Nell’articolo si analizzano le cause, i protagonisti, i simboli e gli slogan delle quattro rivolte scoppiate a Palermo tra il 1339 e il 1351, la repressione violenta della “dissidenza armata” e le strategie di ricomposizione Sullo sfondo dello scontro militare, ma anche ideologico, tra Aragonesi e Angioini, nella Sicilia del Trecento le rivolte furono spesso scatenate dalla penuria di grano, ma ebbero alla base cause politiche ben più complesse. Modern historiography has studied the influence of messianic and millennialist ideas in the Crown of Aragon extensively and, more particularly, how they were linked to the Aragonese monarchy. To date, research in the field of art history has mainly considered royal iconography from a different point of view: through coronation, historical or dynastic images. Scomparso il 31 maggio 1410 Martino l’Umano senza discendenti legittimi diretti, si pose il problema di eleggere un nuovo sovrano per la Corona d’Aragona. Il numero inizialmente cospicuo di candidati al trono si ridusse a due: l’infante di Castiglia Ferdinando di Trastámara e il conte Jaume de Urgell, in linea teorica il pretendente più accreditato. Between 7 and 16 July 1647 a popular revolt, led by a young fishmonger, Masaniello, shook the city of Naples. The killing of Masaniello, however, did not lead to the end of the riots. On the contrary, the revolt involved the entire kingdom of Naples, radicalized in an anti-Spanish sense and resulted in the proclamation of the Republic and the call of a French prince, the Duke of Guisa. On these events, and especially on the fracture that permanently opposed people and nobles, historiography has long debated. This paper discusses the binomial hybris and revolution. In particular, the question of whether the excessive dominants’ arrogance, who have too much both in material and symbolic terms, is sufficient to explain the deflagration of an insurgency and the interruption of a legal order. The question will be addressed by interweaving the reflections of authors who have discussed this topic with a material collected by the author through a legal-political ethnography conducted in Chile during the revolt that broke out in October 2019 and led to a new constituent phase. In linea con quanto appena esposto, il presente saggio si pone l’esclusivo obiettivo di fotografare lo stato di transizione dei vari Paesi arabi, proponendo in prima battuta una ricostruzione diacronica degli eventi (a partire dal 2010) e secondariamente analizzando (seppur per sommi capi) quali siano stati (o meglio quali non siano stati) i cambiamenti prodotti dalle presunte “rivoluzioni arabe”. Come parametro relativo alla percentuale del cambiamento ottenuto dalle “primavere arabe” valuteremo il ruolo oggidì ricoperto dalle forze di opposizione ai regimi, le stesse che hanno dato il via alla protesta, all’interno dei sistemi di potere locali. I tre saggi che compongono questo libro si propongono di offrire approcci nuovi alla storia della Sicilia, analizzandola in un periodo di crisi ma proprio per questo ricco di trasformazioni, quale quello dei decenni centrali del ’600: la politica fiscale e finanziaria (Antonino Giuffrida), l’uso del patronage ecclesiastico (Fabrizio D’Avenia), la gestione delle rivolta del 1647 (Daniele Palermo). Si tratta di tre aspetti, tra loro correlati, del particolare rapporto tra la corte di Madrid e le istituzioni del Regno di Sicilia, ma che risentono e influenzano allo stesso tempo le dinamiche delle relazioni con le altre province del più ampio “sistema imperiale” spagnolo.
