This study addresses intercultural empathy as a concept, and if or how it might be present among conflicting parties, specifically between Palestinian and Israeli individuals. Since there are many definitions of the word “empathy,” the researcher examines previous definitions of this term, how it relates to intercultural empathy, and then offers a singular definition for the purpose of this study. Muuttuvan ilmastopolitiikan myötä syntyy uusia velvoitteita kansainvälisen, kansallisen, maakunnallisen ja kunnallisen tason ilmastopolitiikkaan. Tässä pro gradu -tutkielmassa selvitettiin uusimpiin voimassa oleviin ja tulossa oleviin ilmastosopimuksiin, strategioihin ja ohjeistuksiin maakunnallisen, ja erityisesti Keski-Suomen ilmastostrategian ja sen keinovalikoiman kehittämisen näkökulmasta. Lisäksi tarkasteltiin Keski-Suomen kasvihuonekaasupäästömäärien kehittymistä vuosista 2004 ja 2006 vuoteen 2014 sekä vuoden 2020 ennusteita. Tarkastelut tehtiin sektorikohtaisesti. In this chapter, Jussi Backman approaches Hannah Arendt’s readings of ancient philosophy by setting out from her perspective on the intellectual, political, and moral crisis characterizing Western societies in the twentieth century, a crisis to which the rise of totalitarianism bears witness. To Arendt, the political catastrophes haunting the twentieth century have roots in a tradition of political philosophy reaching back to the Greek beginnings of philosophy. The kinetics of the polymerization of methyl methacrylate initiated by lithium alkyls (tert-butyllithium or ethyl α-lithiobutyrate) was investigated in the presence of aluminium alkyls (triethylaluminium or triisobutylaluminium) in toluene at −78°C. The rate of polymerization decreases considerably once the living dimer is formed. This suggests that the aluminate end-group coordinates with the penultimate ester group of the polymer chain, thus decreasing reactivity. The results are at variance with an activated monomer mechanism.

Raman spectroscopy and crystal-field split rotational states of photoproducts CO and H2 after dissociation of formaldehyde in solid argon

Raman signal is monitored after 248 nm photodissociation of formaldehyde in solid Ar at temperatures of 9–30 K. Rotational transitions J = 2 ← 0 for para-H2 fragments and J = 3 ← 1 for ortho-H2 are observed as sharp peaks at 347.2 cm−1 and 578.3 cm−1, respectively, which both are accompanied by a broader shoulder band that shows a split structure. The rovibrational spectrum of CO fragments has transitions at 2136.5 cm−1, 2138.3 cm−1, 2139.9 cm−1, and 2149 cm−1. To explain the observations, we performed adiabatic rotational potential calculations to simulate the Raman spectrum.
