Control Flow Error Checking with ISIS

The Interleaved Signature Instruction Stream (ISIS) is a signature embedding technique that allows signatures to co-exist with the main processor instruction stream with a minimal impact on processor performance, without sacrificing error detection coverage or latency. While ISIS incorporate some novel error detection mechanisms to assess the integrity of the program executed by the main processor, the limited number of bits available in the signature control word question if the detection mechanisms are effective detecting errors in the program execution flow. This thesis deals with the optical properties of small metal torii. A method of resolution of the equation of Laplace in toroidal coordinates is introduced and the radiative properties of the metal toric nanoparticules are studied within the electrostatic framework. The study on the eigenmodes spatial distribution suggests that metal nanotorus can carry a non-zero magnetic dipole moment at optical frequencies. Analytical expressions for the extinction and scattering cross sections of the torus are also found and compared with numerical simulations and experimental results obtained with collaborations. Larvae homozygous for the recessive lethal allele without children(rgl) (woc(rgl)) fail to pupariate. Application of exogenous 20-hydroxyecdysone elicits puparium formation and pupation. Ecdysteroid titer measurements on mutant larvae show an endocrine deficiency in the brain-ring gland complex, which normally synthesizes ecdysone, resulting in a failure of the larvae to achieve a threshold whole body hormone titer necessary for molting. Ultrastructural investigation revealed extensive degeneration of the prothoracic cells of the ring gland in older larvae. The aristaless (Arx) gene: one gene for many "interneuronopathies".

The ARX (Aristaless-related (X-linked) homeobox) gene is not only present in arthropods and their ancestors, but also in vertebrates including humans (ARX orthologs). The gene is composed of 5 coding exons and it is expressed predominantly in foetal and adult brain and skeletal muscle. In this review we report on our experience and review the existing literature on the genotype and phenotype heterogeneity associated with ARX abnormalities in humans ranging from severe neuronal migration defects (e.g., lissencephaly), to mild forms of X-linked mental retardation without apparent brain abnormalities. A systematic review of maternal smoking during pregnancy and fetal measurements with meta-analysis

Maternal smoking during pregnancy is linked to reduced birth weight but the gestation at onset of this relationship is not certain. We present a systematic review of the literature describing associations between maternal smoking during pregnancy and ultrasound measurements of fetal size, together with an accompanying meta-analysis. Studies were selected from electronic databases (OVID, EMBASE and Google Scholar) that examined associations between maternal smoking or smoke exposure and antenatal fetal ultrasound measurements. Abstract A method for the prediction of the acoustics of a propeller in the flow-field of a wing is presented. The method is used to study the noise generated by the unsteady loading induced on the propeller as it passes through the wing flow-field. Both the aerodynamic and acoustic methods are previously proven techniques, the aerodynamic method being based on a combination of free wake analysis and a three-dimensional boundary element method, while the acoustic calculation is a full-surface, moving medium form of the Ffowcs Williams–Hawkings equation. Optimization of Osmotic Desalination Plants for Water Supply Networks

Water scarcity and the poor quality of water resources are leading to a wider diffusion of desalination plants using the Reverse Osmosis (RO) process. Unfortunately, the cost of a cubic meter of fresh water produced by an RO plants is still high and many efforts are in progress to increase the efficiency of the membranes used in osmotic plants and to limit the energy required by the process.
