High-precision measurement of the mass difference between 102Pd and 102Ru

Abstract The Q-value for the neutrinoless double electron capture on 102Pd, Qϵϵ(102Pd), is determined as the atomic mass difference between 102Pd and 102Ru. A precise measurement of the Qϵϵ(102Pd) at the SHIPTRAP Penning trap showed a more than 10σ deviation to the adopted Atomic Mass Evaluation (AME) value. The reliability of the SHIPTRAP measurement was challenged because the AME value was based on numerous experiments including β and electron capture decays and very precise (n, γ) data, all agreeing with each other. High yield neutron generator based on a high-current gasdynamic electron cyclotron resonance ion source

In present paper, an approach for high yield compact D-D neutron generator based on a high current gasdynamic electron cyclotron resonance ion source is suggested. Results on dense pulsed deuteron beam production with current up to 500 mA and current density up to 750 mA/cm2 are demonstrated. Neutron yield from D2O and TiD2 targets was measured in case of its bombardment by pulsed 300 mA Dþ beam with 45 keV energy. Neutron yield density at target surface of 109 s 1 cm2 was detected with a system of two 3 He proportional counters. TDDFT Analysis of Optical Properties of Thiol Monolayer-Protected Gold and Intermetallic Silver–Gold Au144(SR)60 and Au84Ag60(SR)60 Clusters

The optical absorption spectra of atomistic model structures for experimentally isolated all-gold Au144(SR)60 and intermetallic Au84Ag60(SR)60 clusters are systematically analyzed from linear-response time-dependent density functional theory (LR-TDDFT) and time-dependent density functional perturbation theory (TD-DFPT) calculations. The computed spectra, utilizing the atomistic model for Au144(SR)60 published by us in 2009, reproduce closely the experimental observations for corresponding isolated compounds, reported previously by Kumara and Dass in 2011. Curvelet-based method for orientation estimation of particles from optical images

A method based on the curvelet transform is introduced to estimate the orientation distribution from two-dimensional images of small anisotropic particles. Orientation of fibers in paper is considered as a particular application of the method. Theoretical aspects of the suitability of this method are discussed and its efficiency is demonstrated with simulated and real images of fibrous systems. The present study examined moral distress among Finnish social workers and the role of perceived resource insufficiencies in explaining it. The aim was to shed light on this understudied phenomenon in the field of social welfare. The study focused on work-related moral distress, defined as impaired wellbeing that is connected to the continual inability to implement actions that one considers morally appropriate. The survey data were collected with an electronic questionnaire between the years 2011 and 2012. This article examines the employment and placement in the working life of Finnish higher education graduates (i.e. graduates from universities and polytechnics), focusing on gender equality. It reports a study on gender segregation in higher education and working life, considered in relation to Nordic gender equality policies. The data were gathered via a questionnaire administered to graduates in business and administration (n = 1067) and in technology (n = 1087), three years after their graduation.
