of the study is to find out students’ perspectives on the necessity, readiness and disturbing factors of implementing musical activities in preschool. The theoretical part of the paper describes the particularity of preschool teachers’ work, the children’s interest in musical activities, and the benefits of implementing musical activities in preschool.
Method. The empirical study involved 168 students (N=168), of which 132 students (N=132) are already working as preschool teachers in parallel with their study at the university. The study identified three questions: why do preschool teachers use musical activities? What factors prevent a preschool teacher from using music…
Reverse Catmull-Clark Subdivision
2006
Reverse subdivision consists in constructing a coarse mesh of a model from a finer mesh of this same model. In this paper, we give formulas for reverse Catmull-Clark subdivision. These formulas allow the constructing of a coarse mesh for almost all meshes. The condition for being able to apply these formulas is that the mesh to be reversed must be generated by the subdivision of a coarse mesh. Except for this condition, the mesh can be arbitrary. Vertices can be regular or extraordinary and the mesh itself can be arbitrary (triangular, quadrilateral…).
Titanocene Selenide Sulfides Revisited: Formation, Stabilities, and NMR Spectroscopic Properties
2019
[TiCp2S5] (phase A), [TiCp2Se5] (phase F), and five solid solutions of mixed titanocene selenide sulfides [TiCp2SexS5−x] (Cp = C5H5−) with the initial Se:S ranging from 1:4 to 4:1 (phases B–E) were prepared by reduction of elemental sulfur or selenium or their mixtures by lithium triethylhydridoborate in thf followed by the treatment with titanocene dichloride [TiCp2Cl2]. Their 77Se and 13C NMR spectra were recorded from the CS2 solution. The definite assignment of the 77Se NMR spectra was based on the PBE0/def2-TZVPP calculations of the 77Se chemical shifts and is supported by 13C NMR spectra of the samples. The following complexes in varying ratios were identified in the CS2 solutions of …
Dealing with a small amount of data : developing Finnish sentiment analysis
2022
Sentiment analysis has been more and more prominently visible among all natural language processing tasks. Sentiment analysis entails information extraction of opinions, emotions, and sentiments. In this paper, we aim to develop and test language models for low-resource language Finnish. We use the term “low-resource” to describe a language lacking in available resources for language modeling, especially annotated data. We investigate four models: the state-of-the-art FinBERT [1], and competitive alternative BERT models Finnish ConvBERT [2], Finnish Electra [3], and Finnish RoBERTa [4]. Having a comparative framework of multiple BERT variations is connected to our use of additional methods …
1H NMR Urinary Metabolomic Analysis in Older Adults after Hip Fracture Surgery May Provide Valuable Information for Patient Profiling : A Preliminary…
2022
In these times of precision and personalized medicine, profiling patients to identify their needs is crucial to providing the best and most cost-effective treatment. In this study, we used urine metabolomics to explore the characterization of older adults with hip fractures and to explore the forecasting of patient outcomes. Overnight urine specimens were collected from 33 patients (mean age 80 ± 8 years) after hip fracture surgery during their stay at a rehabilitation hospital. The specimens were analyzed with 1H NMR spectroscopy. We performed a metabolomics study regarding assessments of frailty status, Functional Independence Measure (FIM), and Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB). …
Copper-hydride nanoclusters with enhanced stability by N-heterocyclic carbenes
2021
AbstractCopper-hydrides have been intensively studied for a long time due to their utilization in a variety of technologically important chemical transformations. Nevertheless, poor stability of the species severely hinders its isolation, storage and operation, which is worse for nano-sized ones. We report here an unprecedented strategy to access to ultrastable copper-hydride nanoclusters (NCs), namely, using bidentate N-heterocyclic carbenes as stabilizing ligands in addition to thiolates. In this work, a simple synthetic protocol was developed to synthesize the first large copper-hydride nanoclusters (NCs) stabilized by N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs). The NC, with the formula of Cu31(RS)2…
Synchronizing Two Superconducting Qubits through a Dissipating Resonator
2021
A system consisting of two qubits and a resonator is considered in the presence of different sources of noise, bringing to light the possibility of making the two qubits evolve in a synchronized way. A direct qubit–qubit interaction turns out to be a crucial ingredient, as well as the dissipation processes involving the resonator. The detrimental role of the local dephasing of the qubits is also taken into account.
