Towards a Comprehension of University Dropout in Catalonia: the Case of Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona

The article presents the results of a research that aims to unfold the reasons behind students’ dropout at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). Data is analyzed, and interviews and focus groups with students who have dropout, study degree’s coordinators and institutional authorities are carried out. Results indicate that part of the abandonment taking place is voluntary, natural and even necessary, when the student does not enter the desired option or discovers that the studies do not fi t with their vocational interests, but it also represents a misalignment between the academic offer and the students’ capabilities, performance and motivation.
A note on higher order Melnikov functions

We present several classes of planar polynomial Hamilton systems and their polynomial perturbations leading to vanishing of the first Melnikov integral. We discuss the form of higher order Melnikov integrals. In particular, we present new examples where the second order Melnikov integral is not an Abelian integral.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the role of magnetic resonance (MR) pyelography in patients affected by hydronephrosis due to ureteric stones, in order to identify a pyonephrotic condition.In the last 3 years, 315 patients, who had originally been investigated by ultrasonography, were evaluated with MR pyelography in order to define the etiology of obstruction. The scientific evidence concerning prosthodontic care for the shortened dental arch (SDA) is sparse. This randomized multicenter study aimed to compare two common treatment options: removable partial dental prostheses (RPDPs) for molar replacement vs. no replacement (SDA). One of the hypotheses was that the follow-up treatment differs between patients with RPDPs and patients with SDAs during the 5-year follow-up period. The study was conducted with 104 mothers (average age 32.5 years, SD 6.1) of preterm infants (very and moderately preterm but still healthy) to monitor the perceived maternal role competence from the time of hospitalisation to post-discharge, in order to define an intervention program to support mothers during this transition. A targeted Q-Sort tool (Maternal Competence Q-Sort in preterm birth) was applied at two different times as a self-observation tool for parenting competence in neonatology. To report the incidence and the major risk factors (RFs) associated with preterm birth (PTB), combining both maternal RFs and cervical length (CL), and to understand if cervical length measurement is really useful in all the patients.The study population consisted of 2048 women admitted to the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University Hospital of Messina, over a 2-year period. In the Remember-Know paradigm whether a Know response is defined as a high-confidence state of certainty or a low-confidence state based on familiarity varies across researchers and can influence participants' responses. The current experiment was designed to explore differences between the states of Know and Familiar. Participants studied others' justification statements to "Know" recognition decisions and separated them into two types.
