Peaks of in situ N2O emissions are influenced by N2O producing and reducing microbial communities across arable soils

International audience; Introduction Agriculture is the main source of terrestrial N2O emissions, a potent greenhouse gas and the main cause of ozone depletion ((Hu et al., 2015). The reduction of N2O into N2 by microorganisms carrying the nitrous oxide reductase gene (nosZ) is the only known biological process eliminating this greenhouse gas. Recent studies showed that a previously unknown clade of N2O-reducers (nosZII) was related to the potential capacity of the soil to act as a N2O sink (see Hallin et al., 2017 and references therein). Abstract Which bacterial taxonomic groups can be used in monitoring saline water methanol-utilizing denitrification and whether nitrate is transformed into N2 in the process are unclear. Therefore, methylotrophic bacterial communities of two efficiently functioning (nitrate/nitrite reduction was 63–96 %) tropical and cool seawater reactors at a public aquarium were investigated with clone library analysis and 454 pyrosequencing of the 16S rRNA genes. Characterization of sulfhydryl oxidase from Aspergillus tubingensis

Background Despite of the presence of sulfhydryl oxidases (SOXs) in the secretomes of industrially relevant organisms and their many potential applications, only few of these enzymes have been biochemically characterized. In addition, basic functions of most of the SOX enzymes reported so far are not fully understood. In particular, the physiological role of secreted fungal SOXs is unclear. AbstractConjugated linoleic acids (CLA) have recently been recognized to reduce body fat and plasma lipids in some animals. This study demonstrated that the steatosis accompanying the fat loss induced by trans-10,cis-12-C18:2 (CLA2) and not cis-9,trans-11-C18:2 (CLA1) isomer in C57BL/6j mice was not due to an alteration of the liver lipoprotein production that was even increased. The 3-fold decrease in plasma triacylglycerol contents and the induction of mRNA expression of low-density lipoprotein receptors concomitantly observed in CLA2-fed mice suggested an increase in the lipoprotein clearance at the level of the liver itself.
